How do you convert standard clock position for space combat? Obviously we can't just say 6 o'clock high because "high" is too ambiguous in 3D space. Has this ever been done before?

Use a 24 hour clock.
>>
>>53758622
Add incline and decline to your calculations, and measure from a ship's position.

e.g.
9 o'clock, incline 45 degrees
4 o'clock, decline 15 degrees

You need a Z axis, since it's being plotted in three dimensions instead of just two (or close enough to two.) Best way I've found it using a bearing from 1 to 360 degrees, then a second bearing from 180 "down angle" to 180 "up angle," effectively -180 to 180, to determine Z.

A contact might be bearing 90, 45 degrees down angle. That means the ship is directly off your starboard side, down 45 degrees from your current plane. A third number can be introduced to show distance from the target.

>>

Kinda redundant, in most systems they'd have been better off just being a type of Fighter than their own class. Yeah, they usually get some kind of "survivalist" flavor, but THAT is usually done better by whatever the Ranger-type class is.

Just swap out a feature from Fighter or Ranger for your typical Barbarian Rage feature and save yourself the effort of making it an entirely separate class.
>>
>>53757878

In D&D the Rage feature should be a feat that becomes a class ability for others to use and opens other options for them I hate the fact they are shoe horned into being loincloth wearing dummies who have a tenuous connection to nature through their rage

Dwarves are the master race.

Why does Delta Green use a d100 when everything is in increments of 5% and 10%? They should just use a d20 if they aren't going to utilize the d100's granularity.

Do you allow your players to have happy endings?
175 posts and 31 images submitted.
>>
I'm not sure 'allow' is the right word.

The happy endings are always there, waiting for them. They just have to keep fighting, keep struggling, keep going with the hope that they'll reach them.

Sometimes they succeed. Sometimes they partially succeed, having to compromise or accept some bittersweet element to their victory. But whether they achieve it isn't something I decide or 'allow'. It's all about their choices, and their story. The journey matters more than the destination.

>>
>>53764910
Lots of fire warriors, a couple broadsides, gun drones, crisis suit commanders, one or two units of pathfinders, sniper drone teams, you have lots of good options.

Core sets are back, motherfuckers. 3 large sets a year. No more Gatewatch. Magic is great again.

I like how each world will get as many sets as it deserves now. Makes it way easier to justify returning to old weird planes like Kamigawa if we're only there for three months. Still now sure what this means for standard, now what every environment will be fucking huge.

Less sets with Masterpieces, that's good.

Less Gatewatch in the story, that's great (especially as a Vorthos).

More people on designing the competitive environment could be good.

Its kinda petty, but if its an ongoing problem, that has been explained to them and its not changing, go for it.
the obnoxious part for me is when someone is late, we shoot the shit, catch up on life, etc, until they get there. Well once they get there, we've been ready to go for 45 fukkin minutes Danni, I dont want to have to restart all the pleasantries for you. Lets start gaming, dammit.

So I'm thinking on playing my first tabletop RPG. Only real experience I've had with tabletop RPGs is one session I played of D&D 3.5 like 15-16 years ago so I'm basically new.

The group would be myself and 2 more players. We are primarily Tabletop Wargamers and Board Gamers. Of us three, I'm by far the more heavy rules reader as I am the one who usually teaches games. Because of this, the role of GM will probably fall upon me. And here lies the fight hurdle (although minor).

I'm physically disabled and can't even roll dice or stand up behind say a GM screen (I'm wheelchair bound). For that reason, I'm looking into a RPG system that ideally has all rolls done by the players so I don't need to keep a screen to hide GM rolls (I know you could mitigate this with software but still). Also would like the RPG easy to play since it would be our first. I'm also not interested in D&D or Pathfinder. They're both vanilla and Pathfinder is very complex (basing on my old D&D 3.5 experience).

Because of the above, one I was considering was Numenera. I know people here aren't fans of it, but from what I've read, it's streamlined and simple, has a twist on generic Fantasy by mixing in some sci-fi, and the GM actually never rolls anything. Also, I am currectly playing the CRPG Torments: Tides of Numenera, so it gets a bonus point as I am familiar with the lore and setting. But I'm open to suggestions on other RPG systems, so /tg/, what do you recommend?

>>
Can you use a smartphone? If so, there are tons of dice-rolling apps that should allow you to easily make all kinds of rolls without letting your players see the results.

About games/sytems, it really depends on your players' theme preferences. If you're looking for simple rules, I'd recommend Storyteller (Vampire, Mage, Werewolf) or freaking Apocalypse World for the lulz (http://apocalypse-world.com/ApocalypseWorldBasicRefbook2ndEd.pdf).

Dungeon World of Apocalypse World will be your friend then. Read the rules carefully as they not only tell you how to play the game but give a clear, structured guide on how to run the game as a GM which is vital to follow if you want it to work.

I know that most consider mind control evil, but is mind crush or 'get rid of the evil part' more acceptable?

In DnD terms, change an evil alignment into neutral.
39 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>in D&D terms
I'm D&D terms, you have objective Good and Evil, so it's fine. In literally any other setting though, it's pretty fucking evil by most measures as you're simply removing what YOU consider evil i.e. any element you find objectionable. It shouldn't be too hard to think of ways this ends poorly.
>>
Forcing someone to behave a certain way isn't being true to that alignment. Making someone act good doesn't make them good, any more than mind controlling a good person to perform evil deeds doesn't make them a bad person.

If you could allow someone to objectively examine themselves, and if they decided they wanted to become a better person, that's good.

Lobotomizing someone, even in the name of good, is evil.
>>
>>53761103
If some Lawful Evil dictator lobotomizes good people to make them obey the dictator's orders, is that Lawful, Neutral, or Chaotic?
