>2016
>no SSD
>base model: $3000+
>is not mobile, but has legacy(old) mobile GPU (9x0M)
The specs call them "hybrid" drives, so while they may not be SSDs, they obviously have some NAND.
Also, $1500-2000 goes to the screen, hence the base price of $3k.
>>57261355
I know what a hybrid drive is. it's the poor man's alternative to proper SSD.
>pay $4000
>can't get SSD
>can't upgrade anything yourself
wew great
>>57261360
Considering the screen is ~50-70% of the cost, most people aren't going to be buying it for it's sepcs. It's not meant to be a computing powerhouse.
When will we be getting professionally looking UIs again?
>>57259764
Yes, it's Unity.
>>57259764
Windows Server full GUI terminals exist anon.
there is 0 need for a fully fuctional PC in most professional cases
most mini pc's can do anything in most offices
and its fully professional.
unless you works with 3d modeling or game making or something supper intensive .
windows NT was a local PC OS when internet was just a baby
now connections are fast enough to have termainals runing at real world speeds with out the need for a fully decked out PC
this is why all windows severs have a desktop VM and logon all ready
client terminal's don't need a HDD they are networked HDD and cloud based now.
what, do you just mean 90s grey/beige office aesthetic? you could have that right now.
So /g/, I haven't been keeping up with gpu technology for a while, but it seems like it's stagnated a bit. I've looked into things myself, and I think I have my answer, but I figured I'd see if you guys have any thoughts on it since you guys probably know better than I do atm.
So, here's the thing. If I'm running 2x AMD 7870s, is there anything worth upgrading to that doesn't cost a fortune? So far I haven't found anything better that isn't $300-400+.
Don't care if it's AMD or nVidia.
current cards are all over the place and problems with the current gen are ripe with problems for both nvidia and AMD
AMD fixed the PCI-E problem but driver issues remaining with little/no scalably and limited OC on some models and no high end models as of october 27th 8:53pm NZST
Nvidia has problems with heat and noise and no async and varies driver problems that have been reported as braking windows with some versions of windows 10
Its a mess but dispite this there as been no real show stoppers in recent months.
>>57259581
So essentially between lackluster performance gains and firmware issues, I'd probably be best not upgrading atm?
>>57259658
not exactly the 10 series is a 40% performance jump from the 9 series with relative heat and power consumption, IMO wait for 1080 ti buy 1080

Stallman warned us against these fascists (look up on stallman.org's notes section), now it's too late. A free software friendly, democratically-elected government has been forcefully replace by an extremist right-wing, corporate-bootlicker and illegitimate government. The rabid right insists it wasn't a coup d'état, but it's been obvious since day one that it is, and this kind of news make it even more evident.
Pra você fascistinha que bateu panela, continue se convencendo de que não foi golpe, filha da puta!
Stallman is a fucking idiot.
His endorsement of communism should be proof enough of how far up his own ass he is when it comes to politics.
>free software works alright
>therefore free everything will work alright
I'd love to see a fat fuck like Stalin sent to soviet-era Russia, he wouldn't survive 5 minutes without junk food and hentai.
Vai dar o cu, esquerdista de bosta.
maybe they'll gas all of you commie faggots again since apparently one military dictatorship wasn't enough
>corporate bootlicker
it's no different from the "free software" ecosystem that's controlled by the likes of red hat and canonical other than the price tag

If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

First of all, I've done my research and spend hours trying to find that. Isn't there any app for Android that locks your phone for say 10 min (a break if you will) est every hour of use or anything ?

Meh, just turn it off. Waiting for it to turn on is a pain so you're not likely to do it before time is up.

Why the fuck aren't eGPU/eGFX units common place yet?
I remember reading about these things when ExpressCard first came out and everyone thought they'd be everywhere what with laptops out selling desktops while PC gaming grew in popularity. It's been 10 years, the bandwidth available on laptops has increased 15x since thunderbolt/usb3.21232q455243qe came out and the only commercial example I've seen is a dead kickstarter and some razer or alienware shit.
normies don't need them
>>57270241
Because video games are for kids and if you do any real work that requires powerful hardware, you already have a desktop for that
What's the incentive to make more of these? They're not needed for most people and desktops are usually better for those who need this amount of graphics power.
Alright /g/entoomen, what's the best desktop environment that's lightweight (or at the very least performs well) but also good looking/minimal and full featured?
I'm tired of running dwm/awesome/openbox and managing the fifty million extra packages to provide hot plugging storage, GTK themes, icon sets, etc., etc.

Maybe it's just because I don't have enough time to play around with more than a few DE's, but is there any simple way to unfuck the "clutter" in xfce's taskbar?
>no physical function keys
>no physical escape key
>no USB 2/3, HDMI and SD card slots
>slower cpu and ram if you don't want the touch bar
>smaller battery if you do want the touch bar (?)

Personally it be something around the lines of experience, so many people wait to start their programming in college, noticing that they were never up for the task and just bail. So just try to learn, don't try to rush, never wait to start
