Hide it in my basement and slowly launder it. Tell no one.
>>1576512
wouldn't it take forever to launder that?
So my office usually gives a Christmas gift to everyone in the office with the budget between $250-$500 usually. They try to get something semi-relevant that could be used at work and it is usually tech. Last year was the Amazon Echo year before that it was a iPad.
I have been put in charge of the idea this year. What are some of your suggestions?
Noisecancelling headphones.

You can make cliched schlock and rack in money, and people will always need to be entertained, so why aren't you taking advantage yet?
>>1597584
Market's way too saturated. There are much better opportunities.

Wow somehow that guy manages to pull off a trash 'stache surprisingly well. I wonder if it's the suit?

Ahhh it's a /biz/ starts a thread about industries it knows nothing about thread
One word: Distribution.
You need a distribution channel with a proven revenue stream.
I could easily produce profitable fare: I have the technical ability, I have the experience. However I don't have the distribution method or following (customers).
Content in and of itself is virtually worthless without exposure, to get exposure you either need to buy airtime with a traditional broadcaster or slowly build up a niche audience through targeted advertising, publicity stunts etc. etc. etc.
Then once you have exposure, how do you monetize it?
Youtube has virtually killed content as an income source -- unless you get massive volume like Jenna Marbles or those kids, you can't make enough money. So you have to look at niche audiences and finding other sources of revenue. Home Video and mail order videos for example aren't an option any more, there's too much competition from various makers on Youtube, you need to look further afield.
Also you need to reinvent your value proposition: a comedy or a horror doesn't cut it any more if you're making traditional narrative, it needs to have a gimmick or an experience beyond the watching of the film.
Explain to a robot how to network effectively.

There you go. You're networking with other robots.

When will Ethereum reach Bitcoin's market cap?
I think end of 2017 or beginning of 2018
Ethereum is in a spot where it needs DApps
DApps fulfill the purpose of the system and attracts users. This is a predicament for people interested in short term gains in regards to Ethereum. It's a pretty simple model: Build things and sell them, but it's also hard to accomplish because the platform itself is just not ready yet for widespread adoption.
So, either a DApp gets made that is able to provide great service depsite the platforms current instability (MetaMask is a great example of this, Gnosis and Status.im are too)
or, we have to wait for new technology to be added to the platform that makes development easier or scales the system allowing for faster verifiable transactions.
>>1597496
In addition, shill DApps that fool the existing consumers on Ethereum are a really, really bad look and I wish they would go away.
>>1597365
Ether is a failure.
Paper money is where it's at.
>mfw you people don't even have 100$ in your wallet

How do I get started?
I'm unemployed and need a trickle of income.
How do I start something profitable? How do I know what idea is worth going after? How do I get that one idea? How do I get and stay motivated?
I have a friend who is much younger than me and he started an indiegogo campaign that is at 250% funding with 10 days left. He met his initial goal in less than a week. It's inspiring and disappointing all at the same time.

Buy real estate in London. I promise I won't kill your account for it.
My portfolio currently consists solely of a 401k. I put in 2% of my salary (company doesn't match).
What's the next thing I should be looking at to put my money in that I don't have to actively manage for growth, or at least protection against inflation? Vanguard mutual funds?
>>1597176
set up a roth IRA and contribute the annual max ($5500), just pick out one of the target date funds with vanguard if you want, that should have you set for retirement savings
after that index whatever else you want to save for other major purchases like a house or a car or something
>>1597176
If you don't get a match, Roth > 401K. Only fund the 401k if you max out the Roth.
>just pick out one of the target date funds with vanguard
This is very good advice.

Gold denominated forex accounts that are divided up into 10 of the most reliable high-yielding signals.
They can make well over 50% a year so even if 3/10 go bust due to mis-management you'd still cut a profit.
How much would you pay for a masters degree in engineering?
I'm debating between a state university for a MS in EE for ~25K verses a well known private university for 40k.
The private university has a few additional courses I want, maybe has a better program IDK.
>>1597070
Nothing. Buy the books and read them if your projects require the knowledge.
>>1597097
Engineering doesn't work like that, it's not like software where anyone and their dog can get into a position. It's very structured when it comes to qualifications and the positions you're allowed to enter based upon them.
>>1597105
Corporations don't work like that*
If you need it for a job then pick the better school. I just chose a private university over cheap public school to finish my ME/AE bachelors. I only plan to work for someone else until I can get my PE though, which is why I consider a masters to be useless. My mind may change in the future though.
Hey /biz/ I'm not going in to work tomorrow fuck that, in fact I'm not going in ever again from now on

I quit like that and became a NEET, I needed 3 years to realize that I want to do something else with my life than being a poor loser. I've just slowly started to rebuild my life and it's hard as hell. But it's gonna worth it!
>>1596983
Yeah but how did you get money to live is what I'm worried about lol because the money is just gonna stop after I quit and I still wanna eat but I don't wanna work
>>1596984
Lived at home with my mother and grandparents. I eat what was in the kitchen, basically they paid for everything. I still don't have a real job, not own business or steady income but I'm getting there somehow.
>Youre a finance major? Are you like Jordan Belfort? Haha
Finance majors are extremely useless.

You're not required to have specifically finance degree to do just about anything. You can't say that for accounting or engineering.

Where these guys a necessary evil in the days of mom-and-pop owned local business?
>>1596881
no. they were corrupt as fuck and largely undercut markets and ruined many perfectly legal businesses with corruption
no. just assholes pretty much.
>>1596881
They were a necessary evil in WW2 and WW2 only. The FBI hired the mafia to look for German spies attempting to get onto the docks or even infiltrate any field of work that may put them near the docks.
Nazis had no idea how corrupt NYC unions were, they thought they were dealing with government agents trying to find them, not some mob boss who would take a bat to your knees on mere suspicion because he got 10k per "spy" caught in 1940 USD.
Howdy, /biz/. Any recommended jobs to work or material to read to get my feet wet working in real estate? I'm mostly interested in investment, rather than operations.

thoughts on globalization? is it really that bad?
also, any thoughts on Helena Norberg-Hodge and her reactionary point of view?
>>1596818
I think that it is inevitable. I think stupid people have made it a bad word because they think it means jobs will disappear. Jobs WILL disappear and be replaced by jobs requiring education, training, and high levels of professional skill. I think providing more opportunities for people to get those skills would really help the situation in America. Look at Germany. They are are great example of the populace being prepared for the changing work environment.
I think the distinction between economical, cultural and political globalization should be made.
Economical globalization (free trade) is good, some people will lose jobs but the benefits will compensate for that due to lower domestic prices.
Cultural globalization is usually a bad idea, since many cultures simply do not mix. I think asians mix fairly well in western countries, and tend to do good there. But middle east and northern Africans just do not mix. They're too different and don't benefit western countries at all. In the same way, western immigrant wouldn't benefits north African countries because they would fit in that culture. Also, this is not being racist, as many butthurts assume, but just the fact that some cultures don't mix.
Political globalization causes countries to give up their domestic policies, which can be really bad if the countries in this particular political group aren't very similar. In the EU for example, the north westen states are just so different (economically and culturally) than southern and eastern states, that the same politicy for all will never work.
In short, globalization on trade? Yes. On cultures and politics? Nope.
>>1596818
Global relations is inferior to foreign relations. Trade should be managed on a country-to-country basis. Globalization is bad when it turns into people sticking their noses where they don't belong.
