Found this little guy on my leg, I took a few pictures because I thought his colours looked beautiful (some more below)
Does anyone know what kind of bug this is?
cambodian blur bug
Sup /an. Can you guys help me out and tell me what the hell this is :(
It's a Flysquito
>>2115241
Thats a bug right there, thats what that is, mhm
I dunno, but it looks absolutely malarious.
I just killed a fly and... it felt wrong. Like I killed something just because it was bothering me? I don't know how I feel about that. Give me your 2 cent from your morale compasses.
Pic unrelated.
I had maggots in my kitchen bin on the weekend. I didn't notice until I had killed at least 25 flys with my bare hands. then the mystery of the endless flys made sense. You shouldn't feel bad OP, flys aren't worth any more than the molecules they're composed of. If you hadn't killed it, it would be dead soon anyway just because it's a short-lived vermin.

I don't like killing bugs that can't physically hurt me, personally. Spiders and similar? Yeah, I'll smash them if they're in my house; don't want to roll on one while I sleep and get bit. I almost cried because I stepped on one of those giant millipedes once, though. I've killed plenty of mammals and didn't really give a shit, but the millipede just made
me sad.
Only wrong if it attacked you. (Lie)
Hey /an/ i have the extra money laying around and would like to get a snek. Im looking to spend anything up to 200-300. i have owned snakes and other reptiles before so just about any snek will do besides the venemous or insanely big ones. I was looking at brazilian rainbow boas. What kind of snek would /an/ choose?
Also what are the most preferred sites in which you order reptiles from?
Where do you live?
I've gotten a few snakes through kingsnake.com classifieds...You can google most sellers there and find out if they're good people pretty easily.
I would make sure you have a good set up first, which honestly would probably be a good chunk of your budget.
Here is a link to the rainbow boa area on kingsnake.
http://market.kingsnake.com/index.php?cat=62
I would personally suggest avoiding the big reptile sells, like big apple, and especially backwater. Try to find a breeder.
So for enclosures, I know a few of the snake people here, myself included have bought stuff from animal plastics. Mainly because they're cheap and of decent quality.
http://www.apcages.com/home/
I will warn you, if you order something custom it can take months, my first order I got within a month, my second order was around 4 months. (the specific carpet python cage they sell).
They ship them disassembled, but if you have a drill driver, they're pretty painless to put together.
I hope that helps.

I wanted to get myself a pet ball python, but I was wondering if a simple set up is fine when it comes to the enclosure? Most of what I seen are these super complex cages with tons of stuff in it. But most of the "care guides" I've read from local pet stores say simple is ideal.
Hi /an/
Lately, I've been seeing people with dogs, or hearing about people's dogs, and they sound like really amazing, loving pets. I never really considered a dog for myself, but now am wondering if I should adopt one some time in the future.
Here is my situation.
>have a pet bunny
>depressed and have eating disorder, I wonder if a dog would be able to help at all with this
>unsure about housing situation in the near future, I'd only get a dog once it was certain that I'd be able to keep it for its entire life
So, I know nothing at all about dogs and want to see if I'd be fit for one someday. What are good ways to figure out what sort of dog would be good for me, without just getting one? None of my friends have dogs. :(
>>2114741
A dog will help you with depression definitely
>>2114843
Or the responsibility makes OP hate and neglect it. It seems to be a sort of trend with people who have never owned dogs. Add mental illness into the picture and it shakes up their 'routine' and irritates them.
OP you can try fostering a dog. It's temporary and you'll learn as you go without the commitment of having it during it's entire life unless you adopt it.
this one is my favorite
Getting one of these badboys on Saturday. Need a good name for him.

You fucking retard, why do you think they're endangered? Logging wiped out most of their habitat. They were well adapted to a very stable ecosystem that existed for millions of years until humans came in and bulldozed it all down. Just because they don't do well in captivity doesn't mean they are "worthless". Go apologize to your friend and admit your stupidity.
Name something that can fuck up a hungry Kodiak.
A car. Rabies. Lack of food. Mange. A few angry wolves.

