>be leaving college campus for the day

What are you so upset about? Just give the dog, and maybe the owner, some behavior modifying liquid refreshment.
>>
>>2116169
The dog just needs to be spayed and some proper training. The owner needs some behavior modifying liquid refreshment since there's no one to remove her ovaries and teach her to be a decent person

So is it okay for me to put this in my terrarium for my beardy? I was told by the pet store people not to put it in until he grows bigger because he might try to eat it, but I have heard people say that pet store people don't really know what they are talking about when it comes to beardies. I have had him for almost a month now (i got him as a baby).
What do you guys think? Is it okay to go ahead and put it in?

Can someone help me with dog walking?

I rescued a pooch as my first dog ever back in Feb. He is a hound mix, and the hound comes across strong in his temperament. He is stubborn as hell, super independent, and kind of dumb. To say the least, he has been a really difficult dog, and a hard dog for a first time owner.

The biggest issue I have with his walks is he refuses to pay attention to me. He goes into his own little world and focuses on scent trails. Sometimes he'll be walking in heel like a star, but then he'll pull to sniff a spot and explore. If I try to get him to move, he digs in with every ounce of his strength (and he is strong as hell).

Another issue is he gets excited around dogs. I can only control him through strength with thr lead. He isn't aggressive... he just really wants to play and say hello.

So: 1) Am I doing anything wrong by letting him explore on his own accord? So long as he isn't putting either of us in danger, is there anything wrong with letting him stop to sniff, run to a spot to sniff, or explore? I know the Dominance Theory stuff is not true, but am I teaching him badly or being a bad owner by giving him a ton of freedom to do what he wants? Will he try to run the show, or should I just let him have fun, and learn to chill?

And 2) how do I fix the dog issue? I am thinking that maybe getting him a playmate would help. Would another dog do him good?

why would you get a dog if you don't know or are unwilling to learn how to handle one

your thought process shouldn't be "oh if something goes wrong I'll make a thread on 4chan", go drop him off at a shelter so he can get a proper home
>>
>>2115836
Where the duck did you even infer that? Did you even read my thread? The progress I've made teaching him to walk on a leash has been massive. When I first took him home, he was borderline unwalkable he pulled so bad. His foster home never took him for walks, and his othwr home he was outside 100%. Now he walks acceptably, especially once he gets into a groove, outside of the scent trail obsessions.

What I am asking is if I need to be super stern with him and put out "no sniffing allowed except when I say you can", or if being lax with him and letting him got off and explore on his own terms is fine.
>>
>>2115844

Ignore that person. /an/ hates discussions of any kind.

You should take him to obedience school. You'll learn very valuable skills about how to control your dog.

Getting another dog will NOT help. Don't get another dog until you are confident with your training and handling skills and your other dog is doing better. If you have a stubborn, defiant dog, you will find that if you get another dog you'll have 2 stubborn, defiant dogs.

I just adopted this new cat, he's just sitting in the corner. I know it could take a week for him to adjust, but it's really unsettling to see him crammed in a corner like that.

Anyway, I'm still thinking of what to rename him, he's 2 years old, not sure what breed but he's got the tuxedo look going on.

>>

Also, feeding times instead of free feeding and playing with him will help him adjust to you and the new place much quicker.
>>
>>2115570

It will take at least a week and up to 2 or 3. Just let him do what he wants and leave him alone. If you have an extra bedroom or quiet office or something that would be the best place for him.

its been 4 months now. I didn't realize my dog could climb onto my desk. I had some sleeping pills on there. she got a hold of some, and by the time I realized something was wrong and took her to the nearest animal emergency clinic she was already halfway gone when I got there. She died because of my carelessness. I thought I'd be over it by now but I think about her everyday. She used to greet me as soon as I got home and now coming home to silence makes me break down sometimes. I'm sorry for blogpost. I want another dog from a shelter. Be honest with me.. Should I even allow myself this? my carelessness cost her life. She was only 3. I miss her everyday. id make sure it wouldn't happen again, I can't let it.

sorry for blogpost. give me an honest thought.

It was an accident and you had no idea she could reach your desk. It wasn't your fault and you have to accept that, even if it may be hard. Now you're more fully aware about puppy/dog proofing, which will only serve future dogs you have well.

It's stupid to beat yourself up too much over this. I think you should get another doggo.

In return, could you give me input to my blogpost? thanks

In most circumstances where an animal dies because of someone being careless I'd just tell you to kill yourself.

But that one's kind of eh, I've had small dogs for years and they usually don't even try and climb up on surfaces unless there's a literal lump of meat up there and it's not like dogs are known for their desire to consume shitloads of random pills.

Just be more careful about leaving medicine out in the future, same shit applies to having kids.

Everyone makes mistakes. You sound like you'd make a better pet owner than a lot of people that have dogs.

Have you done any research on the breed besides the hypo-allergenic meme? Sphinxs are very high maintenance.
>>
>>2115536
Yeah, I know there's a lot that's involved as far as hygiene. I'm not too worried, I had a very high-maintenance cat for a while. Is there anything better you would recommend in terms of hypoallergenic breeds?
>>
Sphynxs aren't necessarily hypoallergenic FYI. My friend's sphynx triggers my allergies.

Didn't know if this belongs in /an/ or /adv/, so I'll try here first.

I'm in a bad situation. My sick 65 year old father really wanted a dog. So we got a puppy 3 days ago. Since we got her, we've been pretty much fighting nonstop and our relationship has taken a nose dive.

Our problem is this: he has raised dogs before, and thus is completely disinterested in any advice on how to raise this new dog. His way is the best way. The puppy even came with a 15 page manual of basic training techniques from the humane society. He refuses to read it. He's utterly convinced he knows better.

His training includes yelling and sometimes hitting her when she goes inside. Ignoring scheduled feeding (feeding her double in some sittings because she will eat that much). Shoving his hand into her mouth when she nips and yelling "no". Not using any commands. Locking her outside for 20 minutes when she goes inside out of frustration, and feeding her constant treats for no reason.

As for me, I want to raise her exactly according to the manual. Positive reinforcement, very rare treats, moving poops outside, using command words for excreting, etc.

I refuse to help him train her badly. I also won't train her my way while he trains her his way, since I'm pretty sure that'll just confuse her. I'm fine with cleaning up poops and helping exercise her, but beyond that I won't entertain his training methods. I'm also trying to get a job and move away, meaning I won't be around to raise her.

Finally, it's his dog; not mine. I picked it out (he would have gotten a random from a kill shelter if I didn't step in and help choose). It was agreed beforehand that I would help raise it. Since the pup has gotten here, he's done 70% of the work because I'm too frustrated with his methods and don't want to confuse her anymore than she is. We've already spent about $800 on her.

What should we/I do in this situation? I really need urgent advice.

Don't worry too much about it. He knows what he's doing. Actual experience is more useful than a book you got from the humane society

You're retarded. Should have thought of that before getting your equally retarded dad a puppy.
Enjoy knowing you're the reason a dog has to live through all this.

Does anyone have an Idea what I could use as a hide for my snake? Should look relatively natural if possible

Can be a store-bought one or home-made, I just need suggestions.

What is your favorite type of cave for your snake?

pic kinda related, the type I do not want (unsuitabe for a display cage in my opinion)

Just buy pic related and glue bark to it..

Seconded. Snakes love those things. They are dark and cozy and perfect for them.

Just dress them up if you want them to look more natural. Half bury in substrate, couple rocks on top, etc. and you won't even see the plastic.
