since we're starting into the first week of december, let's talk about comfy winter drinks, preferably hot

pic related, hot cocoa, not that powdered hot chocolate trash

last time i had this was about 8-10 years ago with godiva hot cocoa, and i'm thinking about picking up some at my local grocery. is this shit good with baileys?

I usually mix soy-milk with pure cocoa powder, some sugar and anise. The soy milk makes it extra creamy and tastes a bit nutty if you get the right one.

After that I'll add some amaretto, or some other sweet clear liquor. Things like rum or whiskey usually ruin the taste, and I think baileys makes it too creamy and sweet

I make hot chocolate like so:

1. Get some chocolate of whatever brand you prefer (I would recommend against dark chocolate; it didn't taste how I thought it would)

2. Break this chocolate into little bits (chocolate chips will save time)

3. Make a double boiler. To do this, take a saucepan/pot and fill it with water. Then, put a bowl over the sauce pan/bowl.

4. Put the chocolate in the bowl and boil the water. Stir the chocolate occasionally to make sure it doesn't burn (unlikely)

5. Heat up whole milk but do not boil it to avoid milk fats rising to the top

6. Combine chocolate with milk

7. Add whatever other elements you want as well (peppermint, cinnamon)

This way you don't burn the chocolate in the microwave. You can also make hot white cocoa, but it's VERY sweet.

Why are Euros so insecure?

When they talk about themselves it's always, "you don't know shit about our superiour cuisine! Every region and every village in France/Italy/Spain/etc... has their own unique regional specialties that far exceed anything America has ever produced!" Yet for some reason when a group of people from France/Italy/Spain/etc... move to America and come up with a variation on their native cuisine you cry, "inauthentic! inauthentic!"

On the other hand, the people crying always seem to be the ones who actually learn English, who are the Northern Europeans, who tend to have a shit food culture to begin with - one which isn't exactly difficult to import - and shouldn't be whining about authenticity.

On the other, other hand. Minnesota is the definition of flyover, and these Norwegian communities are about as isolated as you can get in the States. They literally live in middle of nowhere farmlands where they can drive for miles of farmlands and the only houses they'll come across are they're own extended family.

Let's share some little known cooking tips that only the elite know.

I'll start.

> Carbonara.

Two things you need to know:

1. The sauce is mostly cream, go easy on the egg yolk and pepper.

2. ALWAYS use streaky bacon, NEVER cheek bacon or pancetta.

> Chili.

It's not Chili if it lacks kidney beans and tomatoes, it's beef stew. Many people get this wrong to this very day.

> Eggs benedict.

There is literally no point in making the sauce. It's virually identical to yellow mayo. Just serve it with yellow mayo from a bottle and you can skip making the hollandaise.

> Paella.

Ideal flavor is achieved using Turmeric for coloring. Saffron has a bitter, metallic taste and should be avoided.

I have good memories of going with friends and family to one restaurant as a kid, but in the last decade or so every time I've eaten their pizza it's been abnormally greasy.

So, my roommate is a fat ex-Teavana employee basic bitch who likes those fruity flavored "teas". I asked her if she adds sugar and she told me "no, just German rock sugar!!!" Also, she has one generic green tea in her cabinet but she claims it's for "health purposes" and she really don't like it.

What can I get her for Christmas that can culture her a bit? I'm thinking to get her a sampler pack of white teas from one of the online Chinese estates, considering it should be light enough for her to drink without complaining it's too bitter.
