> A writer told me "I didn't get anything done today". Answer: try to do nothing. The best way to have only good days is to not aim at getting anything done. Actually almost everything I've written that has survived was written when I didn't try to get anything done.

Is this true?

>China is to ban all TV content that features Korean stars including dramas, movies, entertainment programs and advertisements

China is to ban all TV content that features Korean stars including dramas, movies, entertainment programs and advertisements according to Chinese media outlets on Sunday.

The ban is viewed as retaliation against Korea's decision to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system.

"We are to ban all Korean entertainment programs under the new guideline that came down from the government," said an ENT Group official, a Chinese Media & Entertainment company.

"However, programs that have been approved by reviews and meet the official guidelines of entertainment programs have been excluded."

Although no official document has been notarized by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, which handles all TV programs in China, broadcast executives are seeking to deal with the ban.

With tension between Korea and China over THAAD continuing to grow, Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, the United States Forces Korea Commander, said the ground-to-air weapon system would be deployed in the next eight to 10 months.

S. Korean shares end lower on institutional selling
http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/2016/11/21/0200000000AEN20161121007151320.html

SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares closed lower Monday as institutions and retail investors sought to reduce risky shares ahead of what local analysts called an imminent U.S. rate hike. The local currency further lost ground against the U.S. greenback.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 8.53 points, or 0.43 percent, to 1,966.05. Trading volume was slim at 213.7 million shares, worth 3.2 trillion won (US$2.7 billion) with losers outnumbering gainers 645 to 168.

The index pared earlier gains as institutions and individual investors turned to massive selling while foreigners remained net buyers.

Institutions offloaded a net 48.63 billion won, while retail investors dumped a net 39.5 billion won. Foreign investors scooped up a net 66.84 billion won, extending their buying streak to a third consecutive session.

"Concerns over a possible U.S. rate hike in December have been around for months. And the U.S. dollar has further strengthened since Donald Trump was elected the next U.S. president, affecting stock markets in most emerging countries," Mirae Asset Daewoo analyst Ko Seung-hee said.

I want to make my own pay site. I cater to a certain porn fetish, and I have hundreds of original pictures and a few videos, with the potential to get thousands more along with some more videos.

I'd like to charge people to view my site and original content, but I have no experience making websites or buying domains. My questions are:

>how would I create a pay site with a wallet and such at a low cost and minimal work involved
>should I design the site myself or outsource the work
>how likely is my website to succeed

what are your interests?

Learn a skill somewhat relevant to one of your interests. This helps as you can contextualise what you are learning and makes it more enjoyable. Most importantly: make sure you can monetise it.

Hey /biz/. I am not entirely sure this is the correct place to ask, but if anyone on this website has extensive college/education knowledge, it'd be /biz/. So I figured I'd toss my question out here for anyone willing to answer.

Here's my situation.
TL;DR: Failed first two high school years miserably, almost perfect grades in last two years.

I didn't do well in high school, I'll spare you the details, but in short life got in the way. I failed my freshman and sophomore years miserably. Due to the circumstances of my living situation during those years, I didn't have the time to attend. Failed every class and had an average GPA of about 0.4. During my Junior and Senior years, I was in a much more stable situation and was able to actually attend my classes albeit at a secondary high school. For those two years, I had a GPA of 3.9. For both of those years, I had phenomenal testing scores, with no less than a 95% on any of the state tests that we were periodically given. My scores during the last two years were the highest in the school, and had bumped up the school average by 2-3% (The secondary high school). However, due to my lack of attendance during the first two years, I simply didn't have enough credits to graduate. I ended up getting my GED and have just been working since.

I am now 20 years old, and have discovered for certain what it is that I want to do in my life, and that is mechanical engineering. My question to you is if I were to take college prerequisites at say a community college and passed those with a similar GPA to my last two years in high school, would I be able to get into a reputable college for my engineering education? Or am I fucked?

Picture unrelated.

I don't see why not, just write a bullshit essay that explains why you failed, they'll eat it up
>>
>>1627879
Absolutely. College admissions has become a more holistic process. If you really thrive at the CC then you will not have problems transferring to a 4 year college.

Congratulations on pursuing Mech. E, a word of warning however: engineering is difficult to learn, and you will most likely have a hard time. This is good, because it means that the amount of crappy engineers is reduced somewhat. Study hard, learn as much as you can, and find something that interests you.
>>
>>1627879
Colleges love to see progress. Your GPA was so bad that you can give them any story you wish to make them impressed with your determination and ability to overcome adverse odds.

You could submit only your GPA for the final years as long as you can interpret directions in such a way that it's allowable (or note somewhere on your application that it's only last two years). I think it's reasonable if you explain in the next steps of the process that 1) a councilor/ mentor gave you this advice to get your foot in the door 2) the last two years are representative of who you've matured into 3) acknowledge that it was a questionable action to undertake. Then position yourself as coming clean which segues into your story of triumph.

I had a similar situation, but couldn't take perspective to best approach my applications, still got into an OK school though

How does a bitcoin transaction on localbitcoin in person go down?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1627855
First, only do business with traders who have high volume and good feedback.

After contacting the person and discussing how much you're buying/selling and for what price you'll agree on a public location to meet. Starbucks is a popular destination as they have free WiFi. Some traders will offer to exchange additional contact info such as a cell number. Serious traders will insist on using an encrypted chat application like Signal or Wickr, others don't care and will communicate over plain SMS.

Be there at the specified time, bring only your phone/cash. Tell the person where you're seated/wearing so they can recognize you. The person selling the bitcoin will ask to see the cash. The cash should be in an envelope, counted in plain view and left on the table. Next the seller will ask for an address. Typically this will be provided via a QR code. The seller will confirm the price and amount you're about to receive. Once the transaction hits the network the seller should pocket the cash.

