If the battery provides 4.5 volts and the led I want to use takes in 3 volts will that work? Like will the other components (speaker) not have enough power from the led taking in more than usual power?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
if battery voltage is higher than led forward voltage a resistor is required.
the resistor value will set the power the led will use. try a value that is bright enough, not too bright.
>>
>>948775

this is something that you shouldn't worry about

for a standard jellybean LED just throw in 1k unless you are working with unusually high power. otherwise just get a 10k pot, and test it.
>>
Use a resistor to drop the extra 1.5V (and limit current).
Resistor_Value = 1.5Volts / LEDamps

So an LED rated 20mA would need a R of:
R = 1.5/0.02 = 75ohms

Any have Frey desk plans? I don't think the kickstarter is alive.https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1417939992/frey-desk-flexible-workspace-for-creative-people/description . Help me figure out the measurements in the sketch.

Seems like something for which you can make up your own measurements as long as the dowel-holding slots are cut spaced evenly.

Are there any ecofans that don't look like shit? On amazon they're all a big ugly heatsink with a weird-shaped fan blade, I'm looking for something that would match an antique show stove

I'm looking to build a dune buggy, go kart or something that's engine based. Is there a website in the EU or UK that's like HobbyKing where I can buy car parts and frames?

Do you want something lifesize or remote controlled?

Lifesize: HAHAHA faggot. Learn to weld and go to the scrapyard for your metal needs. Use a VW Beetle rolling chassis. Many kitcars that go this route.

RC: HobbyKing surely got what you need. Learn to fucking browse their site.

The apartment I'm moving into has old ugly carpet

Is there a thing that exists, where I can lay temporary carpet over the current one?

Does that kind of carpet exist? What's it called? How would it work

Have them let you update the carpet in exchange for cheaper rent. (Get it in writing)

Casual DIYer here. Never really posted on /diy/ though, outside of once showing how I broke an axe handle splitting wood more than a year ago. I have a question.

I think that routers sorta meme tier here, right? Well, anyway, I'm in the market for a good router. Anyone have any recommendations? Also need a good router table, but that can be made and doesn't need to be bought.

I have had bad experience with Makita drills and sabre saws, so Makita is out.

Pic unrelated.

Routers come down to this...

Motor rating. REAL RATINGS look at the actual voltage/amprage sticker. For example if the motor says "3HP" on the package but it says 110 volt 8 amps on the sticker. Its not 3hp. 15 amps is about 2hp realistic in most motors like 1.8hp

So judge by the motor. Also the faceplate.. One that has a stamped metal plate at least... Plastic can be good but it won't be on any router that comes with them.

And finally a router isn't meme tier. Its the first real power tool!

Looking to frame this out as a small home rack closet with components picture, wiring the home with cat 5e. Would it be wiser to put a door, or just frame out the current cubby, and running the cable into the attic?

I think a full door would allow better access to repair, etc.

How would you go about it? Besides the frame out... What would you add besides power, light source, switch for light source, and ventilation fans? What am I missing?

Hang a painting there.

What everyday items have you found improved your life like no other?

I bought a laundry hamper that has a laundry bag liner. So, when I have to do laundry, I can just take the bag out and go.

I mean, optimally, I would just use the laundry hamper to transport my clothes, but the bag is easier to carry.

I just use my washer as my laundry hamper. When it gets full it gets washed. I also keep my dressers in the laundry room.

Anybody have any experience with the heavier duty rotary hammers specifically the 2" SDS MAX models? I couldn't find any actual comparison tests for these larger models. What have you used and what do you like? I've been looking at pic related.

I use these frequently at work, I suggest renting one, trying it out, but if you do purchase one get a combo one, drill/ hammer I think the Milwaukee has that option.

Use Plastidip paint. Its very flexible and easy to apply.

Isn't plastidip a rubber? Will that actually stick to PVC?

I recently started getting into Go, and think I now want to build my own board. What would be a good method of doing this, which is a good compromise between cost and aesthetics? I was thinking of laminating wooden planks together, and cutting the amalgamation to size, but I don't have a great deal of carpentry experience (high school woodworking), so I will defer to /diy/'s better judgement.

Well, whatever you do entirely depends on what equipment you have, the kind of effort you want to put in it, and the amount of money you are willing to spend on it, be it materials or tools.

If you are feeling really cheeky and want to recycle some board scrap of the same thickness, you can always use dowels to join them together, plane them flat and finish. While it won't look absolutely amazing, some can argue that it can add "character" to the piece, but I don't mind. If you want something nicer, look for woods that please you - cedar, oak and even cherry. Wood choice is up to you, and that will affect cost and finishing methods. Some woods, depending on where you are, can be hard to source for whatever size you are going for because not many may be willing to cut a large piece for you. Feel free to prove me wrong, as I am unaware of the availability of many woods worldwide.

As for gridlines, depending on the wood, you can route them out, use a sharpie or even burn them on. All require different equipment, have varying results and need varying levels of experience. Burning a pattern on always looked nice to me. Whatever you do for this step will determine the kind of finish that is available to you.

As for finishes, you can always oil it up with linseed, apply polyurethane, waxes, leave the wood alone, and my personal favorite, shellac for a french polish. Whatever you have for the gridlines may have a bad effect on the finish, such as bad visibility, so take that into consideration.

I'm a big fan of french polished goods, especially when it doesn't fit the item, so I'm a bit biased towards that. I suggest you look into shop-cut woods or even just wood availability in your area and start your search there. MDF with a layer of stencilled in paint and clearcoated might just be the cheapest option I can think of, apart from using a pencil for lines.

Hey guys. I just nabbed an old Emerson EWC1303 13" tv/vcr combo from the Salvo. Problem is, there's a noticeable chip in the screen that is just a minor annoyance. I just am wondering if I can actually fix this without replacing the screen or getting a new one. I can't find any information on anything that isn't "fix a flat screen" or the newer LCD shit.

CRT? Then its leaded glass. Leaded glass is softer then normal glass. You might be able to polish it.

Lowest of the low end Asian garbage. You shouldn't have paid money for it.

It went to Charity. I should've bought the Philips next to it, or at least checked the conditions of each screen. I wanted to buy both, desu. They sell really well.

i like masks, making and wearing. i like making unique masks, i am working on a wooden one that i carved out of a log, i want to do something with hdpe and aluminum. i have worked both but i have never needed to make my own mold, i need something that will work with these, something that can handle the heat of molten metal and maybe be strong enough to not stick to hdpe, hopefully for cheap. Any ideas?

/diy/,

I'm about to be filming a youtube channel in my room but my room is boring as fuck, dead empty, and the background looks too plain. Any suggestions of things to build to fill up my room? I have a cabinet I can use, a poster that I can frame, I just need some more Ideas so I can make it atleast look decent. Any suggestions>

I'm filming about torso level and up. Going to be doing electronics on a table, with my camera focused directly from above on the table, and sometimes directly at me with the wall behind if I need to say something.

TL:DR I'm a child and need the internet to help me make my room cooler

pic not my room but you get the idea

Check out the app called Houzz, you can view other people's remodelled interior spaces from home owner's and professionals. Just search for bedrooms and save the one's you like. Hopefully that helps!
