My cat just got diagnosed with kidney failure. He's been on IV fluids the last 30 or so hours and got most of his friskiness back, but the vet said death is imminent but couldn't pinpoint how long he would have. He's 15 and a half years old. For anyone who's had this happen what's the time frame your cat lasted? I'm not expecting more than a couple days right now, but I guess there are some medicines to keep them comfortable and going a little longer, weeks or maybe months? Just want to set a realistic expectation here since it came on so suddenly in the first place it caught me off guard. I don't even know how long it's been going on behind the scenes since he never showed any symptoms.
my dog went through organ failure and lasted a month after he was diagnosed.
but, if I had known, and I was given the choice (neither of those things happened), I would have let him go as soon as I found out. my dad hid it from me and I had no idea how much pain he was in. he was having seizures, he had a collapsed lung, he couldn't eat, he was incontinent.
please don't make your cat suffer any more, OP. I know it's hard. please let him go. he's hurting.
>>2029052
I'm sorry about your dog. If mine was suffering badly I would have to call it, but right now he seems to be on the mend from the initial blow. He was walking all around and being playful and swatting at leaves, but the vet said there is a risk he could collapse in 48 hours, or not, it just depends if his fluids dip too low. I haven't brought him home yet, but I'm going to stay at home full time to keep an eye on him when he comes back. I really just want a few more nights with him, give him some tuna, make him happy. I guess right now there's no way to know how far his kidneys have gone, but I'm going to get him looked at on Monday when the non-emergency vet opens again.
my cat had liver failure as well, he died during the feeding tube sugery, but his condition declined gradually over about 2 weeks.
How do you train a dog not to sleep in a certain spot? He always lays behind my chair and I am worried about running over him
Teach him to lie down on a mat or his bed whenever you are on the computer.

Ur doggu is shit. Pic related my boy George, a cavalier King Charles spaniel.
Hi /an/ one of my dogs it's dying right know, and the other one it's right beside him, they never did this before. He knows what it's going to happen?

there are no animals with a concept of death.
not even humans.

When I was younger my grandfather was dying of cancer and moved in with us the last two weeks he was alive. Our dog always slept in my parents room. But when he arrived she slept in the hallway right outside his room. The last few nights he was alive she moved into his room and slept next to the bed. Even during the day she was there. We would physically have to move her out of the way to tend to him. Once he died she moved back into my parents room.

After watching a documentary about a theory that they could exist I wonder if they really do exist
You're thoughts?

That wasn't even a theory, it was complete fiction.
Dragons don't exist, there would be undoubtable extremely obvious evidence of them.

Your lack of faith disturbs me
>>2023210
Faith in what? I'm all for certain cryptids existing, but there is absolutely no way an enormous flying fire breathing animal could exist and not be extremely well known.
Anyone know what type of spider this is? Found the sucker in his web near the bottom of an outdoor gate of mine. I live in South Africa.
Couldn't get a better picture because he hid away after the flash
>>2029026
Looks like some sort of widow spider, not sure which one. Would say black widow, but I'm not sure wether those live in South Africa.
>>2029031
He was actually pretty big..Id say his abdomen itself was at least the size of a coin. Leg span probable just under the length of a thumb.
Yeah don't think we get black widows. We do get ones called black button spiders - I think theyre a type of widow. Maybe its one of those
>>2029031
Did some looking around an it seems to me like its a brown button spider. Good call on the widow family

Questions you should ask yourself:
>Why do you want to do this?
>Are you really good at academic coursework (especially science and math)?
>Are you prepared to study long hours in school and work long hours after graduating?
>Do you enjoy lots of physical labor while outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions?
>Do you get easily frustrated?
>If no to the above, still think you can be zen while dealing with the bureaucratic red tape surrounding funding and permitting?
>Will you still enjoy your low-paying marine biology job 8 years into your career?
These questions brought to you by a biologist-anon of the terrestrial sort.
Do you think if you could sneak up on a hibernating bear, you could manage to cut a hole into their hibernation buttplug thing and make it poop itself all over its' den while it continues to hibernate?
Do you think processing the food that fast would make it die of starvation while it hibernated? Or do you think the body would have some failsafe nerve to jostle the bear awake if its' starving?
>>2026017
I can't even.
Seek help.
>>2026020
What? It's not a sexual thing, it's just a curiosity as to how the inner biological mechanisms of hibernation work.

OP misplaces his fleshlight and in the emotional vacuum loses his battle with respectability
Hi /an/. My house seems to have picked up fleas and they're bothering my cat. Where is a good place to pick up flea meds? My vet is cheap but I can't take my cat in the the vet every month just to get that dot of stuff on her neck (it freaks my cat the fuck out and I would prefer to not subject that to her if she doesn't have a health issue).
Now, here's the complication. I know that getting rid of the fleas in the house would be a huge help. Except I have tarantulas and I don't want to risk their lives by bombing the house (even the residue of flea bombs can mess them up).
Any advice?
Pic only slightly related.

Revolution + diatomaceous earth.
Do not use it anywhere near the tarantulas, however; diatomaceous earth works by drying out exoskeletons.
I buy the same drops online for like 200 bucks less than the vet would charge at canadavet.com, the have a US version too I think
fuck I sound like an ad
Vacuum, wash as many of your fabrics as you can and vacuum some more.
And why do you have to take your cat in? I always just bought the dose(s) from either the vet, pet store or online and applied it myself.
I got my daughter a kitten for a Christmas present and all she wants to do is attack my feet and sleep.
She sleeps loads. She's sleeping right next to me as I type this. I don't mind at all. It's quite cozy.
The little fucker will attack anything that moves. But she sleeps so much. I make sure she's well fed, took her to the vet and got her some jabs and a thorough inspection, but why does she sleep so much?
I sleep for about 6 hours. The kitten sleeps double that. Also purring. How do they make that noise?
>>2028899
Cats normally sleep about 15-20 hours a day, with periods of high activity at random intervals during the day, but mostly at night.
It's normal.
No one knows how or why they purr, we think it's something they do with their larynx but we're not sure,
It's a kitten they need sleep like babies. Enjoy the warmth and kitten softness.

>Acting very lethargic, hiding in places, diarrhea with pink stool, one case of vomiting
>Vets don't open up again until the fucking 4th

Bullshit. I had to take my dog to the emergency vet at 10pm on Christmas eve 2yrs ago. Bullshit no one is open.
>>2027681
This. There are emergency vets and on call vets for this very reason, stop being a lazy faggot OP and get your dog help.
Probably wasn't going to take it to a vet anyway. Just using the holidays as an excuse.
Cute as hell I know
