The raspberry is getting cheaper
the linkitone is a bit out of pocket, but its works with a lot of the native Arduino stuff. API and Shields. LinkItOne is really powerful for being small. But if you're Just starting i suggest Arduino all the way. It's great to get started in the field of embedded systems

also make sure to check out maker sites! They always have available projects that one could get started in. Instructables is one good example.

Don't be afraid to ask questions.
But don't be stupid and not try to figure it out for yourself first.

General rule of thumb: try to debug it yourself first and google. 9 times out of 10 the answers are already answered. Look before you ask something that's already been asked. I can't emphasize this enough. You'll get looked down on if you newfag too hard.

Hi again, anon.

I just found this image and wanted to share it; I was thinking of something along these lines but with solar panels that would face the window when closed to keep them safe during travel. I was also thinking it would be nice if, when facing outward, the shutters could be tilted at an angle to help catch sunlight. I don't know if I would need a track system for something like that though.

But my guess is that is a bit far off into the future. For now I just need to know where to start in the design process. Would I use MS Paint with a grid and/or grid paper and just go over everything foot by foot?

in 2005 i set out to build my tiny house. This pic was my inspiration. the rest was just my knowledge of building full size houses to set all the infrastructure together (electrical, plumbing etc.)

i didnt do plans, i just made up everything in my head as i went along.

Learn how to make your own panels. Save lots of cash by making a 40'x40' panel in one go then cut shapes as required. Then rivet/screw/bolt them into place(locktight if bolting).

A panel is something like buying a long piece of weatherproof plastic and adding layers of material like floor polish/polyurethane and the like. Application pending.

Exterior should be metal or wood.

i made one, there are videos on making a jig for a spot welder. its not hard, the hardest part for me was making the coil. i got a microwave from a thrift store and removed the transformer. 10g wire from lowes was like 12$ for 50 feet.

Before you waste too much time, ask your teacher first if it is allowed, safety etc.

you really only have to protect yourself from the 120V primary, coz the secondary is just a couple of volts. so, if you cover the 120V terminals with heat-shrink or tape, the rest is relatively safe, unless you nicked the primary wires, exposing the copper.
as for welding goggles, you dont need them. it shouldnt be any brighter than birthday sparklers.

The blue spark was probably static and should have grounded out through the monitor frame. I wouldn't expect any problems.

As for the other issues, there is obviously some voltage changes happening in your household circuit. The Power Supply should absorb minor changes, but that will burn the PSU itself out pretty soon.

Easiest solution (aka, not rewiring the house) is getting a Power Conditioner or Universal Power Supply. Should be 100 bucks ish. Well worth it to protect your hardware if you suspect dirty power.

I think you're over reacting to a point that you're not seeing things clearly. If nothing's wrong don't go looking for something. I'm not trying to come off as a dick, but it really doesn't seem like there's an issue. The line could have easily been a capacitor charging up, and trying to replicate it didn't work because it already had its charge.

It's probably not a problem.

If it's worrying you, get a small UPS for each computer. The controllers for them have gotten much cheaper, and better in the past few years. Even the bargain model will probably have some automatic curettage regulation. This will protect your computer from momentary (to fairly short) dips in power, and for power outages laying maybe ten minutes. That is plenty. The bigger more expensive units give you more time on otherwise identical equipment, or the same time on bigger equipment, and you won't need that. The batteries are cheap crap in anything you can afford, and will all wear out in a few years.

but essentially you figure out how the speed is communicated to the dash on the physical and data layers and build a system to analyse and display the result.
pretty much any microcontroller could do this with perhaps some additional circuitry to convert voltage levels to something suitable.
couple of shift registers and a handful of leds to display the output. possibly some hysteresis in the micro code because the last thing you want is lights flashing at you distracting your attention when you drive.

Can't you just use a phone + digital speedometer app (with gps) to make do?

Is the manifold 100% tight? Maybe it gets some air through the gaskets. Head gasket failure? Is the spark plug sitting tight - is the thread ok? Does it have good compression?
If nothing of above helps it may be a mechanical problem - the cylinder and piston rings could be worn out.

A lean condition is what requires you to apply choke. That's typically an air leak and you eliminated the carb by replacing it, but it can also be a mixture adjustment.

I suggest opening the fuel adjustment screw a quarter turn at a time and running the engine. You can start with the choke but of course the objective is "less choke, more fuel" until the engine runs correctly.

Dump the gas, check the in tank fuel filter. It's a replaceable part, but you may have issues finding one locally.Clean it if needed, refill with fresh gas.

Now check the small bowl below the fuel shutoff lever, make sure it's not full of crud, and make sure the fuel flows freely.(a 10MM boxend wrench will do the job for most carb work on common Honda mills.)
If it does not flow when moved to "on", remove the fuel cap on the tank. If it suddenly flows, you need to replace the cap, and the carb is likely fine. (Some of the Honda EPA/CARB complaint fuel tank caps are notorious for not venting properly.)

Otherwise pull the main bowl and make sure the float is not stuck and that there is not a bunch of crud in the bowl. If you have corrosion or similar in the carb bowl and it's obstructing the main jet, you're better off just replacing the carb as a unit.

The carbs on most of those Hondas are not really adjustable like an old Tillotson or similar. The base idle speed and to a very limited extent the idle mixture is all that you can adjust.

That's not to bad. Just stuff aluminum foil into the damaged holes and microwave it for about 2 minutes or until the foil melts into the groves. It may take a couple tries.

This is more /diy/, but a 3,000 psi power washer will work it up with some time. A 4,000psi industrial washer will tear that shit up no problem

So like.... a motion detection camera that sends you a snapshot or video stream when it detects a critter? I think that's fairly doable with a Raspberry Pi.

What kind of range are you looking at? And what are you going to use on the receiving end?

Battery is going to be a problem. A pi will take to long to boot and miss whatever it is supposed to be recording. Running it all the time will require too large of a battery to run for days/weeks like a commercial trial camera.

No idea how Frigidaire is doing, but Maytag has lost its brand recognition with younger buyers, and surely sales suffer as a consequence, which means a cheaper, crappier product. GE is still huge, and can afford more in the way of R&D. FA may be owned by a bigger company.

Also, if you're rich, I recommend Traulsen. They're expensive as fuck, but I can personally guarantee you a life span of 20+ years in a home environment.

They prolly come out of the same factory to be honest. I haven't been brand loyal for years, I simply set a price range I can do, make a list of "must have" features and a list of "would like" features, then see what I can find in the price range specified. If a "would like" is only going to push me out of my price range by 40 odd bucks I'll stretch, otherwise this system seems to do the job for me.

Also, are you totally fridgeless or is your old one working but seconds from death? Might be worth waiting till post Christmas sales if you can. Factory seconds are a good way to get more bang for buck as well, because who gives a fuck if the side of it is scuffed, you'll never see it anyway.
