Hi /fa/, I really don't post this to offend or come off as a snobby person but I had a question about receiving gifts (specifically clothing). How do you respond when you receive something you don't like?...

I realize that it's the thought that counts and I am always grateful for the effort and appreciate gift. However, when I give gifts I always put a lot of thought into them and do extensive research on what the person likes and how I can gift them something that at worst would receive a neutral response.

I am specifically speaking about my mother in particular, she has the absolute worst taste in clothing. She knows I am very /fa/ and she even knows where I shop and the brands I wear, yet she never fails to buy some random apparel from obscure department stores... It makes receiving gifts very awkward from her, I also feel really bad when I open the gift and find out it's something I would never wear.

The issue really isn't spending money, I couldn't care less about how much money is spent (as I shop pretty thrifty). It's rather the fact that the same money could simply be used at a store that she knows I shop at.

An example is back when I was in high school I went out shopping with my mom and at the time I was really into PacSun. Because I was into it I directed her there to shop for christmas gifts for my brother. I made it very clear that I enjoyed the store and that I (at the time) wore a lot of their apparel. We purchased extensive amounts of clothing for my brother and that very christmas, she gifted me a department store button up which, 'Reminded me of you'. I hated it and it just felt really awful, I really hated myself for not liking it but I just couldn’t see myself wearing it because of the style and fit…

I again realize this is a very touchy subject, but I feel like it's one that I can't be the only one struggling with...

its not that big a deal OP. not liking someone's gift doesn't mean you don't love them, it just means you don't like the gift. i usually give out money or buy things they previously asked for/need to loved ones to avoid this.

If you live in southern California, you're not going to fit in if you dress /fa/ recommended. So the question is, is it okay to see what the fashionable/successful/good looking people around you are wearing and emulate that? Do you adapt your fashion sense based on where you live?

Should I take the older samba model, or the new one? So far I've noticed a different logo on the tongue, plus the new ones do not have a logo on the heel. But maybe there's more?

Also what about the tongue, it seems to me that the new ones have it made from some kind of foam, where the old ones look like their tongue is leather. Is that bullshit or amirite?
