My friend lives next street and we were wondering if it is possible to have a wireless network set up between our houses. I measured the distance, and it is roughly 195 meters (640 ft.). We thought maybe we could use 2 parabolic antennas and wi-fi, but I have no idea if it is even remotely possible. Could it work?

Yes, it is very easy to do. Just get 2 USB wifi devices, two 10 feet long USB extension cords, and 2 parabolic dishes (google "wokfi"). I use metal lamp shades like those used for heating lamps but you can something cheaper. Pic related. I don't have mine outside, they just aim at each other through several walls and it does the trick. For block walls you'll need to bounce it around them using some flat surface the signal can bounce off of. I had to do that for someone's wireless security cameras.
I only use 1 dish for my setup and that is all that is needed for my range. It is about 200-250 feet away and through 3 wood-drywall walls. Having 2 dishes pointed at each other will extend the range up to a couple miles with line-of-sight.

I've been doing all my projects involving an FPGAs with Verilog, since thats the HDL I was taught in school but the thing is I've noticed virtually every project I see online is written in VHDL,
for anyone who's had experience with both is it just a better language for DIY projects? would it be worth my time to learn VHDL and use that instead?

Its pretty much the same thing. CompEng here, I was taught VHDL in a Digital Systems class that was messing around with FPGAs but in another class we used verilog for something and I remember its pretty much the same, don't worry about that. Use whatever.

From my understanding Verilog is more popular in the US and VHDL is more popular everywhere else. I think VHDL is also more appropriate for scaling when producing ASIC, but I'm definitely no expert. The thing I hate about VHDL is that you have to change everything in about 3 or more places everytime you change something.

I need help making a mouse pad for my Dad. I've been cross stitching for my holiday pressents. I'm planning one for my dad, but I want it to be utilitarian as well. How could I best create a mouse pad with my cross stitch pattern? I've seen some cheap possibilities with sanded plastics, but I want something nice for him. This is an odd request, but I was wondering if anyone knows of or has footage of someone crafting, shaping, carving, sanding, etc. wood that doesn't speak. To be more specific, I'm looking for footage where someone is doing something involving carpentry and not talking as if it's some tutorial.

It's not weird, I love watching people work that are really good at what they do. Especially carpenters. Unless they're doing something crazy like cross cutting a long plank on the table saw with their hands or leaning into a band saw too far with their fingers in line with the blade. I love working with wood for the same reason, once you figure out that math and do the setups it's smooth sailing, as long as you did the first parts right.
Try looking up build videos instead of how to build videos. Even some of the guys on YouTube who are self made instructors have videos where they just build stuff.

I've always been a digital logic fag, so my analog skills are subpar. I could use some help with what some components of this circuit do. Here's what know:
C1 prevents reverse flow out the input
R1 biases the input
The gain potentiometer controls gain by controlling the amplification factor, preventing electrons from flowing across the cathode.
C2 and R4 do the same as C1/R1 for stage 2
4,5 heater
C3, prevents reverse flow through the circuit
C4, VR2 adjusts tone by controlling how much low-band FQ can drain to ground
VR3, self explanatory
What I dont understand, is where R2/R3 come from, how those values were determined and what they really do.

I think C3 is a coupling between the amp circuit and the tonestack/volume control to keep the two from interfering with each other (hard to explain I'm drunk)
C4 you understand. Look at C1 and 2 the same way, just with fixed resistors.
R2 and R3 affect what voltage actually goes on the tubes. Look up a voltage divider and it'll give you a rough idea, not exactly the same, but the ballpark concept.

How would you go about preserving skin with long hair on it?
Hypothetically I have someone's scalp with their long hair still attached. What's the best way I can make it last without damaging the hair so I could like, say wash said hair occasionally and stuff?
Would it be as simple as tanning the hide, I think that's the phrasing? I'd like to avoid chemicals in the event of damaging the hair and not being able to smell it regularly.

Why aren't there any reasonable 3d printers that have a 2ft x 2ft printing bay area (let's say a 1 ft height, just for shits and giggles).

I'm looking for shit tier quality with a large bay size. I see machines that are "meant to be upgraded!" but will then charge nearly a hundred dollars for a larger threaded rod.
I don't mind spending money for a 3d printer, but would prefer to spend at / under 1k for a shit quality large bay size machine.

hey /diy/, anyone here ever do an install of a natural gas line? I am looking at some remote property with free gas. The problem is while it already has an old trailer with a service already installed, my whole family will move to this property and they will need to tap in to the line. How would I go about sizing the main service line to the house? Potentially long runs, its an 80 acre property and the gas well is to the side. Maybe 500-700 feet. Any ideas?

anyway, get the NG utility to do the work. long runs of underground pipe require special tools. also, tapping into the high pressure main before the meter requires the utility supplying the NG to shut the line down. typically one would use a poly pipe to run underground and the fittings are plastic welded. this is not /diy/

I'd like to design ( and then build ) my own tiny hipster house to store my lawnmower, rake and hose pipe in but have no clue where to begin. I have ideas like maybe using a shipping container half buried upright in the ground with the bit above ground being covered in reclaimed wood from pallets and some sort of protective window shutters that close over the windows to prevent immigrants form stealing my lawnmower but have no clue how to incorporate them into a blueprint.
I have no resources, I'm renting a town house and I don't own a lawnmower.
Help please.

For the larger logos either use bigger stencils or several smaller stencils taped tightly together.
Spray painting it on after placing the stencils works fine.

My idea was to do the outlines with pencil and then if it's nice, use a permanent marker on it, but I'm not sure how it gets on the wall. BTW, I don't live in North America, So my walls aren't made of cardboard, they are bricks and the white cement stuff to paint on it, then the paint. Hello, /diy/.
I got an old foot-powered sewing machine structure (the cast iron part) and plan to make a lathe out of it. But I'm having a problem and I can't seem to find a good solution due to my lack of knowledge in this area.
As the picture shows, one of the four table supporters is broken, and I don't have the broken part, nor any experience in welding. And as far as I read, it's kinda tricky to weld cast iron.
So, how can I fix it? Any ideas? It must be sturdy.

About the supporter, all I can see is to use soldering and some piece of metal. If you want to make it even you would need to find another sewing machine.
