So i’m running a somewhat rp heavy game and i’m trying to find ways to help the immersion. I thought about adding some background music to help keep the game’s tone. Nothing crazy or heavy, just a long playlist of instrumental music loud enough to listen to but not so much that players would need to talk over it.
My aim is to have 2 playlist (combat, non combat, and off for events which neither fit), both about 6+ hours, instrumental music fitting of a low fantasy medieval setting.
Example of noncombat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFcFTj-nEK0
Example of combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTScgw-MF94
I’m looking for advice on music during play (in general) and on music which fits into my categories.
If you have a suggestion please link me a track rather than just saying “skyrim or wow”
I tried asking my FB rp group, but after 3 post the thread was filled with dubstep and R&B (hence the asking to read fully)
Thank you

Inspirational art/stories/advice for this game? Starting my first campaign next week.
Anyone played it? Is it good?
It's OK.
Way too many moving parts, rules and restrictions that often don't make sense, and (to me) an annoying resource management system. Also, end-game pacing is kinda fucked - my experience is that you are struggling to get anything at all done up til the very end, when a switch flicks and you casually annihilate whatever's in front of you.
All that said, the core concept is good and we occasionally play a heavily house-ruled version.

Looks good, fights are tough but rewarding. Think Darkest Dungeon but boardgame. The basic rules and mechanics are not too easy but comprehencable.
It takes ages to play though. Four players is like 5-6 hours, unless you hurry yourself, but if you have to hurry to play a board game you're doing it wrong.
Also, card combos are important here, which some love, others hate. You can just go at it, or you can go "I play x, whoch gives me a bonus if I have y, together they generate enough mana so I can play z AND support it with v because I play r at minus one thanks to q"

Lists of decks on top, and decks in general (although its deaths shadow on the tippy top so theres that)

I'm building an imperial guard infantry regiment and i'm preping for a game against an ork horde list. I was going to use 2x30 man conscript squads backed by yarrick and a company commander, however after some theoretical dice rolling any decent ork horde will roll over the conscripts, so i've been thinking of using 5 Flamer special weapon squads and 2 company commanders in a vanguard detachment to screen my gunline and charge forward to get some early thinning anf kills on the mobs. What do you all think or have any other screening tactics.
Why do they call it Magic Origins?
I don't see them going back to their origins much
>>54175725
It's the origins of everyone(Read, literally no one ever in the history of time, past, present and future, in all concievable realities that haven't shortly nuked themselves into nothingness)'s favorite group of planeswalkers, the gatewatch!
>>54175725
Time to dust off my white enchantment deck.
>>54175725
Origin stories of the gatewatch are in that set.
Could a squad of space marines take over a modern first world country?
Single squad, with no air support?
No, probably not.
>>54175495
Depends what sort of support they can get, but I think at minimum you would need a squad of terminators and they would need to lie about their total numbers.
>>54175510
>>54175598
Not that I don't believe you, but what would stop them?
The sheer amount of bullets? Bombs?
So I've just uncovered a full, metal set of The Fellowship in decent shape that I never knew I had. I've heard GW's LotR was a good game, but did it get Sigmar'd when they changed to The Hobbit™ Strategy Battle Game, or is it still basically the same game with a different name?
>>54175439
Same game, different name.
>>54175439
Few changes but still ok.
I prefer the big rulebook rules, use the new only if
1) you need to play with the new models (why?)
2) you feel big monsters are underpowered, in that case import the big monster rules and perhaps the elvish sword rules.
You don't need much else
>>54175439
Same game, different name, with the caveats that stupid shit from the Hobbit movies being made more resembles AoS models than LotR ones, and that the LotR kits themselves are now twice as expensive as they were even 5-6 years ago.
Traveller is a classic science fiction system first released in 1977. In its original release it was a general purpose SF system, but a setting was soon developed called The Third Imperium, based on classic space opera tropes of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, with a slight noir tint.
Though it can support a wide range of game types, the classic campaign involves a group of retired veterans tooling around in a spaceship, taking whatever jobs they can find in a desperate bid to stay in business, a la Firefly or Cowboy Bebop.

What's the worst string of luck you've had playable from chargen?
Sorry Anon, we were ahead of you.

How do you perceive other D&D groups?
How long did it take medieval monks and scholars to write books by hand? How many pages per day?
>>54174668
Depends on what job. Different parts of the process (preparing the velllum, inking the text, penciling in the artwork, illuminating the artwork) could be done by different monks with their own specialties, especially in the later Middle Ages when scriptoria were more like book-producing factories (never mind the Renaissance, when hand-written textbooks were churned out en masse by monks and scriveners).
If you're just talking about the text, well, again, depends on whether it's a de luxe manuscript being written in a very slow and careful hand (artifical unical, irish majuscule, textura quadrata) or a work-a-day cursive (half uncial, most national hands, bastard or secretary scripts), or something in between (carolingian, bâtarde, rotunda). Be specific about what you mean.
I'm running a DH group, that's about to (un?)willingly get into Commoragh. Problem is I don't have much visual material on the place. All I have is a few pieces that are basically 'Spiky as fuck towers' but no cityscapes or individual rooms. Anyone got some material that I can work with?
>>54174397
I wish I could help you mate but I honestly have never seen any pictures of the Dark City besides what you have found - I have found a few good literary references for the outlay of DEldar rooms and things, if you are interested. But if you really want pictures that reflect Commorragh, look for stuff from DnD and maybe Magic: The Gathering that relates to some of the more mind-bending landscapes - Commorragh is supposed to be this twilight realm of completely manufactured reality, and I could only imagine that beings as twisted and vain as the DEldar would create a world to make Lovecraft blush.
>>54174397
Out of curiosity, bruva, what is the story? I always wanted to do something in the Dark City but I had thought it would include DEldar characters navigating the power plays of Commorragh. What lies in store for the servants of the Emperor in the Sci-Fi equivalent of an unseemly Unseelie Court?
how would you stat a Giant archer as a PC in 5e?
>>54173993
Goliath race and ranged Fighter/various other classes capable of using bows is the best you're gonna get with 5e DnD.

If you're starting at level 5 or higher, i would also say to have him use the DMG optional rule that has you make a single attack instead of multiples and compound the damage, so that rather than two shots for 1d10+stat it's one for 2d10 plus double stat.
That helps get across the draw weight he's working with. If you want to take it a step further give him a 'giant longbow' statted up as a magic item that does 2d6 damage and can substitute Strength for Dex.
It'd be a lot of damage in a single shot, but it wouldnt be too overwhelming.
>What are the rule sets for Pixies and Pythons
Am I the only one that loves fictional little RPGs they have in cartoons? It sounds weird but I actually knew someone that DIDN'T but I always find them funny as hell.
For instance when characters in fantasy stories play something like "Careers and Cubicles" I always think it's funny as hell.
Furthermore, I'm legitimately curious to play one and would like to know if anyone ever went through with it and made one.
Presumably, they're a stand in for the trademarked name Dungeons and Dragons. I'd imagine something similar, but obviously tweaked to fit the cartoon's world.
The not-D&D they play in Mazes and Monsters seems really fun. Especially the way they talk about it outside the game ("You play at the 7th level?!").
For an anti-D&D book/film, it sure made me want to play more D&D.
We should make a cartoony B/X clone called Pixies and Pythons.
