Can we get a dwarf hate thread going?
I just really cannot stand these stunted ratling fuckers in any setting whatsoever. Whenever we see them, they're ass hurt about their once "great" failing civilisation and sitting around moping in their literal shitholes.
There's nothing redeeming about them at all, from their meme-beards, shitty hammers and axes and second rate Viking aesthetic.

Just got back from a game of dnd
>First session of campaign
>Party are all black hands, not nice folk
>Looting and pillaging and all that good stuff
>One character (an elf of course) decides he is going to befriend everyone instead
>Rides ahead as he doesn't agree with our thievery
>Whyareyouplayingthisparty.jpg
>We fight almost everyone in his wake
>Finally catch up, he casts a wall of stone to block us
>Runs off to finish the main quest
>Finally catch up and he is trying to befriend the sessions BBEG, an ogre captain
>Captain sees us entering the room and decides to fight us
>Elfboy immediately goes invisible for the entire fight
>Moment we kill it he unhides and proceeds to talk about how much he helped all session
>Even tries to rez ogre to keep befriending
Ran out of time after that, but that's not even the worst bit, after the session ended he told us his characters name.

>started my players at level 3
>Let my players pick out most any custom archetypes as long as they weren't retarded
>One player picks Dragon Knight Barbarian
>He gets to pick a single color of dragon and gain the appropriate resistance to that damage and gains +2 to attack roles
>One player picks elemental knight fighter
>They gain resistance to bludgeon/pierce/slash forever 24/7
The barbarian seems slightly weaker than normal options while the other definitely counts as "retarded". Any ideas on how to balance these out? I told them i'd think about it and get back to them in time for our session next week.

The barbarian one seems fine. The attack bonus might be a little good for a level 3 feature (but not absurdly so), but I don't really see why you wouldn't just make the resistance 24/7 since it would make so little difference and would seem more appealing. It probably just seems underwhelming since the fighter's one is essentially as good as the barbarians main feature only constant
Resistance to normal weapon damage is typically a higher level ability, and I don't really see what it has to do with the elements in the first place. I would just flat out replace it with something that felt more elemental like access to some cantrips or the ability to change his melee damage types into fire/electricity/cold or something like that

I'd say give the elemental fighter a limited amount of uses of b/s/p resistance as a reaction that increases with level.
With the Barbarian I don't see why the player doesn't reflavor what's already there in the Unearthed Arcana for Elemental Barbarian (which essentially gives you extra flat damage via elemental aura).

/tg/, I'm in love with Elder Signs.
This is weird. Another friend tried to get me to play Arkham Horror and I hated it, it was so frackin' complex, or maybe he just didn't explain it right. But a buddy brought this game to a con and we played it and now I'm obsessed, I need to play this again.
I've never owned a board game like this so here's what I want to know...
-Is $35 good for a game like this? -Should I buy it secondhand?
-Is it worth going and trying to play it with complete strangers at a game shop?
-Is it still fun with only two people?
-Do you feel like a tool playing it by yourself?
-Should I give Arkham Horror another shot?
-How invested should I be in expansion packs?

I'm looking to run a Savage Worlds game where:
The players are set in a timeline where the U.S is not United and the states are mini countries, their characters would be either in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
My questions being: Is there a better system to run a game set in modern time for this concept? And, Have you played or ran an Alt History game? If not what'd be something you'd like to play.

Savage worlds is fine.
If you want a good source for ideas, then try GURPS Infinite Worlds, which gives you a good set of guidelines and even a meta-universe to place them within. The GURPS Alternate Earths series includes writeups on alternate timelines with considerable historical background that might give you ideas-- they can be tied to Infinite Worlds or used a la carte in a pure "what if" setting. There's quite a bit on the web as well, again search for GURPS and infinite worlds to find good writeups of similar ideas.
Of course, I could suggest you play the game in GURPS, too, and it would be great, but clearly you already have a generic universal system you're happy with. So why not stick with that?

If the campaign is going to feature a lot of combat and you want the action to be fast, loose, and somewhat cinematic, I say stick with Savage Worlds. If the game is not going to have a lot of combat, or you want a lot of attention to detail, give GURPS a try.

LEAK: Standard Showdown packs for Ixalan will be similar to Yugioh's Tournament Pack series. This will be where we will see Masterpieces from now on, and each set will have 2 Masterpieces. Each pack will contain 5 cards: 2 Commons, 1 Uncommon, 1 Rare or Mythic, and 1 Foil, which could either be a foil version of a card in the main set, or a Masterpiece. All cards in the set except the Masterpieces will be Standard Legal.

Hey guys, so I read the "John the TSA Agent" story awhile back and I need some insight for a choice of similar stories I want to run and how much prep work might go into each.
1) Security Guard for a bank. Multiple plot lines including embezzling, loan fraud, and an actual bank heist.
2)Secret Service agent. Assassination attempt and potential terrorist attack, both happening on the same day.
3)Nuclear Reactor meltdown. Sabotage, but on a grand scale.
What do you guys think is the best choice to run, given a need for balance between having multiple choices and not going overboard.

I've been interested in playing role playing games for a long time now, but it feels like every time I try to find a group to play with, the campaign ends up feeling overly silly. While I do enjoy humor and fun as much as the next person, it's very hard to become attached to a campaign when your barbarian is trying to fuck or murder everyone he sees, the wizard is trying and failing to run the most unoptimized and memey build possible with no forethought, and the ranger is begging the dm for a unique special snowflake dragon mount. As such, I've never really stuck with any groups for any real periods of time.
So I ask, are these things that players usually grow out of quickly, or do I just need to find other groups that are somewhat more like-minded?

I feel this sometimes, but for me it's ironic humor that references outside of the campaign that takes me out of the game. Humor is great, but if the only humor is referencing movies/comics in character or making sly remarks about noticing tropes in the NPCs kills the mood. I hate having every mecha we find to be followed by a slew of evangelion jokes, or every woman npc to be a challenge to roll charisma - the layers of irony don't salvage the shit humor.
I'd ask the same thing; do players eventually grow out of being an ironic roleplayer and start to be serious about their DMing or PC creation?

I'm fine with references if they're done naturally or don't feel forced, but I do agree that waves of the same references over and over, or trying to woe a woman even if doing so is ooc, is really obnoxious.
