My cat and dog both died and my mom has made the decision that instead of replacing them, we'll just go with an animal-free house so she doesn't have to worry about feeding times and medicine and cleaning up and all the shit that comes with animal care.

How do you guys get your animal fix when you live someplace they aren't allowed? I've found myself wandering through the pet store a lot recently, just to interact with the dogs that lazy owners don't leash and let just run up to you.

Move out.

Alternatively, when I was a kid/teenager all we had a dog but I figured out if I 'found' a stray dog, kitten, or suddenly had some animal dumped on me then my parents would feel too bad to make me get rid of it. In my defense, people really did just leave animals in my yard or doorstep sometimes and I did find other homes for plenty of kittens I raised, returned lost dogs, didn't have tons of animals/wasnt a hoarder, I kept shit clean and paid for their stuff, etc.
Alternatively if your mother doesn't go in your room often, you could probably get away with a small animal.
>>
>>2109729
I should also say that if it is your mom who was taking care of the animals and paying for everything, then you're shit out of luck and shouldn't bother getting any.

Also go volunteer at a shelter. You could possibly convince your mother to foster a cat or dog because it's temporary.
>>
>>2109715
Well I'd take on some responsibility. Why can't you help your mother out?

She can deal with the medical things since I'm assuming she has the money/insurance. While you can feed, walk, play with, clean up after, and so on.

I know when I was younger and my parents threatened to get rid of my cat. I decided to step up and take over his feeding and cleaning.

It was only until later that I learned my parents are good pet bros and had no intentions of ever getting rid of an animal they took responsibility over. They just used it as a threat to get me to help out since the cat was for me.

I wasn't even mad when I found out.

My cat has been trying (and sometimes succeeding) to eat paper and sometimes plastic. All I can find on google about it is vague bullshit about "digestion issues" and stuff.
Anyone know what specific problems this can cause? Or why she's dong it? pic related, it's her

Its just a thing cats do. Mine likes to eat rubber bands, qtips and tinsel so I can't have either in the house anymore. Her litterbox was really in the christmas spirit one day.

She likes to lick plastic bags but doesn't eat them. Just make sure you don't leave that shit out.

Hello, anon from other boards here. Found this tiny cat outside under a bush, screaming in the rain. No sign of any adult mother around. This cat is very small and skinny. Anything I can do for him/her before I can bring it to a hospital tomorrow? It was shaking its ass off so im trying to keep it warm. Really trying to keep it alive. Poor bastard.

I hope you're just doing it for the photo, but put the fucking blanket on top of the poor thing. Put it in a shoebox and loosely drape the blanket over the top so it's not exposed to the cold air.

Fair warning...it's probably not in great shape and is obviously starving.

What the fuck is this thing. I found a bunch of them dead or dieing on the beach of Monterey CA during low tide.

This one next to the starfish was alive. It's on it's back in the pick. It's back looks like a redish rock.

What is this animal that sucks at living?

>>
>>2109663
Ok OP after some searching I would guess it's a gumboot chiton, idk why all the dying though, if you really want to you can look up a recent tide chart for your area and maybe there have been some extreme tides that left the chitons deserted or washed them away. That's my best guess

Why is my cat so mean? He cries when he's picked up and every time I try and pet him he bites (not hard) and lightly swats me away. He rubs up against me sometimes and once in a blue moon he'll let me pet him, but usually he's really distant and hates being touched ;-;

is he fixed? I heard cat's stop liking affection when they're fixed, i'd stop wanting to be affectionate if my balls were snipped too
>>
>>2109600
Having no testicles makes you more like a girl and girls like affection when it benefits them.
OP, offer you cat a free meal or something so he thinks he's taking advantage of you when you're hugging him, that's how females work
>>
did you ever forced him to hold him or pet him? if they feel uncomfortable they won't forget that soon and dislike it. especially when they are small u have to let them if they don't want.

anybody got issues with introducing puppy to an old dog ?

here's my situation:
currently living in new flat and bought a lab retriever (female)
i have a 9year old female (sterilized, never had puppies) german shepherd in my family house (with huge yard)

im visiting family about twice a months for the weekends, and the german shepherd is very agressive towards the lab. as in she tried to bite her twice, not playful or "dominance bite" but literally tried to murder her (managed to pull the pup away). i havent let them loose around each other ever since. the shepherd is always barking, growling and sometimes squeling when she sees her.

i have no idea what to do.

things i tried:
first meeting was at neutral ground
both dogs are getting same amount of affection
several walks with both dogs at the same time (a bit better than at the house)
they've spend the night at house together but in different rooms
currently im swaping them, as in one is outside one inside.

also what might be important the german shephard never had much interaction with other dogs, she spent first 3 years with another female german shepherd, which was a bit hard on her, so maybe that influenced her ?

