1,993,528 pounds of product being recalled (mostly) under the Hormel brand
http://www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/wcm/connect/FSIS-Content/internet/main/topics/recalls-and-public-health-alerts/recall-case-archive/archive/2016/recall-115-2016-expanded
I am always amazed how companies survive these recalls. They must really really make a decent profit .
>>8340460
If they're recalling almost two million pounds, imagine how many pounds of product they make in a year. The food industry doesn't make its money off of high profit margins, they make it off of high overturn. When you're feeding everyone on the planet, there is a LOT of money to be made.
Who the fuck buys ready to eat chicken products.
And I said the same thing when I saw this at work today (I work at a public health place so they send out updates for shit like this)
Just made some hummus (not my image) using a recipe online, and it turned out tasting VERY strongly of lemon juice. It's not bad, but I'm not getting much more from it.
Decided to look into it, and the amount of lemon juice fluctuates drastically from recipe to recipe, like from one teaspoon to 1/4 cup per 15oz of chickpeas.
Does anyone have a decent recipe for hummus? I'm sure I could tweak the recipe myself to get something decent, but having a better starting point might help.
So use less lemon juice
>>8340371
Maybe use less lemon?
>can somebody predict exactly how much lemon juice to use in this recipe that ive failed to provide?
>It tasted VERY strongly of lemon, should I add more lemon? Would that solve the problem?
Why do Europeans get so triggered by Hershey's chocolate?
I'm American, and even I acknowledge it's shit. It burns your throat and tastes awful.
>>8340357
>chocolate
>>8340357
I don't know. Try asking /int/.
Anyone here go foraging for mushrooms to avoid paying ridiculous amounts of money for the slimy bastards they sell at the store?
Pic related, it's a mushroom I found yesterday - there were a couple chanterelles growing nearby, they're great fried up with some onions and white wine over pasta.
>>8340331
Ehhhhhh. The only mushrooms I feel comfortable identifying are chanterelle, they are common in my area quite frequently but I've only picked them once. Otherwise I'd rather not risk killing myself for a few $
>>8340331
in b4 that was a jack o'lantern
In my school one of the most popular books was a guide to mushrooms in the British Isles. I think I would have to order a copy and read avidly before I go foraging.
Pic shows Phallus impudicus, which surprisingly is edible even though it has a pungent odour.
>eat fish

how fat are you?

Shut up faggot, go back to jerking off to anime.
A modern take on an old classic.
Cheesy beans on toast my way.

>>8340103
Fucking fat Americans putting cheese on everything
>>8340122
This is classic British food though. Cheesy beans is strictly an Anglo thing. In America we spice and season our food and don't use disgusting "cheese" imitations unless you're in a white flyover area. *shivers*
>>8340103
My god.
Its the shitest cheapest shit from the shitest cheapest supermarket make by the chavist northerner you've ever seen on youtube.
That is a proper council house tea if ever I saw one.
>make a pasta dish
>end up cooking too much pasta
Every single time. Anyway, what can I do with leftover pasta sitting in the fridge?
>>8340101
i don't know exactly what to do with leftover pasta, but a good tip to get the amount right is to put the dry pasta into a bowl so you can see the amount, then put it in the water
>>8340101
>what can I do with leftover pasta sitting in the fridge?
an other pasta dish?
pasta salad
pasta gratin
etc
>>8340101
Pasta salad.
let's talk about hot sauces, hot peppers, spicy recipes.
What kind of sauces do you keep on hand?
Do any of you grow your peppers? I usually grow a dozen varieties or so every summer. This past summer I had an excess of tobasco peppers so I made a sauce out of it.
Make way for the master race
My homemade tobaso was very "green" tasting, it did have good flavor but was just overall vinegary and tasted like Crystal hotsauce.
I bought a few hot sauce books and a fermentation book, anyone have any pointers on fermenting a good sauce?
Is $7.99/lbs a good price for a rib roast?
Saw it on sale at the local market, and am wondering if I should pick one up.
Depends on the grade. For thanksgiving my local store had prime grade rib roasts for 8.99 a lb. Couldn't pass that up

It's a local butcher that uses local cattle, everything that I have gotten from there has been better than any meat I have ever gotten anywhere else. One of the very few perks of moving to a small ranching town in bumfuck nowhere.
Everyone keeps saying if you want to improve the seasoning on a cast iron pan, cook bacon in it. Am I doing it rite?
You did it, op.
I never got the bacon meme.
Just spray it with some pam and then heat it up till it smokes and turn it off.
>>8340897
Help, I don't know how to turn the pan off!
I thought I'd start a raw food diet, not because I'd want to lose weight or save the animals (well I kind of want to save the animals) or any other reason.
I just think it fits my lifestyle and philosophy on existing.
Any good recipes for a started? Going to the shop if I get replies, can deliver the whole process if you want, I'm an inexperienced cook
>>8339663
What recipes are you expecting? It's raw food. Just get some veggies and eat them.
>>8339669
Not expecting anything rly. If I get nothing I'll just google something and roll with that. Just thought I'd post here because I'm in the mood for chatting with people
raw fooders and vegans and raw vegans and the like look like they have delicious meals but i am lazy n love eating mommys dinner instead of being ethical
Never ate those, it just doesnt exist in my country, but saw that americans eat them a lot and it looks interesting.
Gimme a good recipe to try and make it senpaitachi
just give up, it costs like $80 to buy enough eggs, vegetables, vinegar and spices to fill a jar as big as this one and you eat it in less than two days
>>8339620
What the fuck mane, 10 eggs cost less than 1 euro here, i really doubt it will coadt me more than 5-10 euros with all the ingrrdients.
Also, it doesnt need to be a huge jar, ill just try with 10-12 eggs at first
>>8339620
5 dozen eggs for 3 bucks here m80
What do you eat when you got an upset stomach or heartburn? Need something that wouldn't irritate it.
>>8339479
peanut butter and banana sandwich
Lots of water, rice, toast, something fizzy if it's just stomach ache for the burps of relief
>>8339479
Ask your doctor about dexilin. I've been on it and I literally never get heart burn any more. Used to go through a packet of tums a day
Are vegetarian burgers and hot dogs any good? I'm not a liberal, I'm just trying to cut down on meat so I can stop being such a fat fuck. Any other vegetarian suggestions are welcome. I already cook a lentil curry and meat-free "chili" which are quite good.
Not a vegetarian, but I love veggie burgers.
>>8339473
I find most of the "veggie patties" to not taste very good. Some of them contain a fuckload of questionable additives (read the package!)
However, a large portabello mushroom cap makes a great substitute. Salt & pepper it, then grill it or pan-fry it just like you would a beef patty.
>>8339473
No fan of veggie burgers, but falafels can be awesome. As far as fake veggie sausages go the stuff made by Field Roast tends to be delicious.
