hey guys, i've been having a problem with stabbing calf pain from running for years. it started when i was 13 when i started running track and field. after a few weeks of practice i developed this stabbing pain in my calves that would run down to above my ankles, on the sides of my legs too. no matter how much stretching i did it never went away until i quit the team a year later.
fast farward 7 years. i'm getting back into shape and just like last time, after about 3-4 weeks of training i got that same debilitating, stabbing, sharp pain in my calves. i've gone to the doctor and all he says is to stretch and ice it but that doesn't do jack shit. i got back from running a mile half an hour ago and i can't even stand up. anybody have an idea what's going on with me? its been years and i just want help.
TLDR; have a seemingly dormant condition where every time i start getting into shape i get stabbing pain all over my calves thats seemingly not cure by anything

body dimensions:
6'4"
204 pounds

try an overhaul on your running form? not to say you have bad form, but stabbing calf pain aint normal
>>

I'm 6'4" 215 lbs. Back in my military days when I was running a lot, I'd get those pains when doing 4+ miles a day, but after about 2 weeks or so, it disappeared. I also pronate inward. After learning how to run on the balls of my feet and doing a fuck ton of stretching, it went away. I'd advise getting some electrolytes in you as well, maybe some watered-down gatorade.

Has anyone on here had to do physical rehabilitation? I had a hemorrhagic stroke about two years ago which paralysed the right side of my body. My arm is fine now but my leg is still pretty weak. I can walk on it, but I need to wear a brace because I still have foot drop, I can't lift my foot up as my leg swings forward.

I've been to physical therapists many times, but I'm not really making any progress with them. They seem to just try and teach compensation techniques without any real strategy for how to actually get better in the long term. Maybe there are good ones out there but I can't seem to find any that actually give me any hope for realistically getting better.

I know I'm supposed to try and get better on my own but it's really hard to even know where to start. I literally cannot spin my ankle around. If I tried to walk normally my toes would drag and I would fall over, so I have to swing my leg up higher than normal. My adductor muscles on my right side are sore almost all the time, and I'm pretty sure it's because it's compensating for various anterior muscles.

I have exercises that I do for rehabilitation in my own time, mostly walking, squats, leg presses, but I've just been making little to no progress and I'm worried I'm just going. I've got an electrical stimulation device but it's hard to know if I'm ever using it correctly since it can tense my foot muscles up but doesn't seem to do much for the rest of the leg muscles.

Anyways, anyone else been through this sort of thing?

Damn anon that's some heavy stuff, I can barely even relate. I'm no doc and idk if you've tried this but I remember a method used for phantom limbs to incite 'feeling' in pic related. The idea is that it tricks the brain into thinking it's your other limb without you consciously making the decision. My knowledge on the matter is probably worth fuck all but I hope you find the answer your looking for brah.

Which routine do you think is better?

Routine A: full body, 2x per week, 3x5-7

Routine B: full body, 4x per week, 1x1-2RM or 1xAMRAP

I've been doing A for sometime just started doing B today. I think greater frequency+intensity > more sets

But I bet this board is 90% manlets. I'm 6'4" myself, and I don't think less of people under 6', /fit/ is just pathetic. Seriously I'd rather be shorter:

>Cars are all a tight squeeze, can't even think about owning a small race car
>Feet stick off the bed an inch or two
>Got dumped by a girl I really wanted to go further with because she didn't like my fat 9 inch cock
>thighs are not 90 degrees when sitting in most chairs

The list goes on. Being tall is not that great.

>No. That's not what I'm suggesting at all. You can eat as many carbs as you want as long as they're from 100% REAL FOOD(tm). Eat as many tomatoes, potatos, corn, green beans, carrots, apples, oranges, bananas as you want as long as they look like they were alive at some point in the last week.

Hoping this guy comes back. So whats your reasoning behind low carb? To control insulin? Also why is it ok to eat potatos but not oats or brown rice or black beans etc?

This is the original thread, not sure how to link it.

Most lchf diets seem to avoid any starchy carbs at all. Im interested in why this guy prescibes no oats or rice but doesnt seem to mind potatos.

What is the best way to recover after long runs?

Planning on doing ~50mi/week; with 10 mi/day for 5 days and 2 rest days in the middle. But I want to recover faster on some days, where I feel like my quads or calves are tight esp when I do hills.

What works best for you guys
