"Smart middle click" used to fix this problem, I can't find it on the mozilla addon site but I did find this.

Maybe I'll unpack it and see if I can get it working on modern Firefox later.

yeah it sucks when you can only find downloads in a nonfree encoding! But with a 320kbps bitrate, you should be able to transcode to ogg without audible degradation.
