Mice, Hamsters, Gerbils, Guinea Pigs, and other assorted small mammalia
Rats welcome too once their current thread croaks

Why only mammals, senpai?
Also, why did you choose to call them pocked pets? I mean, they're small, but being garried in a pocked would only stress them.
So anyway, I have a question to ask to kick off the thread. I had I thread a while ago about how I was getting two mice, things went great and they get along awesome. They groom and cuddle each other and have never had an issue.
However, I only had the two, and I heard you're supposed to keep females in groups of at least 3 together, so I purchased 2 more mice of similar a similar age to be buddies with mine. The beige one, Lillie, is a true sweetheart, she'll cuddle and groom any mouse she meets. No issue there.
However, Ginger, my brown and white mouse, is very abrasive towards any other mouse that isn't Lillie. She roughs up and chases any other mouse she's in contact with. She doesn't make them bleed and doesn't leave marks, but she'll smack around her tail and wrestle with them, making them squeal. The other mice aren't bothersome or aggressive and show all the signs of subordination. However, when Ginger is intimately sniffing them up and down, if they move or kick one little bit, she attacks.
The environment doesn't matter either, it could be on her turf, their turf (I have 2 cages I plan on combining, but they're separated now), or even on neutral ground, she always roughs them up. I've tried all the introductory tricks but I can't keep them together for more than a few minutes for fear she'll actually do some damage.
Is it just because she's the alpha mouse, and wants to put them in their place? Or is there just something going on with her that makes her overly aggressive? Should I just let them tough through it if she'll eventually calm down? Or is there no way to keep her with mice other than Lillie?
Pic related is Ginger on the right, and the two new mice on the left. She'll let them sniff her, but once she's sniffs them, she attacks.

There's already a reptiles/amphibians thread and a birds thread, so small mammals in generally the next step. And pretty much every other thread is about dogs and cats so that's out
And there's a rat-specific thread that accepts other small mammal discussion, so might as well just make it a small mammal general instead of focusing on rats only. That thread's getting full anyway.
And pocket pet is just a general term for a small fuzzy pet that could, theoretically, fit in your pocket. I thought that to be pretty common knowledge.
So, i'm getting my first pet tomorrow. I decided to go with a Guinea Pig. I only have an aquarium for him to stay in, is that fine or will i have to buy a wire cage? Also i'm naming it Socrates. Give me your advice animal lovers.
A wire cage is a good home for a guinea pig. Aquariums are okay for gerbils and mice, but not most other rodents. Particularly not a large rodent like a guinea pig.
Get him a real guinea pig cage, something like this.

It has no top but it doesn't really matter that much because guinea pigs can't climb. UNLESS you have a cat or dog or some other animal that could get in there (but cats and dogs shouldn't be allowed near the guinea pig, they could easily kill him).

get another one, guinea pigs are social animals and they need company. Also if it's female it will need to be breed occasional or it could develop some health problems.
>>2272165
so much this
based Austria even outlawed having only 1 guinea pig. get it a partner or at least a friend pig
Howdy! I was just wondering, would any of you know if a 61cm by 31.5cm tank would be able to house two Axolotls comfortably? Buddy here has been pretty lonely for quite a while and needs a mate.
Is this a rescue?
>>2272255
no wonder my friend's axolotls both died abnormally early. I kept telling her the tank was too small for them.
>he has a "pet" bird

A lot of birds are more social than dogs. There are ones like Cockatoos where you pretty much have to spend the whole day with them to meet their social needs.
Really sad when an owner gets a pet out of their salary range.
pet

1.
a domestic or tamed animal or bird kept for companionship or pleasure and treated with care and affection.

a giant fucking faggot.
Why can't we have large predatory bats?
Because blood isn't very nutritious. Vampire bats have to be that small because they still have to drink a lot of blood versus their size to survive. Even still a lot of times they won't get enough blood so colonies have learned to share blood with bats that weren't able to get enough and the good samaritan will be paid back at a later time

Vampire bats aren't predatory. OP was talking about giant -predatory- bats.
Nobody asked before.
Would you like that with ice or without?
can any of you tree fags identify that bug?
thanks!
Wtf is a tree fag
im sorry, dont know, tried to be funny i guess.

So my one of my hens best friend was killed by a raccoon about a week ago. Those things happen, but are their anythings I should look out for to keep the hen healthy while we are waiting to raise new hens?
Pic related, her with her old best friend in the background.
Are there male chickens?
>>2272456
no, only hens, I live in the city.
There is one other hen, but she doesn't like to socialize as much
>>2272442
If you are able to, fix however the raccoon got to the chicken. Raccoons are a clever bunch
My cats ear is smelling like blue cheese, is she fine?
>>2272141
Does she have a fever?
>>2272146
I dont think so
>>2272150
Then she is probably fine.
Does it seem painful when you touch her ear? How old is she? Does she behave differently than usual? Do you know what a lymph node is?
I am giving away my puppy to a shelter after nearly 6 months because it still isn't pottytrained and I can't deal with it anymore. If it keeps happening, which it will, I will not be able to control myself and probably start hurting the dog.
I love it more than anything I have ever loved before, but I'm giving him up.
>>2271939
I'm not fucking baiting, I can't handle this dog anymore. I get fucking pissed when he has accidents, which are daily. One day I'm going to snap on him.
I'm giving him away before that happens. His pottytraining fuck ups will be someone elses.
Why are you posting here? What do you expect us to do if this isn't bait?
It took me two years to potty train my oldest dog, OP. I know completely where you're coming from. It's very frustrating when you're following the house training advice to the letter, and somehow the puppy isn't getting it.
My step mom tried cleaning one of my aquariums the other day when I was away, but she used a sponge that had soap on it. When my father got home, he said there was bubbles to the brim and he transferred my fish to a spare 20 gallon that had another cichlid in it, which we moved. It took 4 days, then he died 2 hours ago. I had him for 7 years, and he was a Texas cichlid. I just don't know what to do now. I just feel, I don't know. What do I need to do next /an/?
I put a piece of airline tubing in his mouth with oxygen flowing through. He isn't stiff yet, at least not a significant amount. Can someone help please? I love him and I want him back. Please help me.
Please.
His gills are still red.