>>
>>2109515
You're going to have to get rid of either the dog or the puppy.
>>
>>2109522
thats not really an issue, i can just NOT bring the puppy to the old house, she can stay at my inlaws, or at home with wife's sister.

or i can just keep swapping them inside/outside

i live in the us on a pond with lots of mallard ducks. is it legal to kill them to eat? are males or females better tasting?

they are very friendly and i could easily catch one with my bare hands or a net, i would not need to use a gun.

no, their population in western europe is declining for some reason so you'll probably get into trouble.
>>
>>2109479
Yes you can, but check your local laws regarding when they are in season, bird limit, non lead shot, and make sure you have all license and tags.
A hunter education and gun safety course should be your first priority. You also need to learn how to prepare your kill. When all of this is sad and done you can sit down to a wonderful meal of gamey, greasy chicken. You can make wild duck taste pretty good, but that also takes experience.
Basically anon, have somebody teach you how to hunt. Google can't tell you everything.
>>
>>2109569
i don't want to 'hunt', though. i don't want to shoot a gun (i don't even own one, and i've never shot a real one).

i understand i need a bunch of licenses and shit if i want to shoot these things. but i don't want to shoot them. i can pretty much just walk up to one and grab it by the throat, then kill it in whatever the most humane way is.

my question is, would this be legal? or do i still need all these hunting licenses and gun licenses even if i don't have a gun and won't use one?

Why wasn't this ordered before? I'm kind of salty because I feel if this was any other dog that was over 30lbs it would have long been put down. Are they just going easy on her because she's old?

So growing up, i always felt bad for my dogs who were spayed or neutered. I decided to go natural for my first (on my own) dog. Should i rxpect drastic differences than i am used to? Anything extra i need to know about/care about? Was gonna get a boy dog probably.

they'll do anything possible to escape, you cannot leave them unattended in a yard ever. humping. more likely to be aggressive with other dogs. costs more to license them. some places won't let you rent if they aren't fixed. some dog parks won't allow entry. can never let them off leash unattended/around other dogs

and stop anthropomorphizing your pets, it's retarded. they don't know, only you do
>>
>>2109303
there's literally no reason to feel bad for them. They have no concept of masculinity or femininity, anything that you might see in them like that is purely you projecting your own ways of thinking on to an animal. Unless you're a registered breeder, you should always spay/neuter your dogs and cats. It drastically improves their behavior in almost every case, and eliminates any chance of them developing genital cancer or other diseases related to the reproductive organs.

They're animals, they can't reason in the same way we can. They don't care if they have balls or ovaries as long as you take good care of them. And neutering/spaying early on (not too early, though) can prevent a lot of behavioral issue later in life. Intact male dogs usually aren't as calm, tend to be more aggressive, are more prone to annoying behaviors including leg humping and such, and can be territorial, as well as being prone to roam. Females will go into heat and will also be prone to wandering, and can draw in other intact dogs into your property. On top of that, you could wind up with puppies if you're not really careful. Nobody needs more unwanted puppies around.

Again, other than you projecting your own masculine insecurity, there is literally no reason not to spay or neuter your dog, unless you have gone and gotten your purebred dog registered and plan to breed for profit or other means. If you're just looking for a pet, get it fixed.
>>
I got my dog fixed at 18 months. The only problems we had were that other dogs didn't like him. he got jumped a couple of times (no damage thankfully). also, humping. not other dogs, but his bed and the legs of the women in our house, especially if they were menstrusting - he would be relentless. he got neutered about 2 months ago and both of those issues have been fixed. He plays well with other dogs now with no fear and he doesn't hump unless I'm playing and he gets overstimulated, though it's easy to redirect him.

I understand it's a choice but the pros of neutering greatly outweigh the cons. if you're not planning on breeding your pup there's no reason to keep him intact
