Recently I learned that MREs/rations/canned food are actually shit. Not in the nutritional sense (which I already knew), but in the "this shit has a terrible shelf life" sense.
I think the problem was buying into the canned goods meme, that we could store canned goods for 25 years and eat them in a shit hits the fan scenario. Apparently canned goods are really only good for 2-5 years these days.
The fuck am I supposed to store for longtime emergency rations? Dehydrated food? Freeze dried food? I'm lost and confused in a vortex of edibles.
Help me, /ck/. Ideally I want something cheap that I can just seal and forget.

>The fuck am I supposed to store for longtime emergency rations?
You're not. Unless you live in some shithole like Syria or Kenya you do not need emergency rations. Or a bunker. Or a stockpile of ammo. The biggest crisis you're likely to see is the price of beef keep going up.
store some, write the expiration date on package in big bold letters, and store in an orangement it's simple to understand when they will start to expire.
eat as things start to expire, and replace when you eat.

but one of the strongest countries in the world is going to fall apart overnight and this guy needs to be ready
Guys I'm having some friends over tonight and I'm pretty much poor as f.
Thinking about serving noodle soup as an appetiser, some spaghetti-rice (my recipe) with a side dish of potatoes and some home baked bread.
It's decent but doesn't give that 'I'm poor' vibe. Please give suggestions because I'm not that good of a cook but I want to serve something delicious.
>>7105724
dude what. post that spaghetti rice recipe. i gotta see this shit.
Where's the meat, chaim?
Nothing says poorfag like NO MEAT. At least let a nigga get some CHEESE.
>>7105724
Dude.
> noodle soup
> spaghetti
> rice
> potatoes
> bread
You are serving nothing but carb. If that's not poorfag, nothing is.
What's the point of stuffing if it's not inside a turkey gathering up all the delicious juices inside? Who came up with the idea of eating stuffing by itself? Is this another stupid vegan thing?
It's just a dumb meme
Don't give it any more attention OP
My reasoning is that I love stovetop stuffing and don't feel like making homemade stuffing.
>>7105648
Stuffing = In the bird
Dressing = on the side
I like stuffin' muffins too...just spoon some dressing into muffin pan and bake for about 20 minutes, they make individual servings.
I dug sweet potatoes a while back so that I could make pie for turkey day. I need a recipe.
Whatever you do, top it with a pecan crumble.
>>7105635
No thank you. I resent pecans.
I just use the allrecipes recipe with a bit less sugar and with a bit of flour to keep it firm.
mozzarella
tomato
basil

Meatballs
Sausage
Garlic dip sauce

Pepperoni jalapeño tomato
If you’re searching for the perfect turkey recipe for Thanksgiving, the fine folks behind the “Baked” series have you covered. All you need is a 12 pound turkey, butter, chicken stock, maple syrup, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper, and plenty of weed. http://aviationstreetwear.com/?p=5803

I just spread it with a knife
What did you have for breakfast?
>>7105431
Fried catfish and chocolate milk
A handful of whole-grain crackers, a slice of provolone and a coffee.
>>7105431
coffee and a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich both from the bodega down the street
What is the best supermarket and why is it Aldi?
Aldi is fine but I'm more of a Lidl man myself.
>in b4 retards argue about "quality" without realising it's different in each country
To avoid any doubt, I'm talking about Lidl & Aldi in the UK; both have decent meat, cheese, produce and bread (in store bakeries, even)
It's certainly isn't Tesco. That's for sure.
Aldi and Lidl are both horrid, full of sandpeople who can barely communicate and it feels like you're dumpster diving while shopping there.
What would be a good protein to serve with oven roasted sweet potatoes?
Bison
>>7105425
funny story... if you want to get frozen bison(WITHOUT ANY ADDITIVES) for mad cheap, you can find it at some pet stores who sell refrigerated petfoods.
>>7105418
Seconding this - I eat roasted sweet potatoes, yams, and other roots all the time and I never really like anything I pair it with.
I think that if you want it to be more than just a side and truly pair with a dish, then you need to either mash it or add a sauce like this : http://www.moosewoodcooks.com/2011/10/navajo-stew/
Once that's done there is plenty that it could be paired with.
what's some exotic food you'd like to try but have to take big steps or just generally can't be arsed to get?
>>7105398
I don't fucking understand why poutine isn't even a thing outside Canada.
Living in the US there isn't really that many things that are difficult to find, aside from a decent baguette and pic related.
Why do you keep reusing the same pictures for every thread?
You do this on /tv/ as well
Is Wensleydale cheese really as good as they make it to be in Wallace and Gromit?
>>7105375
Why don't you try it yourself?

It's not as good as moon cheese

Dumb food related stuff you've done
>eating shin ramen
>stupidly use a plastic spoon
>plastic leeches into the broth so it tastes like toxic sludge
>can't eat shin ramen any more without gagging
>>7105233
how fucking hot was the soup? it's supposed to cool down a bit before you eat, man
I replied to this thread
>making sugar cookies
>recipe calls for cream of tartar
>used tartar sauce
What was fast food like in the 80s? was it better?
>portion sizes smaller
>soda sizes smaller
>food was probably made of actual meat and not chemical binders, flavorings and preservatives
>people actually took the time to savor their food instead of swallowing it whole and then getting back on their phones to check their facebook
The burgers were much bigger. Burger King's motto was, "It takes two hands to hold a whopper!"
Of course, they can't say that any longer.
Big Macs used to be nearly twice the size. McDonald's used to fry their fries in beef flavoring. They were delicious. You could get fried apple pies too.
(I was born in the 70s)
>>7105117
mcdonalds fried their fries in literal beef fat
There are people on this board RIGHT NOW who hold a fork in their right hand like a fucking barbarian.
>>7105065
Isn't that facebook? Does facebook use hashtags now? Like, I barely understand the concept, but are there people just searching for #cauliflowermash on facebook or something. What are you doing on there anyway, you fucking normie. This is a terrible thread.
I hold forks in both hands for max efficiency
>>7105075
Facebook does have support for hashtags, but few people use them. She's shared that photo from her instagram though, hence the hashtags.
