Does coating frozen French fries in olive oil make them soggier?
I haven't eaten fries in ages, and didn't want to go to a fast food joint so I got frozen fries instead. I was really craving them. I coated them in olive oil because I thought that makes them crispier, but they're just soggy.
Was I wrong?

Frozen fries are always a recipe for disappointment.
Get potatoes, cut them up, double-deep-fry them. Anything else is a recipe for sadness.
>>9242959
Did you bake them in the oven or fry them?
Either way, you chose the wrong oil to use with them. Olive oil's flash point is too low for deep frying.

>flash point
Surely you meant smoke point.

I was told that the Portuguese have a version of roast pork belly akin to Chinese Siu yuk but better.
Does anyone know what it might be so I can make it? Google points me to barriga assada but there seem to be a number of variants, and I don't understand euro.
>>9242764
It's just a braise with seasoning. If you can braise something you can rend down the pork belly. I actually find it to be inferior because it melts the fat...it's arguable for sure, but I like having that thick layer of fat on my pork belly which is why I roast it.
Anyway, get some pork bones and make a stock, or store buy it I guess. Toss in some seasoning as you see fit and braise it at about 300 for about 4 hours, turning the belly several times. That's it.
>>9242790
Actually I think, pretty sure, it comes out of the braise directly into a quick sear on one side.
School food.
Most people gripe and groan and mumble and moan about the school food of years gone by, but to me it was always delicious. I hated school with a passion but come lunch time, I was living.
My high school had a "mexcican" line, an "american" line, an "italian" line, and a salad bar. From the Mexican line, they had these delicious chili cheese burritos that came in plastic bags similar to pic related, they were fucking delicious and even though they were clearly frozen burritos, no store bought ones could compare to these chili cheese burritos and I have no IDEA how they prepared them because they would be still in bag, and perfectly cooked and somehow tasted fresh
I would wear a hoodie and shove one in my pocket while waiting in line, then place one on my tray
>>9242720
>but to me it was always delicious
You wasted an awful lot of text that could have easily been with replaced with:
"my parents served me shit so school food seemed good by comparison"
In my middle school, we had what was called the "Taco Snack"
Looking at this packaging, it sounds disgusting, I wonder if ours were this brand because they were served out of package, but regardless they looked just like this and they tasted great in those days
I used to get a side order of Nacho (not your) Cheese and dunk the shit out of my Taco Snack
In elementary school, we had this unique invention. A fiesta hexigon pizza, this was really tasty

if you have not eaten this, you have not lived
>>9242621
I've had cafeteria school pizza before, pretty sure that's the same thing.
>>9242621
A heat gun is literally the best way to prepare them

Legit question incoming:
Im gonna make a stew
yknow... brown some slices of pork, sautè some veggies, put it all in a bowl with a fuckton of spices & sauces & whatever, and let that shit boil for about 3 hours, till the meat is so tender it almost dissolves when you touch it. A stew (pic related)
what im wondering is, i have a bag of chips thats got a little bit left in it. like 50 grams (bit less than two ounces), and its mostly the bottom, sorta smashed up-parts. what will happen if i throw it in the stew? will the chips dissolve? cuz im not trying to have some soggy nasty shit in my stew, but if they just dissolve and contribute to the "wholeness" (and taste) of it, then im thinking that might be pretty rad
thats the kind of chips i got
its "beef & onion"-taste, but its mostly the bottom pieces, where all the smashed up ones are (as well as most of the spices)
>>9244217
I think they'd just disappear. If you're worried about fucking up your stew, sprinkle them on top when you have a bowl of it. Like oyster crackers in soup.
I won't judge.
>>9244239
yea im just thinking, potatoes usually take a while to dissolve. but maybe if i just smash them to pieces, and sprinkle them over, that itd be fine
... ill probably just do that. stews are fucking rad, you can usually throw just whatever into them, and it all just blends together
i might also sprinkle them on top afterwards, as you suggested. might give it a nice contexture. cheers
Why do these taste better than regular cheetos?
>>9242596
the fuck is this blatant illuminati/jewish witchcraft shit doing on my cheetos?
>>9242596
I guess the color orange is getting popular as a skin tone if they're even using it in advertising cheetos.
>>9242596
Nostalgia. I'm 33 and remember these being around at age 6 or so.
My boss hired a snobby restaurant consultant and he's driving me crazy, /ck/.
He keeps following me around telling me my food is shit and raw. What the fuck?
How can I get rid of this prick? I just want to enjoy my comfy cook job.
Ask him if you're an idiot sandwich
>>9242503
So basically he's a rent-A-Ramsey hired to tell you your shits fuckin raw? Haha.
>>9242503
So, your post wasn't supposed to be a reply to that other thread?
Don't worry... your retardation will be our little secret.
What do you do with your pizza crusts?
I usually just throw them out for the squirrels to fight over.
>>9244047
bridge for the ants
I fight squirrels for ones I find in my neighborhood.
>>9244047
Eat them because I don't spend money on pizza that has shitty crust
I don't care if you think your fancy Belgian chocolate is superior. You are objectively wrong. This is the most delicious chocolate bar on the planet.

I think that would be Snickers.

>In all honesty, I don't know that many people that sample enough variety of chocolate regularly enough to have a solid opinion.
>I mean, chocolate is great and all, but how much would you need to consume to get a really good critical taste for the stuff?
Are you serious? There is something weird about you then. Any American kid who was lucky enough not to live in scarytown or have Jehovahs Witness parents grew up eating chocolate varieties. It is one of the first things I do when I leave a foreign airport, go to a store that sells local goods, and eyeball the chocolate, or get it in a cafe that makes their own chocolates.
ANNUALLY, I attend the Fairchild Chocolate Festival, and that is not just because it is near my house.
What's the criteria meet for a deluxe pizza?
Ham
Pepperoni
Green peppers
Onions
(Bacon, peppers, olives optional)
Is this the official rulings?
Fuck that shit, throw cheddar, bacon, tomatoes, olives, mozzarella, picles, burger patties, sausages, every thing. THAT'S a good diet...
>>9243241
Never seen a deluxe in the US. We have Supremes: pepperoni, sausage, bell pepper, onion
Either sausage, pepperoni, or both
Onion
Green pepper
Mushroom
Black olive

???
>>9242399
I'm gonna take a guess and assume you're trying to say coffee tastes like burnt stuff. If that's the case, you're only drinking coffee from burnt, over roasted coffee beans.
/ck/, what's the best buffalo sauce you can make? I use frank red's but after a few years I want to make the best I can, not just better than self stuff.
>>9242357
>Inb4 some faggot says Sri racha
Go hotter. Use some habanero pepper.
>>9242357
frank's and butter
If you want a different flavor, then use a different sauce. Depends on what you're going for, but I'd assume you'd want a vinegar-based thin sauce such as Franks, but don't let me stop you.
isn't buffalo just hot sauce and butter
might be interesting to saute something in the butter beforehand, or substitute with other kind of liquid fat