I was at a reptile show yesterday and was shopping around with a friend who bought a cool tiny tortoise. While we were leaving at the end of the show there was a vendor trying to offload a bunch of terrariums cheap. Got an exo terra mini-tall for 40 bucks, but I'm not sure what to put in it. I have between 2-4 months to set the terrarium up before getting the animal, but I'm not sure what to get. I'm quite partial to lizards, and am not particularly interested in any insects. Would a crested/banded/day do well in something so small? Or is there something else cool to put in the tank?
tl;dr
Got a cheap ass exo terra, what do I put in it?
>>2113342
No vertebrate would be comfortable in that indefinitely. Its really more for Arthropods. I guess one anole or a baby chameleon would get by but i suggest you use it for a mantis, arachnid or other buggo. My amblypygid has same habitat
>>2113359
Damn, the wife would kill me if I kept a bug. I was hoping some small species of arboreal gecko could live there. Maybe I'll just have to try to sell it and pick something up bigger.
Protip: get a baby anything and get your girl to like it, then get a new tank on craigslist when hes noticeably bigger
Any beekeepers here? What can you tell me about beekeeping as a hobby?
CH here. We have about 10 colonies, each of which lives in one of pic related (which we have a own little hut for on the farm, immensely useful, can keep tools and stuff in it). I guess it's kinda fun to do as a hobby, but you need to know what you're doing (= visit some courses and read a book), and there are a few points around the year when you have to actually do things (treatment against varoa etc.).
The by far best part is actually getting your own honey. Commercial honey is like dog poop, I've no idea what the hell they're doing wrong.
My dad's a large scale bee keeper. Last time I checked, he was running about 100 hives. He does not do it as a hobby, but as a career. Honey sells really well, but he makes more from the hives and frames he makes. I help him sometimes. It's a lot of work if you are going to do it right, so much can wrong from the weather, to pest, and more importantly, neighbors. Most people are afraid of bees and put out traps and poison to get rid of them.
>>2112259
If you are going to start bee keeping, make sure you do it in a location away from people who aren't understanding. Ask more specific questions and I'll answer if i can. As for bad tasting store bought honey, it's because they mix it with syrup to stretch out they honey. Even if it says 100% real honey, they are still legally allowed to mix so much syrup in it.
Hey, post some cool looking animals. I don't give a shit if it's a mammal, a bird, a fish, fucking insects or some fuck, I don't know. Just do it.
This faggot's called an okapi. It's in the same family as the giraffe except it's completely worthless because its neck is short. It COULD be interesting if its stripes covered its whole body like a zebra or some shit but no, it's just on its legs and fucking ass, look at this goddamn poofer.
This retarded cunt is a bearded vulture. It's too fucking stupid to eat normal food so it eats bones instead.
Lying prick doesn't even have a beard, more like a fu-manchu, fucking ching chong nip nong weeaboo trash.
This poor fuck is called a blobfish and all it does all day is swim around the ocean floor and feel fucking sorry for itself. It knows it doesn't deserve to live but it's like that one freakmonster from the end of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, it's too slow to bash its head into the wall to kill itself, and no fucking way it's going to manage to hold a knife with those shitty baby fins any time soon to slit its wrists. It doesn't even know it doesn't have wrists to slit. Asshole.
I don't actually know if blobfishes are assholes, but they probably are.
Just got finished building this terrarium for my beardie and he's in love! Had him in a small ter for a while due to financial troubles but after months he's finally happy. Just thought I should share this happy beardie
Also, General enclosure thread
Post your viv/terrarium/aquarium for your creatures
And for those curious,
-looking to move his fixture into the tank just need hinges
-contemplating getting another basking light due to the size of the terrarium idk what do you guys think?
> what do you guys think?
I've never kept beardies so I don't know much but the viv looks a tad sparse. Like a couple more pieces of decorative terrain would go a long way. Maybe another hide or two? The tile substrate seems like a great idea though
>>2110074
Oh yeah forgot to mention just finished it yesterday
Definitely looking to add decor but I just wanted to move him out of his small enclosure immediately. Poor thing was looking so cramped :/ main issue was the basking rock which is an absolute need since the terrarium is so tall
And yeah tile is slate! I'd heard good things and looks good too
Old thread got archived

Cat-owners: how do you feel about your cat making human friends?
I have befriended many cats on my walks and their owners seem okay with it. I'd like to hear your thoughts.
>>2100470
My cats are indoors, but I'm always pleased when they decide they like someone. One of my cats is very shy, so it's almost exciting when she decides to come out and sit on someone's lap. And it makes that person feel special. My other cat is very friendly, and I feel like she makes guests feel welcome when she greets them with nuzzles.
I tend to befriend cats on walks, too. Sometimes a specific cat joins me on my walks until I reach what I guess is the edge of her territory. I think if the owners had a problem with their cats interacting with other people, they probably wouldn't let them roam.
