So i heard of a game that's primarily verbal but pad and paper helps. You and other people use a step process to form a world with its own words. Now I forgot the name and hope you guys can help.

A while ago I made a goodreads list for /tg/'s approved reading. In the discussion thread a bunch of people were praising The Black Prism by Brent Weeks, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

The Black Prism was okay. I really liked certain parts, and I kind of rolled my eyes at other parts. Characters were good, plot was fine, magic system was unique and all that. It just didn't impress me a whole lot.

What /tg/ books have you read recently? How did you like them?

A unique question for you /tg/

How much thought do you put into using names from mythology? The thought came to mind trying to create a character with twin pistols named after Freki and Geri and trying to look deeper into the name the names literally mean "The Ravenous and the Greedy one" and made me re-think the concept I was going for. Have you ever encountered a situation like this?

No, I'm not an unoriginal hack.
>>
>>54142938

Often. I find it's much more compelling and interesting to create a setting in which pre-existing figures from mythology and/or history are placed together and to find ways in which they fit most appropriately.

For example, taking Merlin, Galileo, and Thor, then looking into all the history, backstory, and etymology surrounding them to find a cohesive theme. They can become gods, or great heroes, or leaders of nations, but with the right aspects highlighted to bring it all together.

I suppose it comes down to this: do you want to avoid all recognised and familiar figures to try to force originality that doesn't exist, or do you want to try to form a world with a sense of pseudo-reality because of the sources it borrows from?

Those names make sense for pistols, because they are ravenous for death and greedy for souls.

So I just bought a full set of Commander 2016 from an ebay seller with 100% positive feedback. It looks like these are a set of English cards that were packaged for sale in china, but with the exponential growth of the Chinese counterfeit market I figured it would be a good idea to check it through with you fine people. So, has anyone had any experience with counterfeit Commander products to date?

if your concerned about counterfeit, take the whole box to your lgs and ask them to help you compare singles, but from what youve posted that looks like the regular case shipping, just in chinese
>>
Probably just sold by some gook that works in the factory that makes the real Magic cards. It's pretty commonplace.

No worries. You can still get them on ebay for about £10 a pop. Probably best to grab one and cast it.

The AT VOTOMS 1/300 or 6mm miniatures are from GZG and the other vehicles are 2mm Germy Sci-fi.

'Men and Women of the Imperium, hear the word of your Primarch.

There was a day. It was a day of wolves battering at the door, of cries from inhuman throats and the debasement of all the virtues that brought us from the filthiest caves of the most blighted land, the most inhospitable corner of what we now revere as Terra

There was a day when hope was the pre-occupation of a mad-man, when when the decision to stand and fight was beyond conception, and when all that was left of us was naught but the least of us.

And on that day Man Stood.

I speak of the day before my coming.

I speak of the day before my resurrection.

I speak of out darkest day, when men ground their lives away on the black earth of Cadia, cried bloody murder against the audacity of the green-skins on the doomed world of Armageddon, bellowed the name bastard at an entire galaxy that seemed dead set on our extermination.

This was a lightless age, a hopeless age, and age of howling wind in which the light of a mere candle was the ephemera of fantasy.

And still Man Stood.

Man. Stood. With no knowledge of my coming. No inkling of the reversal of fortunes just beyond the horizon. They fought with the ferocity of men who could upturn the world, when their efforts seemed most hopeless.

Therefore, I make a declaration.

Every man and woman who fought on the soil of Cadia.

Every man and woman who bellowed defiance on Armageddon.

Every man and woman, across the breath of the galaxy, who fired a shot in the name of the Imperium on the day before my resurrection...

They are all Imperial Saints.

This is not some empty proclamation. I mean this in every sense of the title.

The Ecclesiarchy shall enter their names in its scrolls of divinity.

They shall be afforded every due honour.

And though it may take a hundred thousand years, and though they may number in the untold billions, and though they may all be dead by the time their turn comes, all shall have their parade of Ascension on Ophelia, all shall be fully entered into the annals, and all shall be recognized as the fullest devotee of my Father.

Of those who stood and fought on the darkest day, all of them shall be remembered in the manner they deserve.

Because they stood. And by the unthinkable bravery of their standing, it can be said, without reservation, that Man now stands..

Enterprising wizards have refined the concept of the bag of holding to create special weapon holsters that allow a user to quickly draw and dispel an attuned weapon with ease.

The concept took off once the first automobiles came into production as a toy of the nobility before eventually filtering down to the masses

I hate to start out the thread with complaining about 3e's art for the however many-th time, but why couldn't they have used photos like that if they were going to insist on going with only altered photos for their images?

On a less negative note, I've been bouncing around the idea of a school of magick based on HEMAfaggotry, but I'm not really sure where to go after the central paradox (your magick is based on the emulation of a more honorable and straightforward age of combat[citation needed], but its result is the underhanded and occult effects of an Adept). A minor charge would be from having a single bout where you hold your code of honor, since that seems in line with the paradox and is fairly common, but I'm not really sure where to scale up from there. Anyone have ideas?
>>
>>54142243
Make it about the dream of chivalry in the modern age, about dream and delusion, basically Dom Quixote ripoffs, where they get minor charges for acts of bravery and major for succeeding in quests in the old ways. They must always be working towards an honorable quest or else they have no power,

My group are reaching the end of our campaign (5e) and while we all enjoyed it, I would like to try a new system. A player suggested Pathfinder but I would rather stray away from DnD

I'm looking for (in general order of importance)

- Point buy based character building with some kind of multiclassing or pick and choose available
- Suitable for fantasy
- Relatively easy to learn rules

I'd rather a combat heavy system but anything with nice RP rules would be good too. Thanks.

Mutants and Masterminds 3e might be worth a shot, it's a very customizable point buy system that you can build almost anything, including fantasy even though it's advertised as a superhero system.
>>

I heard that mentioned before for high fantasy. Will have a lock

Have you ever tried 4e? Despite a lot of the negative press around it, it's a very fun system if it suits your playstyle.

That last part is important, and why a lot of people got mad about it. If the idea of a lack of obfuscation and revealing disassociative mechanics turns you off, 4e is not for you. It is very clearly laid out, straightforward and direct, focusing on providing a solid and balanced ruleset and trusting you to figure out the fluff side on your own, rather than sticking to the classic idea of a direct one to one relationship, and obscuring it even when it wasn't true.

It's not perfect, there are a few small caveats here and there, and it only really works for more heroic action fantasy games, but if you and your group are on board it can be a really fun ride.

Sup /tg/, I'm looking for a cooperative or a skirmish board game to play with my nigg. The one we played a lot so far is Arkham Horror and we both love it, but I'd like to try something different. Preferably sci-fi too, but I guess generic fantasy would be fine as well. Here's some titles I'm thinking about:

>Space Hulk
>Doom board game (the new one)
>Gears of War board game
>Deadzone

I'm mainly interested in Space Hulk. Never played it, but I'm wondering how replayable is it actually. Seems a bit shallow to me and sounds like it would get old fast, but it looks so god damn cool and I always wanted to get into WH40k (I enjoyed Dawn of War).

Any other expansions for Arkham Horror that you could recommend? I already own Innsmouth Horror and Lurker at the Threshold.

Space Hulk as you said doesn't have that much too it. There are better 40K board games IMO, like the upcoming Heroes of Black Reach. I haven't tried Gears of War, but Deadzone and Doom are pretty fun. Deadzone is a straight up miniatures skirmish game that is packaged as a board game (No measuring though because it uses large grids for movement), while Doom is a much more standard board game.
