/diy/, I have a weird fucking problem. I just moved my PC into an HAF 912 case, and I can get the mobo and case fans to spin up, but I get NOTHING but a black screen unless I use the old dell case power switch (OEM).

Now, I traced the wires on the OEM switch to line up the new power switch, because a pinout diagram for this motherboard doesn't fucking exist. I match everything up precisely, power switch, HDD LED, power LED... except a couple on the OEM switch on the bottom that don't go to anything. There's no reset button on the OEM switch, it appears that a couple wires branch off from the main power switch wires to a couple isolated pins on the bottom. I tried to put the reset switch where those mystery pins go, but nada.

Like I said, the computer powers on with the new case switch, but I only get a black screen UNLESS I unplug that, plug in the OEM switch into the motherboard and power it on with that. Then it boots to windows like normal. This is the third case it's been in too, in the second case I had this problem but I just thought the second case's switch was bad. Now I know there's something fucky afoot... Could just be no monitor signal? No clue why that would be with a different power switch.

This case looks like dogshit with the OEM switch just dangling out the front. Getting this new case's switch to work is the last fucking step in my build. Does ANYBODY have any idea what's going on? The motherboard is a Dell Great Bear MIH81R. Pic related is the OEM power switch.

I was redirected here from /g/. The replies there have not pointed me towards a solution thus far. Hoping somebody has an idea as to what's going on.

A stupid project I want to do is make a kart/mini cycle car with a bike engine, cuz revving to 15k going 60+ on a kart sounds like a blast. But I want to mount the drive package to the front but still have it rwd because 1) mounting it to the back is too easy so that's no fun and 2) weight up front means less wheelie.
I could run a long ass chain through a conduit but that would be an absolute pain. I toyed with how to adapt the chain drive to a driveshaft system with bevel gears as a ring and pinion but it would also probably be a pain to get it right and reliable. Then I saw these things, and I thought they would be awesome. However, they're generally rated for less than 2hp and 2k rpm, which is not going to work at all. Does anyone make something like this or better that can handle the power and speed? Remember it's going to be a janky little kart so a big car diff would be way too much.

Hey /diy/, so I ordered a soldering pen for 3$ online which I admit was probably a mistake in its own, anyways it includes 2 soldering wires.

Does anyone know if I can use these wires to solder on a circuit board? There is no instructions or descriptions of what material the wire is made out of, but all I know is that it's very flexible even more flexible than a regular staple.

Look at this refrigerator water valve. Is it in the OFF position right now?

Or is it only off when you turn the handle to the left, so the handle is perpendicular to the rest of the unit?

I know this is an incredibly retarded question, maybe the dumbest one this board has ever seen, but I could really use an answer. :/

So X-mas is in a few days, and i found the *PERFECT* gift for my little brother, who just recently started getting into pokemon. My original Pokemon Blue cart! And my save file(which i poured more than 200 hours into) is still there too! Problem is, i bought it back in '98, so the fact that my save is still there is amazing enough, but its probably a matter of days/weeks before that battery that is keeping the save file dies.
I have all the parts i need to swap the battery out(Soldering iron, solder, the replacement 2025 battery) and i see there are ways to swap the battery out if you do the operation while its powered by a GB(advance, as you still need to have access to the top half of the cart. Orig GB/GBp/GBc ones block too much space to work the soldering iron into the right place)
Thing is, i dont have a GBA. I only have a GB pocket(also giving it to the brother. For an authentic late 90's experience) and a DS lite.

My question is, does anyone know if pluging the cart into a DS while doing to battery swap will also maintain its save? I dont know much electricity is actually transferred to the cartridge if it isnt actually booted(DS and beyond can only play GBA games) and it would really suck to find out after the battery is replaced that the save file was lost anyway.

I was fixing a hole in my basement today from another diy project gone wrong. Upon clearing the drywall (brown backed) hole I noticed that some areas that had been chipped had little clear/silver hairs popping out ...it was isolated and maybe in one or two area with maybe a handfull of tiny little strands sticking out. My question is...what the hell are they? It cant be asbestos as this basement was built around 2000...I know nothing about drywall so maybe someone can help?
