No clue. Try it and find out. I highly doubt anyone on here has first-hand experience doing that.

A tried-and-true strategy would be the following. I will warn you it is very unethical. But you can tweak a few things and make it an honest job.
-Post negative reviews on your target businesses.
-Print out the reviews highlighting all the bad reviews. Write "this is how new customers are greeted when they look you up" and and mail it to them or bring it in person. Mailing is easier/lazier.
-Sell yourself as an 'online reputation management agency' who can fix their bad image online.
-When they sign your contract, simply edit your poor reviews to positive ones.

Online reputation management has been around for a few years now. It's basically the art of getting positive reviews on places such as Yelp, Google Maps, and other directories. Most people don't do it this unethically, they just find biz with already poor reviews. The best part about is is it's relatively easy marketing and average contracts are for over $1000/month which you can be recurring to manage their rep for the life of the contract.
Simply do some research about starting an online reputation management agency will bring up more relevant info if you're keen on the opportunity. I've seen guides out there that spoonfeed everything from contract templates to prospecting to how to outsource the work.

I'm the business owner, but I fancy a change in direction. I'm currently working in printing and graphics art but the market is saturated, everyone's cutting each other's throats for smaller and smaller margins.
I fancy a change in direction and programming seemed to have a good amount of vacancies for decent money.

I've found a 10 week course in C and C++ so I think I'll give that a go.
