ITT: Worst family recipes we got fed when we were kids

I don't remember what my mom called this I think she just called it "Cabbage"

Basically you chop up a cabbage.
Then boil it in milk
Then add ice cream(yes I shit you not)
Then add bacon
Then crystallized ginger


Then you just let it boil

It was the most disgusting fucking thing I think I've ever set eyes on.

My mother had a couple depression era dishes she tried to pass off on the family when I was very young. Here's the worst:

Canned salmon casserole
Drain a can of salmon. Mix in a bowl with a little chopped onion, celery, a couple eggs, white bread soaked in milk, salt and pepper. Stir until it's an even consistence, put in buttered casserole dish. Top with breadcrumbs and bake.

It comes out like a fishy bread pudding. Truly a horror.

Share your best chicken marinade recipes.

1 cup soy sauce
1/8th cup miso paste
1/16th cup sriracha
1 teaspoon fresh ginger paste.
1/3 cup honey
1/4th cup freshly squeezed OJ
1/8th cup teriyaki sauce.

Let soak for 30-40 minutes then quickly sear then place in oven.

Any of you came here from /fit/ so that you can meal prep?

I did. I got tired of seasoning my chicken breast with just salt and pepper, throwing it on my George Foreman and damning it to eternity every day, stanking up the apartment. Wanted better ways to meet macros.

Pros:
>Cheap as fuck
>Whole foods make you feel fuller, so its easier to stay on track (srsly, lost like 12 lbs. in 3 months in the beginning)
>Meal prep once a week, you dont need to worry about eating for the rest of it

Cons:
>At around Wednesday (assuming you meal prep Sunday like I do) the food kind of gets a bit less flavorful

Make meals you can freeze, and them thaw them overnight in the fridge. That way you avoid stale foods.

How do I learn cooking?
I can cook shit like pasta, rice, french fries, potatoes, pizza, spaghetti, sushi, varenyky but it's basic shit and a monkey with half brain and recipe can make them.
What do you need to know how to make to be able to say that you know how to cook? Steak? Ribs? Curry?