You will now both wait until the transaction gets at least 1 confirmation, this is usually ~10 minutes. If you do repeat business with someone you might skip this step for convenience but always insist on waiting if it's a large amount. Once you get 1 confirmation say thanks and leave.

Small talk is fine but remember that in-person trades are done largely for anonymity. Never ask or disclose information which identifies you. Do not ask things like "what do you do for a living?", "where are you from?", or "where do you get your bitcoin?". Exchanging first names is fine (providing a fake is cool too) if you wish to do more trades in the future.

Always be punctual, polite, and professional.

Localbitcoins can be a little intimidating at first but after a few trades you'll see it's actually just a bunch of computer nerds hustling on the side.
>>
>>1627855
If they try to get you to do or talk about something illegal, walk.
>>
>>1627878
>First, only do business with traders who have high volume and good feedback.

Infinite regression.

Balance the risk/cost ratio of the exchange. If they have a good reputation, they will most likely be more expensive, but much less risky.

A new trader has to start somewhere, and you may be able to get a better deal, at the risk of getting scammed.

Consider a small transaction for the first meetup to confirm trust. Then have a larger transaction another day. This does not prove that the guy is trustworthy.

Also, consider the types of people that exchange magic meme money online. It's a bunch of nerds who wouldn't hurt a fly.

Worst you can expect is getting scammed. Such is life though.

(No skin in the game for me)

Hey /biz/, how easy is day trading? I have a distant family member who started getting into it and studying it over the summer, and he's already averaging 8k a day with about 50k capital. He said he only studied it for around 3 months and he's already making bank, I'm inclined to not believe him because it sounds too good to be true. My question is should I drop out of school (that's what he did) and start learning this shit?

Trading is the hardest way to make money. And out of the different types of trading, day-trading is the most difficult.
You would be stepping into a cagefight with apex alpha predators. Everything they do is to try to trick you to get you into giving your money to them. Read that again everything you see is done by apex predators and is done to subvert you and take your money.

You're going to need to dedicate the next few years of your life to study and learn and practice.

One of the biggest parts of this is literally (You). For example even if you had the perfect winning playbook with details of exactly what you need to do, you yourself and your psychology will be a big stumbling block. You'll second guess yourself, you'll be too paralyzed to do what you're supposed to do when you're supposed to do it because its very uncomfortable doing it when it looks the scariest(like buying a huge freefall dip falling knife), you'll want to break your rules, you'll want to move your orders even though its wrong, you'll have a great desire to be vindicated as being right so you'll hold on to loosing trades too long, you'll have a burning overwhelming lust to not be patient and wait for the right setup at the right time and you'll end up chasing, you'll have a burning overwhelming lust to not be patient and not stay within safe risk and you'll overleverage. You'll be your own worst enemy. You'll have to discipline yourself and remain disciplined everytime, in order to have the privilege of leaving the 95% of looses and joining the ranks of the elite.

And even after all that you're still guaranteed to lose. Why? Well for one, remember: every trade starts out as a loosing trade, and you have to work your way out of it being a loosing trade. Also you are always going to have losses. Your psychology will fight tooth and nail against this but you'll have to be able to take many many losses. Even the best most elite traders still take many losses.
>>
>>1627783
Thanks for the write up. I appreciate it. It sounds scary but I am very interested/determined in trying to make it work.

So is my family member lucky enough to have joined the elite 5% in just under a year?
>>
>>1627765
drop out of school? No fucking way. If you are dedicated you can study trading while studying at school. Trading is dangerous and for newbies it is way too easy to lose their money.

Anons always go on about gold on here. But what about other commodities like coffee and sugar?
Apparently the developing world struggles to mitigate against changing weather patterns, which occasionally destroys yields. Which makes it more profitable to hold/sell tonnes of produce. Is it worth it?
6 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Would take literal tons to make any noticeable profits. Coffee and sugar are renewable products and when it comes down to it, we can do without it if the economy or produce levels gets that shitty which will be a big factor. I see where you're coming from. At one point salt was worth more than gold. But it'll take a cataclysmic event to get anywhere close to that again.
>>
>>1627720
I hear tell coffee is the most traded commodity after oil by dollar, not sure about sugar but you could invest in the high fructose corn syrup market I guess.

If you wanted to get exotic you could buy some civet coffee futures. Those are the beans pooped out by civet cats or something, very pricey for the real coffee connoisseur.
>>
My fucking phone glitched and I lost my comment 2 hours ago

I think the cats are no option, the ins and outs are way too specialised, so I can't just google the info.

There are two types of coffe beans; arabica (good quality and expensive) and robusta (low quality and cheap). At some point Vietnam held their robusta beans, next year Brazil lost their arabica harvest due to a climate disaster. Vietnam sold their robusta for a higher price, they're now the 2nd biggest coffee producer, specializing in robusta. I just wondered if climate change could make me a millionaire before I become 15 yo lol lmao Kanye2020

If I get my medical degree in South America in 6 years, can I move to the US and work as a M.D. or do my specialization in a US university? I'm European, but where I'm from the Doctor pay isn't even close to the US (80k-200k+ a year)

Yea, I'm pretty much fluent in it. I lived in Spain for the first 12 years of my life and have kept practicing ever since. I know that South America Spanish is a bit different but I would move there for half a year in advance to get used to all of it.

It's just super easy to get into an University and it's free, just now sure how practical a medical degree from there is.
>>
>>1627564
nope. if you want to work in the medical field, you have to study in the US. a degree from south america is literally worth less than the paper it is printed on.
