you mean
>american dog breeding
And yes, that was a mistake.
>>2268634
None of those are American breeds anon.
>>2268626
did you watch pedigree dogs exposed?
either way, they will educate you that around 1800 dog breeding became a fashionable sport for the posh upper class in britain.
THATS WHERE IT WENT WRONG
it went from breeding for function, to breeding for appearance (which is where we're still at today)
also lots of incest, which we now know is genetically very problematic
My dogs howl pathetically whenever I leave the house. The neighbours have started complaining. Wat do?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvW5D0J42so
i trained my dog to stop barking in one night because i lived in an apartment and the neigbors complained he went crazy when i was at work
i made him a comfy area in the bathroom (a crate is good for this also, or any dark quiet room) and closed him in there and waited him to be good and quiet for 5 minutes then let him out for cuddles or a treat or something
then i put him back in and made him be quiet for 10 minutes, let him out
then 20 minutes
etc.
if he started getting whiney or barky and not stop i'd go right out side the door and knock once and say "quiet" then reset the time
i had to set a timer and i had a horrible sleepless night but in the morning i had a dog who would be quiet while i was at work and he's been that way ever since
Is there a way to overcome pet allergies (cats specifically)? I just found out my flat mate is harboring 3 cats in my apartment by having to drag one out from under my bed and am now immediately feeling the consequences.
>>2271473
I overcame cat allergies. Whenever I was at someones place with a cat and I was with the cat lots the allergies would kick in. Then one day I wanted a cat so I got a kitten and I felt allergies for the first month I would feel itchy eyes and itchy from scratches and nose was all stuffed and runny a few days. Now I feel nothing and ended up getting another cat
>>2271477
Any tips for symptom management while my immune system adjusts? I'm ready to claw my eyes out.
if you're actually allergic you have to get rid of the cats
if you're just making shit up then, whatever, i'm sure a bunch of people with fake allergies will have some sound advice for you
Sorta venting. I've been warning my family for weeks that locking the family dog, a kind, loving, and gorgeous rottweiler, in the basement alone nearly 24/7 (with only an hour of upstairs time, usually taken up by bathroom and food), would make her antisocial and aggressive. They didn't listen. And today she snapped at my stepsisters baby who was playing around her food bowl. Now my cunt of a dad is going to take away that hour of uptime and is going to euthanize her if she snaps again. I really doubt he will listen to reason. That dog is the last thing that makes me truly happy. What do i do? Pic related.
Well thats not only cruel but inhumane. If you really care about the dog call animal control or depending on how old you are and financial situation move out with the dog. If he takes her to get euthanized plead your case to them. Lastly fuck your dad and family for doing that shit I hope you atleast walk the poor basterd.
move out and take the dog with you
>>2271315
I wish I could do that. I wouldn't be able to take care of my myself, let alone a dog too
My dog recently started shaking occasionally and I have no idea why
>inb4 vet
Ive taken her and doc said there was some gas build up in her stomach but it will pass, other than that shes fine
Shes smells her butt alot but again doc said her ass and glands were fine.
Is she just cold, excited, hungry? or is she just a wierd old lady looking for attention?
any advice?
pic is her falling asleep
>is she just a wierd old lady
maybe she has arthritis.
if she's smelling her butt a lot, she may have some kind of digestive problem. has her pooping changed?
>>2271319
She does have arthritis in her left leg from jumping off the couch and lots of play when she was younger (shes 10 btw) Her pooping is fine no runny shits. Ive been monitoring hydration and she drinks regularly. Maybe more exercise?
I dont walk her too much cause of the arthiritis but I still make sure she gets some exercise.

