Probably because they were super shitty in 7E and are still kinda shitty in 8E. You're still an elite army that has neither the firepower nor the durability to warrant such high points costs and small army size.

But anon, they can finally have bolt pistols, and they cost less base now, being 19 ppm rather than 22, which gets you bolter+boltpistol both of which still have special issue ammunition. Blackstars, one of the better units in the army list, have about maintained points cost while also having better utility as a guntoting evasive transport.

On an unrelated note. I'm very curious as to how to kit up a killteam for certain roles, considering how many options you have for creating kill teams.

The only announcement I'm really expecting is that of variable lengths for stories, where we might stick around on a single plane for every set of a year or two.

I haven't even had one turn, so it was impossible for me to interact with the trigger. If he let me just play one island I

could have stifled the trigger and still been at 40 life. Instead he targets me out of pure spite. We all talked about it

and it was pretty clear that he only wanted me to be at 39 life so that I wouldn't win. He was going all on about how he

is perfectly allowed to scorch me, but he didn't even think for a second about how I felt about it.

It would have been infinitely preferable if he gave me just one turn to get up stifle mana or find a way to gain some

life. Instead he tries to act like just because the game lets him do something that its ok and my feelings don't matter.

We all agreed that targeting me was unnecessarily spiteful considering he had another land in hand he could play, or he

could have mulliganed to a hand that had less hateful cards. We all agreed to just play as if I was at 40.

What I don't get is how people like him think its a good idea to play like that with regular playgroups. You know that by

hitting me with scorching desert, it's just going to make me bring out my five color stonerain.dek and completely remove

his ability to play next game.

Since then we have houseruled that you're not allowed to hurt others players if they don't have a way to interact with it.

Our players that have some social awareness and aren't completely autistic have all agreed with this rule and it has done

a great job of weeding out the players that have offensive personality traits, such as having skin any thicker than

plastic food wrap.

8 TH edition bat rep time? Guard (me) VS Eldar at 2000pts, Mission: No mercy (kill points)
I take Guilliman, a 50 man conscript blob, 4 commissars, 1 basilisk,1 wyvern, 1 LR 3Xhvy flamers battlecannon, 3 armoured sentinels w/lascannons, 2x hvy wpn teams autocannons, and the rest infantry squads with lascannons (7 squads)
Eldar takes wraithknight, 10 banshees, the banshee woman, 3 wraith lords, 30ish infantry , the avatar, 10 scorpions, karandras, and some rangers
His turn he moves up, takes a few pop shots, I lose almost nothing. My turn I knock off 18 health from the Wraithknight
Next turn, he takes out 2 of my infantry squads in shooting and charges my conscript blob with Karandras, banshees, banshee woman, 2 wraithlords, and the avatar. For the next 2 turns he’ll be busy killing my 50 man blob, meanwhile I erase all his other shit piece meal in the shooting phase—meanwhile I line up Guilliman to enter the close combat fuckfest to start deleting his scary CC shit—once again piece meal. Turn 5 he GG’s, I had 6 killpoints to his 3.
I had 15 CP (Brigade + guilliman), I spent almost all of it. Rerolls, counter charging, and auto pass battleshock are the shit. Astra militarum is unstoppable this edition.

It's a fiery topic here. I think the consensus seems to be that the high concept is good but people have issues with the execution. That and some fanatics raving about Monte Cook eating chopped dicks; it's some Alex Jones shit. I have no idea.

Anyways, the actual setting hews too closely to straightforward D&D stuff for my tastes and while I see why they did that, I think they could have gone a little more exotic. The game I ran toned down the combat and focused on player investigation of the esoteric mysteries. I revamped a bit of the societal structures (the pseudo-feudal Europe stuff makes no sense here IMO) and drew a bit on a couple different aspects of Earth's history; for instance, I basically ran the Order of Truth as Pythagoreans on steroids rather than a black hat Catholic Church. Came out sort of Carl Sagan meets Phantasy Star. I really liked it, but I think the sandbox thing was hard for our group and I probably should have provided more direction, and people got frustrated at their characters' limited understanding. Not to mention, I think it was a big jump in mindset from Shadowrun.

So, mixed reviews from my personal group. Can't say much about the system either way. Cool concept, but I think it could use refinement.

It seemed like a sci-fi fantasy take on D&D, which is the only other TTRPG I've played so I guess I didn't really mind. I'm not a seasoned RPer or anything, I was just looking for some experiences to draw inspiration from.

I agree with you, I thought the whole Amber Priests and whatnot felt a little strange to me in a sci-fi fantasy setting, so I purposely haven't used them in any of the sessions yet. I do absolutely love Phantasy Star though, your rendition sounds like something I would dig.
