>my anger-management issues friend who's never DM'd before is going to try to run a HERO 6e campaign
>one of the players described his character as "being able to shift to get some of the characteristics of all the worst monsters of Resident Evil"
>another described his character as a "mix between Spawn and the Punisher" who can possess demons
>other players are both generic edgy "lost their family and grew up on DA STREETS" antiheroes
Wat do /tg/
Also, what is the HERO system? It just seems like autistic Scion to me.

Okay tg, I'm gonna be running a campaign in the Forgotten Realms setting for the first time sometime in the the coming months. I've been doing a bit of reading on their wiki pages, but what are the biggest things to know? Can anyone give a basic break down of the Gods? (This is 5e)
Self bump
>>51385210
You're asking for a lot, because there's a ton of gods. Far more gods than necessary frankly, since there's a lot of overlap and also fancruft shit like the Egyptian gods. Your best bet really is the wiki. It's not like you have to read up on all of them, just the ones that actually are directly relevant to the campaign.
>>51385210
Do yourself a favor and restrict your canon. Pick a version of the realms and use that.
Also focus the game on one region at first. Every town looks the same if you scream by it at 85 on the freeway.
And take it from me--if you have one player in the group who's devoted to the novels and shit, it'll ruin everything. I used to love the old 2e boxed set (which was mostly a blank map with a gazetter that covered major countries with a short paragraph).
It's sort of like setting a campaign in Middle Earth... maybe there are fun adventures to be had there, but it's hard not to be hemmed in by the stories everyone already knows.
> The setting's genre is Lovecraftian Masquerade.
Weren't you here yesterday?

brilliant thread OP
a lot of information in the opening
>>51384015
When you ask for something like this it's a good idea to post details so that people know what they're getting into.
What are some neat things your dm does?
Mine will allow us to do Mission reports, character backgrounds, that sort of thing. Usually with some sort of xp bonus related to how much effort was put into it. I think it really helps keep the players invested in the feel and fluff of the game, instead of just the crunch.
>>51383438
My first DM did the same thing, including the XP bonus. Only the problem was there was only one guy who ever bothered to actually write anything and he was a complete sperglord. He'd reserve the start of every session for the sperglord to read aloud his report of the previous session, and literally nobody enjoyed it except the DM and the sperglord.
>>51383477
that sucks. We don't read our out or anything like that. just post em online for him to look at, and anyone else who wants to. One guy who's character is illiterate actually drew a short little comic with pictograms. Definitely wouldn't want to waste time trying to read my shit calligraphy over again
>>51383438
Whenever somebody makes a skill check related to information he PM's the player that succeeds and makes them tell the rest of the party the info in their own words.
Really helps with immersion.

trying to make a game that is a D&D world but the player characters are sci-fi
Im needing some more ideas and inspiration as the story and game is kinda free form in the paths it can take (players break game stories without trying to so i learned to make it open ended and free form)
-players get characters and tec from sci fi and are using them in a D&D setting
-kinda like some episodes of star trek where they go to a primitive planet
- they start with (magic = LOL and science is best)
-then they get to (WTF magic is real?)
-then (WTF magic is using super science that we space people are just barely starting to understand?)
-turns out planet they are on is just a good place to do weird physics stuff like make a pocket dimension or to a different reality
-"primitive" people that live on world just see it as a part of normal life and call it magic
-some have even gotten good at using it
got some side stories/mysteries for the players to find work out and solve and as none of my players are on 4chan i will tell you so you have an idea of what im trying
will post list next
Sounds like Warcraft but with a higher tech level for everyone but the Draenei.
>>51381697
>the fist and that is magic is real and a part of super physics that space people are only starting to understand and the natives treat it like its normal and even know more about it then them
>there is an old alien ship drifting in the solar system with this planet-- aliens had time distortion technology. ship is from the future and it's the tec that is broken that made this area of space act strange
>guy that hired PC's to explore this area kinda already knows about how special it is and sent them as a kind of canary in the coal mine to see if it will kill them- after they are not dead- he comes with a large battle ship to calm the whole solar system and the power that comes from knowing how to do real and practical magic
>guy that hired PC's is now bad guy and has gone mad with power and now has plan to take over not only this universe but several parallel ones as well
>turns out that humans may have gotten to this world long ago (like b4 space travel long) --- looks like time travel may have been used (question of if it may be the PC's that time travel and become the first humans on this world)
>>51382011
>strange ancient alien race that humans have found their old ships but never them and have no idea of who they are or where they came from or where they are still living
>its a huge mystery of the universe
>PC's find out that they are from the future
>space ghost stories and space bermuda triangle stuff is all real and it turns out that its all from ships encountering some of the effects of D&D magic
Post some of the strangest rules you've ever encountered in RPGs in this thread.

How would you go about a campaign revolving around Bielefeld, or maybe even set IN Bielefeld?
Yes, I know the idea is physically impossible, but so is vancian magic and FTL travel. Can it still be done, or does it stretch the suspension of disbelief too much?
>>51379495
Redpill me on EVERYTHING about this, because it looks like you just posted something randomly.
>>51379730
This is a fairly rare joke about the city of Bielefeld, Germany, which has a conspiracy about it that claims it doesn't actually exist. Basically, OP is asking for some Unknown Armies type shit about this conspiracy.
>>51379495
Try Unknown Armies, it's a good system for this.

I want to run an urban fantasy campaign but I don't know what the best system would be. What should I look in to? Also why do such awful pictures come up when I google urban fantasy?
>>51378742GURPS
I'd also like to know a good system. Been looking for one for a Hellboy-esque game for a while.
Savage Worlds for a high-action game. Use the Fantasy and Horror companions, especially the Horror one for stuff like paranormal investigators, silliness like silver nitrate rounds, more spells, the ability to play a werewolf etc.
>>51378789
The Atomic Robo RPG is considered pretty good for Hellboy.
>mu is a bilabial nasal and theta is an aspirated voiceless dental plosive
Why aren't fictional languages as weird as real languages?
Because fictional languages are made up.
Some few people have the education and training to invent a realistically detailed language, but unless it actually contributes to the story in a significant way, it's going to be wasted effort.
>>51378671
You described the sounds "m" and "th".
>>51379176
But anon there's the word "bilabial" in there, isn't that so weird ???
More seriously, OP's complaint is valid, but for the wrong reasons. I yearn for aliens who'd use a wide variety of clicks and very few vowels.
My biggest problem, though, is with writing systems. I can suspend my disbelief for shitty conlangs, but I can't handle "it's the roman alphabet but the symbols are slightly different, this constitutes the alien language".
