Was leaving my apartment today when I walked past a pigeon stood in the middle of a pavement.
As I walked past it it tried scrabbling away and I noticed this really weird clacking noise coming from its movement. Looked down at it and it had these MASSIVE mud coloured balls on the end of its toes.

So anyway, I cornered the thing, took it back to my apartment, put it in the sink with some hot, shallow soapy water and let pigeon-friend soak his or her feet for about 30 minutes.
I wrapped him in a towel and got to work with some tweezers and nail scissors slowly and carefully removing them from his toes. These things were hard as rock so it took me about 90 minutes.

Turns out apparently its something that can happen to birds that spend a lot of time on the ground (pigeon looked like a fledgling). Poop and mud and dirt can begin building up on its feet and calcify.

I wanted to ask whether anybody else had seen this before and if I'd decide to ignore it instead whether they would have come off on there own eventually?
There isn't much information about this on the internet, but damn they were wrapped around its poor little toes pretty badly.

This board never ceases to amaze me.

You should've licked the poop balls off.

I don't think pigeons are pests. They're very intelligent and make great pets when domesticated, and they mate for life. Humans carry more disease than pigeons do.

While I was having dinner 2 guinea pigs babies were born a couple of hours ago... when I come back they had no hands, no legs and the eyes were eaten by hords of ants. Last time a male escaped and made out with a female it was the cats... the guinea pigs were still coming out being born and the feral street cats were already with their mouth wide open waiting for them to be born straight into their mouth. The other time were the neighbours children... educated as disobedient wild beasts grabbed the babies and threw them at the wall while playing.

I'm getting bitterness after bitterness with this already. It's the first time I have guinea pigs and no one ever told me anything about ants... I'm learning through mistake after mistake, but I don't like it because it's costing the babies lives.

How can I keep them safe from this and any obvious unexpected dangers that I might not still have encountered?

my wife is hysterical, doesn't want them inside the house... she loves to play with them but doesn't like when they pee or poop or cry or need food or cleaning.

The people that don't know this, will never know. Stubborn, close-minded people that watch the drama-infused news on TV daily or had some personal experience with a Collie everyone said was a pit bull.

Stupid people will always be around. Just consider us lucky that there are a lot of people who know the truth.

It's the tail not the jaw. Those suckers can clear off a coffee table when they get excited.
>>
https://www.avma.org/KB/Resources/LiteratureReviews/Pages/The-Role-of-Breed-in-Dog-Bite-Risk-and-Prevention.aspx

>Owners of dogs that are identified by the community as ‘pit bull type’ may experience a strong breed stigma,44 however controlled studies have not identified this breed group as disproportionately dangerous. The pit bull type is particularly ambiguous as a “breed” encompassing a range of pedigree breeds, informal types and appearances that cannot be reliably identified.

If I owned a dog, I would cry twice as hard if it died. All the pets that I had were my parent's property though.

But I do understand your loss, it is like losing a relative you once had.. Even if it had the mental capacity of a 5 year old.

Discuss anything aquarium related here, including inhabitants, decor and issues.

Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.

Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size
-parameters
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

What would be required to achieve a marine/freshwater tank that can stably run water change-less? I'm curious, hypothetically.

>water changes are about removing nitrates
>de-nitrifying bacteria remove nitrates and convert it to Nitrogen
>use a deep sand bed or fuge with a massive anoxic environment to cultivate de-nitrifying bacteria and cycle it until it can remove nitrates

What else would be stumbling blocks and why isn't it this easy?

Holy shit need help, /an/! What do I do at this point? Three days ago it was fine. Two days ago I had fish swimming kinda irregularly. Today I have my school of corcats swimming near the top of my tank. In a matter of three days I went from everything is fine to oh fucking shit. Water change did just about nothing as of 6 hours ago. API Ph Lower kinda helped?

Do I do a full water change or what?

>TL;DR Ph level too high
