You're just asking for yourself to reveal your whole hand, combo, or strategy just to have the guy go "wait, I counter that thing you just did three moves ago but rushed through without saying anything or asking for permission"

Hey /tg/ long time lurker first time poster here. So after playing 3 years straight of 5e D&d I am pretty burnt out and tired of it to be honest. I am looking at new games to play with my group, I am open to suggestions. I'm hoping for things that don't involve generic fantasy settings. I've had my eye on a few

Cyberpunk. High lethality, completely different setting, tone and general feel. I recommend watching some cyberpunk media to inspire you. (Blade Runner, Robo Cop, Ghost in the Shell and Jin Roh: Wolf Brigade)

Any recommendations for low fantasy games with streamlined combat and little/no emphasis on magic? I only have experience with 3.5e and 4e but I just find that the combat is drawn out too much unless there are magic users in the group.

I like Dragonquest myself, which is half of what you're suggesting.

It's got relatively streamlined combat, mostly focused on tactical positioning but without a huge number of different attack options. It's also very quick and lethal with most setups.

However, there is quite a lot of magic, but magic is pretty useless in combat. Really powerful stuff requires extensive preparation and often has casting times of hours to days. It's the sort of a system where the fighters fight, and are there to protect the mage who does something exotic.

My DM wants to play a campaign set in Mystara.
It seems a bit bland to be honest.

Please bear with me for a moment here, /tg/, as I find myself in quite a pickle.

To keep it short, what would be the best system to play some Neptunia, keeping in mind that I'm a complete noob at tabletop games in general (unless you count Warhammer 40 000)?

To make it long, well, I know pretty much nothing. I started getting into GURPS to see if I could butcher it into accepting cute girls, but it's a bit too complex for a first game, so should I persevere or should I pick a different system?

FFd6 is pretty cool, in my experience. You could also try Fate, OVA, or BESM. Mekton Zeta is my personal favorite anime style system, but it's more for mecha, and not that much simpler than GURPS. You might also be interested in Maid RPG or Schoolgirl RPG. Probably not good for Nep-Nep, but pretty funny.

I've never run anything haunted before but I've run plenty of normal adventures. I'm just trying to step things up a little with this encounter.

the players have to meet up with and help a group of hunters who live in these woods.

the players will be entering the edge of the forest and run into their first problem, the cart will break down and the path is obstructed. i dont know what I'm going to do with their pets/mounts maybe ill have the bridge break and separate them so i dont have to worry about the pets and dont have to worry about splitting the party that wants to stay back with them.

once in the forest I'm planning on making most of the session a bunch of descriptors, pointing out creepy things happening and focusing on making this very creepy atmosphere. but do not know if this will just get boring for them.

i think something will be hunting them in the woods and trying to split them up to take them out but not sure everything it will be doing yet.

after they kill it then the path will be revealed. What can you guys recommend here? have you run a creepy forest in the past? what are some good creepy things that won't be red herrings?

also i think about making their food supplies become rotted.

If your players are so afraid that they want to stay back and protect their pets I think that is a good thing. Also, just establish that whatever is haunting this wood does not care about the animals. Have the mounts and pack animals not react to the what the fuckery is going on. The familiars can help in this regard as they have no idea what the fuck their wizards are freaking out over.

Good monsters are Lycanthropes, or Wolfweres. Undead like the various types of ghosts work, especially bring back the oldschool level drain. That'll put the fear in your players.