Hey /an/ I'm putting my dog up for adoption and the person coming to get him seems nice and stuff and was warning me about people who take dogs and out them in pit fights, they even told me about a shelter I could take him to if they weren't going to take him.
However I asked for some images of their dog and they even volunteer some pictures of their home. Thing is my inner paranoia is kicking in, the images don't seem to have a standard format and the pictures of their home says "download"
They said their dog was a Labrador but I'm not familiar with labs is this one and what do you guys think of this whole situation? I'll post the other pics after the OP
I'm worried for my dogs well being. Am I just being overly paranoid?
>>2271156
It's not that I can't take care of him it's that I can't bring him with me where I'm moving to and nobody in my family or friends can take him
>>2271159
Protecting much? I have to move due to financial issues, I can't afford this place anymore and the only available olive I can move doesn't accept pets.
Believe me I tried to find a place that would I even negotiated with the manager. I'd rather not take him to a vet encase nobody there adopts him and he has to be put down.
You can reverse image search, you know.
Hi, an, you can't really tell from the photo but this cat is drooling a lot. Why is that?
I don't even feed him any treats but once every few months, so it's not a 'pavlovs cat' scenario. His behavior is completely normal as far as I can tell. Same goes for his appetite according to his owner. He enjoys turkey scraps, dry food, and refuses wet cat food. About 6 years old.
He's not mine, so taking to the vet is not an option. I only have so much money for vet-related expenses for my own animals.
>>2271123
Sorry for the sideways photo, it looked normal when I uploaded it
>>2271123
He just likes to hang with me if I step outside. It's bizarre, I'm not a source of food yet he decided to take a liking to me.
Maybe I smell nice?
Raw food general.
Let's discuss raw feeding for both dogs and cats. I'm not well versed in it, but am incredibly interested in making a move to raw food for my Ridgeback. My grandmothers French bulldog has been on a raw food diet for years and he is 13 and very spunky.
Let's get a discussion going. From both extremes.
>giving dog a raw egg uncracked with kibble ok?
>how do you raw feed for your dog or cat.
>how do you keep it affordable?
>what are thoughts on raw food diet for animals
Pic related: my 4month Ridgeback with my year and a half old Pitbull.
Named Cecil and stonewall respectively. Both on kibble, looking to move ridgeback to raw food.
>>2271107
bump
>getting your dogs diet from what you hunt?
Have any of you raw feeders experienced seizures? My dog has been having fried egg and cooked pheasant mixed with her meals and got a seizure today after eating something toxic. The vet said the excess protein from the extras in her kibble made her more susceptible to the seizure. Is this a bunch of crap or should we stop giving her little extras? We give her pheasant often as a prize because she hunts them cut its always cooked.
>>2271152
that sounds odd. Too much protein? If a dog were to gorge itself in the wild on some animal it killed, would it begin to seize? that seems wrong, but I dont know. Decide to feed raw or feed kibble. The issue might be the back and forth on both.
if my dog has the mental abilities of a two year old child and many two year olds are capable of speech and limited abstraction does that mean my dog has thoughts similar in complexity to a two year old but can't vocalize them?
pretty much
>>2271025
No because your dog doesn't experience life the same way as a human child.
the dog doesn't want to talk to your dumb ass
take it to nasa and let it have a conversation with a scientist
Is it wrong to let your dogos (and cates) to sleep with you in the bed?
They would never kick you out of their bed, if it was up to them.
>>2270988
>They would never kick you out of their bed, if it was up to them.
Hell yes they would.
I sleep with my lab mix and my mom's standard poodle. The poodle looooves to stretch her legs out and push you to the side. Then she snuggles up close to you again and repeats until you wake up on the floor.
Its dirty. But I sleep in my clothes anyway. So she does.
>>2270988
It's not wrong. I don't do it because my dog sheds a lot and I don't like waking up with fur in my mouth. If I had a non shedding breed we would share a bed.
hey /an/
my cat died a few weeks ago from feline leukemia(RIP, you were a good little dude), and now we're thinking we might be getting a dog, we live in vancouver and have a yard and plenty of parks near us
i'd like to get a shiba inu(meme dog, i know, but i really like them), while GF wants either a labrador retriever or husky, is there anything in particular to know about those breeds that would be a problem for us?
Shiba's are cunts and aren't good for a first time owner. Labs are easier, and huskys are just a handful exercise-wise. adopt an older, hopefully trained, dog from a shelter. No matter what you do, don't buy from a byb and don't get a cat
>>2270961
Getting a Shiba as a first dog is a bad idea because they are hard to train and complete idiots. Get yourself a Lab. I would have recommended a Golden Retriever because they are the most trainable out of the four breeds you selected but the shedding can be a little overwhelming for a first time owner. Labs shed too but during their shedding season and the shorter hairs are less noticeable than a Golden's hairs.

>actually allowing your dog to interact with other dogs without fear of it getting attacked and/or diseased
So my friend got this untrained dog that im beginning to hate.
>It begs for food constantly.
>prancing around on your lap.
>literally tries to get into your food on a low table.
>keeps taking my shoes (which are expensive)
>cant take a walk with it because you got to
be this olympic gymnast to dodge the dog leash when he runs around.
>he lets it be outside to bark in a crowded neighborhood ( which isn't very loud because its a pug , but still)
>it's snoring makes Snorlax jealous.
>it constantly licks me every chance it gets. if im on the sofa with short it will begin to lick my calfs.
>when on the sofa it will always try leap and lick your face.
he's had it for almost 3 years now, and i think this is getting absurd.
so what do i do ?
>>2270810
Uhhh just don't go to your friend's house... Duh....?
>>2270810
Is he aware it's a butthole of a dog?
Well, he probably is, and your friend is just like "lol too late it's already retarded"
The dog's his property, anyway.
>>2270810
When he tries to do those things just push him away and say NO sternly. He'll stop, if only just for you. Pugs are nice boys. Be his friend.
How often do you see Nu-Labradors in your neighborhood?
Maybe not as big as the bottom, but all the labs around me are 'nu-labs'.
>>2270769
>Nu-Labrador
you mean overfed regular lab with shitty owners
I have not met a Labrador that wasn't overwrite. What's wrong with lab owners?
>Start making kongs for my dog
>She eventually figures out that if she tosses the kong up in the air, she can dislodge the kibble/treats.
>Went from taking her 40 minutes to get the food out to less than 10
>Alright, cool
>Research different things to stuff in the kong
>Find the frozen recipie
>Frozens working great for over a year until
>Give my dog the kong, she bites off the end then loses interest
>huh?
>Get her interested in it, she starts eating it, so leave her alone to eat it
>Go into room a while later and pick up the kong
>The foods still in it but now it's thawed out and soft
>Huh??
>Phone rings, put the kong down to go answer it
>Walking through the house on the phone now, just kind of spacing off as I'm talking to my friend
>Dog comes trotting in from outside, beelines for the kong
>Eats everything in the kong in 2.5 seconds
>Trots back outside
Well fuck
>>2270716
If your dog is biting them you can try blue or black kongs. They're made of stronger rubber.
If your dog loses interest try adding higher value treats in with the food. Liver pate, peanut butter, and cream cheese for example. You don't need much. Also try offering kongs less often so its a special treat. Alternate with other food puzzle toys.
>>2270766
I...I don't think you understood what I was saying. I give her a kong about twice a month, she's just fucking smart and keeps learning the quickest way to get the food-which defeats the purpose. She didn't bite the kong, she bit the bit of food that was sticking out of the top, then waited for the food to defrost and came back and ate it all.
My point was that now I have to figure out either
A-a different method for the kong
or
B-a completely different toy.

>one of the smartest animals in the world found an efficient way to get to its food
How are you surprised?
