Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or Salt /g/?
Ansible if you want something minimal, but want it rolled out asap. Pretty good on resumes too.
Puppet if you need complex shit and want to look for a job.
Salt and Chef are memes.
No matter how many times I read the Puppet or Chef websites I still don't get exactly what they're used for. I mean I have a general idea, but if anyone would be kind enough to explain what they do in normal words that would be appreciated. It's just strange that none of them answer the question "Why do I need this, why would I use this?" directly, they instantly go into random details.
>>57263277
from what I understand they're programs that allow you to configure vast fleets of computers, update/maintain/push configs to them, or designate subsets of the groups of the computers to install certain programs to a certain group, etc. Of course you can use them to install a program on all the computers too.
something like Active Directory on Steroids (and free as in freedom)
Hey /g/ is possible to combine a egpu with a monitor? Like having a slot manufactured inside the monitor where you can put a gpu in?
>>57263065
Duct tape egpu on the rear of the monitor. Done.
>>57263080
Yea I understand how easy it would be to diy it, but a product like this would be cool
It would be huge and impractical. Probably hard to work on and poor airflow as well.
You have to fit all the components in a typical midtower or itx case into an all-in-one monitor. Damn thing would look like the old school tube monitors.

SOMEONE STOP THAT MAN
The internet should adopt light text on dark background as a new default. The only reason black on white is default is because it mimics paper.
This has two main advantages:
1. Reduced power consumption, both of the screen itself and of surrounding illumination needing to "match" the screen
2. Less eyestrain
I don't disagree with that
Posting on my OLED phone. Having dark theme on everything looks fucking gorgeous.
>1. Reduced power consumption, both of the screen itself and of surrounding illumination needing to "match" the screen
No, that's not how it works. LCDs use pixels that when "Off" are "white" in color because they allow the backlight to come through completely without blockage - when LCD pixels are "On" and displaying pure black they are using the most amount of power to do so hence your entire concept is BLOWN THE FUCK OUT, son. Measure power consumption on an LCD monitor of any kind when the display is "white" and when it's "black" - the black mode will use more power to get the job done because you're turning on every LCD pixel fully.
If the world was powered by OLED displays then yes, black is totally off and would save power, but your ignorance in how LCD technology works is breathtaking in it's scope.
>2. Less eyestrain
Been staring at computer displays, phone displays, TVs of all kinds, and many other display devices for decades, never had issues with any kind of eye strain. What you're saying is you're a punk bitch whiny little bastard - an ignorant one at that - and you just can't be happy till you've expressed your opinion someplace where you feel it matters.
You are mistaken, and you're excused.
