I'm worried about my puppy and thought it'd be worth posting here until I potentially call the vet after work today.

It started on Christmas morning. I've got a 13 week old Boxer and around 6am on Christmas morning he started crying in his crate like crazy. I let him out and he had 2 sizeable poops, both of them were totally normal, though maybe on the slightly softer side, then we went back to bed. We woke up at 10, he had a pee and a little poop, he had a nice big Christmas bone and some other treats, and then had breakfast about an hour or hour and a half later. He ate his whole bowl of food. After breakfast when I took him out to go to the bathroom, he was taking a while to poop, and then after a while finally did. But when I went to pick it up, it was almost totally liquid and had blood in it. Naturally I was freaking out for the rest of the day about it.

I gave him lunch around 4pm but he wouldn't eat it. I tried to give it to him again around 6:30, and after a lot of prodding he ate a little bit of it, but not much, maybe a quarter of the bowl. At this point I've been super freaking out because for a good portion of the afternoon he was just dead tired. I left his food out, which I normally wouldn't do, and around 9 he picked off most of the remainder. He pooped soon afterward, it was huge and super soft, but no blood. At 12 he had another poop before bed, soft again but no blood.

It's now 8:30am and he just ate all of his breakfast, and I'm bringing him out to use the bathroom soon. I'll come back and let you guys know if there was any blood or diarrhea. I think I'm going to have a family member keep a close eye on him today while I'm at work, and if he's not any better when I'm done, I'll take him to the vet.

What do you guys think of this? Could something be wrong or am I just over analyzing every tiny thing? Other than him getting into my girlfriend's dog's food the day before (a mix of wet cat food and cheese) I can't think of an explanation for this

>>
Today's first poop was perfect, no diarrhea or blood at all!
>>
>Could something be wrong or am I just over analyzing every tiny thing?
probably both. if he's eating again and you don't see any more blood, he's probably okay.

was it bright red blood? he could have torn his butthole slightly pooping so much.

eating wet cat food and cheese could explain it.
>>
>>2023803
It was pretty bright red. There were two separate puddles of diarrhea, the larger one was fine, but the smaller one (about the size of a beer bottle cap) was pretty much pure bright red.

I just got home, I had someone watching him all day, he ate all of his lunch and had a normal poop around 1, then had another one just before I got home. He also doesn't seem as tired as he was yesterday. Hopefully this means he's alright

It'll never be happy, it's too beta.
>>
>>2023872
Get at least a 5 to 10 gallon, 10 gallon preferably, give it some company like ghost shrimp or African dwarf frogs, and feed it pellets or flakes. To see if they're happy they'll be swimming happily and not laying on the bottom.

I was eating some ginger cookies and a piece fell off, my dog snatched it and ate it, is ginger harmful for her? Pls advice, it's too late at night for a vet

Those cookies would contain such a low amount that I highly doubt it would do anything even if it was toxic.

No, ginger isn't toxic to dogs. A quick google search could have solved this for you.

It varies.

Ring various vets and get a few quotes. Then look into care credit if needs be/PDSA if you're UK based.

Why do people get so obsessed with birds? Like amateur bird watchers I mean. They'll drive 8 hours each way just at the chance to see a new bird, and sit out in the cold for hours until they do. What is the fascination, can someone explain it to me? I think birds are okay but I wouldn't wake up at 4am to go sit in the snow to look at a goose. I ask because a lot of the people where I work go apeshit for the hobby and I ask why they like birds and no one can really explain it. Yet there are some that get up at dawn every day to go do it.

I've gotten up at 4am to look at geese but my intention was to shoot them with my shotgun and not a camera.
>>
>>2023411

Its like pokemon for the real world.

There's something incredible about seeing a bird that only a few people will ever see.

But your question is silly, why would people fly across oceans, travel for hours for a look at an elephant they can see in a zoo?

Bug collectors are even worse.
>>
I'm obsessed with birds but I've only gone out of my way once or twice to view some, such as snowy owls that decided to show up in a large group. It was like an hour drive for that, and another drive was to go watch some seals. My other bird watching adventures just goes along with hiking/taking walks, because I like to be outdoors. I also stop to watch deer, moose and bears(from a distance, of course).

I just like the outdoors and I guess bird watching is just similar to sitting by your fishtank. Its just nice to look at it.

Some I just got this puppy for christmas. As far as breed I'm not too sure. The givers said she had a quarter wolf in her and one of her parents was lab.

You guys have any tips as far training and raising her? I have a sort of companionated-take-her-most-places idea for her.

She's not a quarter wolf. Try clicker training lots of sites
>>
>>2023401
Would you say clicker training yields better results as opposed to treat based rewards. Should I do both or is it one of those trial and error sort of things

Tie it to a random streetlight, up high.
Let it bark for hours.
The rest of the town is now zombie-free as they all gather below the piƱata.

sup /an/,

Anyone got any tips on a first time owner of a herding breed? Border collies, cattle dogs etc. I have an 8 week old kelpie pup, grew up with labradors and it's been very different so far.

My main issue is nipping, especially at heels, hands and at clothing. I've been redirecting her to a toy (ball, tug toy, kong) but it doesn't always work especially when she is hyper. When she bites me I yell out "OW" really loudly and she stops about half of the time.

I have never used physical discipline on any of my dogs, but I need to establish I'm the boss before she gets bigger. Any tips that don't involve hurting her?

Usually in the rare cases where my dogs have bitten me, all I had to do to make them stop was give them a savage beating.
>>
You're already doing what you should be, but there's a few more things you can do to get her to stop:

When she nips you and you say "OW"/yelp, you should also make it clear that playtime/interaction stops when she does this.

This means that if you're playing and she gets nippy, you yelp and then leave the room and ignore her completely for a moment. It doesn't take long for them to realize that if they want playtime and attention, they can't bite.

Alternatively, she's all hyper and you are walking through the house and she's chasing after your heels and nipping at you: do the yelp/"OW" thing, then just stand still until she moves on. A moving target is fun and interesting and that's what compels her to chase and nip. If you stop moving and stand motionless and boring (again, ignoring her) it's not fun anymore. She'll eventually figure this out.

Just continue doing what you're doing, implement the above tips, and be consistent. I know it can be kind of a pain in the ass dealing with nippy puppies but she'll figure it out and grow out of her nippy stage.

Good luck with your puppy! I love herding breeds.
>>
Scruff them severely, force them onto their back, spray them with the smelly shit, and then put them outside

Stuff like that

You're talking about a breed that's literally been bred for hundreds of years to specifically herd livestock, which involves nipping and biting them to get in line, so good luck lol

I have one and my only problem is that he's inexhaustible, fucking thing can run for 3 hours straight a day and not be tired, so he gets really whiny about going outside even after the point a normal dog would be dead tired

I'm planning on getting a snake in a couple of years, maybe after my cats have aged (one is 4, one is approximately 3) so the snek doesn't have any risks with the cats, or the other way around.
Anyway, I want to know, what kind of snake would you recommend to a reptile newbie? What kind of care would it require?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Snake will have to be kept away from the cats regardless of their age.

Colubrids are generally the easiest to start with; corns, kings, milks. Small boids; Kenyan sand boa, eosy boa. Ball pythons often get mentioned but, due to their eating habits, some new keepers get frustrated with them.

Google care sheets for each species.
>>
>>2023306
*Rosy boa. Not eosy.
>>
>>2023283
Those two animals don't mix well at all. They will need complete separation at all times. If the snake is too small the cat will try to kill it and if the snake is too big the snake will try to kill the cat.

tl;dr version: look into ball pythons and corn snakes and branch out from there
