Looking for a system that is not D&D. Really anything which will fit in my high fantasy medieval campaign setting. What is RuneQuest like? Can I get a quick run?

Glorantha doesn't do medieval. Glorantha does vikings.

There is a distinct lack of castles and knights and ladies. If you can stomach vikings and halls and cattle instead, RuneQuest is decent.

Some absolutely adore its very deep setting, though I personally can't be bothered. The rule system is decent and work decently. Read the setting and decide if you are okay with dream quests, duck people, dragons and weirdness.
>>
>>52268944
half of RQ editions are setting agnostic and can do any pre-industrial period equally well.

And in case of glorantha, it's not vikings, it's bronze age mixed with lot of weird mythological shit that is even hard to describe in short

My number 1 rule about cosplay (if you're using it for cosplay) is to never ever make anything so heavy that it's inconvenient to carry around. And it's always worth having some way to hang it (comfortably) so you don't actually have to carry it with your hands. So solid metal or wooden anything is out of the question. Even if you're keeping it around for display I wouldn't even build it out of metal.

I would start with gluing together a bunch of PVC foam chunks and carve out the shape of what you want. Because it sounds like you have access to a machine shop i would just use a foam core and fabricate a metal exterior because real fucking metal always looks better than painted foam.

I wish I had a machine shop. Got a wood shop but when it comes to cosplay the only real application is turning something or making small badges and such.

Some of you may have seen my thread a few days ago enquiring as to the possible alternatives to a traditional turn/round based system for resolving combat situations. After much discussion and deliberation it seemed to me that the only real alternative is to use a "count-up" system in which combat proceeds with a series of arbitrarily defined "ticks" of time. Players then select their actions which have a fixed action tick cost and then actions are resolved after the set number of ticks for each action. I'm aware of several systems which have used something like this, the most well known being Hackmaster.

My real question today is to ask what your experience of such systems was like? My primary concern is pacing. Do you find that combat progresses too slowly? If so why does that happen and what do you feel could be done to improve it? What aspects of this system appealed to you the most and why? Any input would be highly appreciated as my ability to playtest my own system is hilariously limited.

>the only real alternative

You need to learn more systems. Why not check out something like a reaction system, which is commonly seen in modern wargames, for instance? Here's an example of one such system.

Then there are phased combats, and simultaneous resolution, and no-initiative cinematic systems, and probably some more besides.
>>
Tick systems tend to be clunky and difficult to balance. Honestly they seem to work better in videogames than tabletops.
>>
>>52267795

We can tell this hasn't been playtested because it's one of those things that sounds great in theory/whiteroom but fails miserably when you're trying to manage a 10-person combat where 4 people are trying to manage one complicated character a piece and a 5th person is trying to manage 6 different simple characters.

Real life doesn't work so well on CRON systems. Trust the playtests, they show the truth.

I really like gnomes as npcs. Kooky tinkerers or wacky pranksters or whatever. and if youre leaning into the fey aspect it can be cool but I just feel like gnome player characters have a tendency to be disruptive in a way that can frustrate the other party members.

Halflings on the other hand are just absolutely perfect for player characters

Hey guys, who is going to get into this?

I'm a huge Necromunda fan (currently painting all of the old 95-97 range) and this looks like a remake with all of the 40k factions.

Plus maybe we will get a Necromunda actual if this is popular or FW might do something. Fingers crossed.

I'm getting the terrain for sure to use in 40k. Hopefully I can get more than one set, and for a good deal. If I can get the rules too to play Necromunda once in a while that'd be cool as well. Have no use for the models though which are no doubt packaged into the price.

There is talk of prosthetic limbs abound, but many seem quite simple in their design so can't do complex/fine motor movement. Designs from as far back as the American civil war still see widespread use.

More advanced models rely on muscle twitches from surviving living tissue, but what would need to be learned to enable humanity to create actual prosthetic limbs up to (and perhaps beyond) fine motor movement? And comprising of artificial muscles that can be linked to the mind?

Asked this of /g/, but you guys are more creative thinking so it's worth a try.

>>
>>52266224
The issue has never been, "Can it be done?" because it absolutely can be done, and has before. There are all sorts of devices that use artificial muscles and artificial synapse tissues to move limbs as if they're real, and enable their users to have an extremely fine degree of control.

The issue is, "Can it be done cost-effectively?" which is an entirely different question all together.

TL;DR the answer to the last question is, "We're getting there." Research into stem cells, polymers, and biomechanical systems are advancing daily, but shit is still just too expensive to make large-scale for the average person.
>>
>>52266370
This. I'd give it about 15-20 years until a reasonably fine-control prosthetic would be in the price range that an insurance company might pay for it or could be reasonably afforded by someone in the middle class.
>>
>>52266370
Control is a huge issue. Reading electric stimuli through remaining flesh has a certain bandwidth limitation, and is inaccurate, and the user has to be retrained in the limb's use in an awkward way.

Other crap like plugging wires directly into the nerves instead builds up scar tissue and isn't quite figured out yet. One promising solution is plugging crap directly into the brain, like the Braingate from DARPA, which you might find amusing.

We can build really damn fine, dexterous, sexy, vibrating limbs, it's just how they are controlled and whether or not they have any sensory feedback that is the issue. Someone actually knowledgeable on this can feel free to correct me.

I just want to shoot another thanks to the anon who gave us HH7: Inferno. I was looking online for a really high quality version of the OP pic, and the one in the .pdf is essentially the best out there.

Anyone have any recommendations on what colours you'd use to get that scheme down on your models? I'm not that good at judging it by eye.

If I want to write a primer/setting guide handout for my players, what information should I cover and how long should it ideally be? When will I know that it's gotten too long?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.

It depends on your players

Ideally I guess it should be no longer than what they could read on a lunch break. It's not like you could give them a fucking 300 pages setting book anyway, right?

You just need to answer these questions.

What is the deal with my cleric's religion?
Where can we go to buy standard equipment?
Where can we go to get platemail custom fitted for this monster I just befriended?
Who is the mightiest wizard in the land?
Who is the greatest warrior in the land?
Who is the richest person in the land?
Where can we go to get some magical healing?
Where can we go to get cures for the following conditions: poison, disease, curse, level drain, lycanthropy, polymorph, alignment change, death, undeath?
Is there a magic guild my MU belongs to or that I can join in order to get more spells?
Where can I find an alchemist, sage or other expert NPC?
Where can I hire mercenaries?
Is there any place on the map where swords are illegal, magic is outlawed or any other notable hassles from Johnny Law?
Which way to the nearest tavern?
What monsters are terrorizing the countryside sufficiently that if I kill them I will become famous?
Are there any wars brewing I could go fight?
How about gladiatorial arenas complete with hard-won glory and fabulous cash prizes?
Are there any secret societies with sinister agendas I could join and/or fight?
What is there to eat around here?
Any legendary lost treasures I could be looking for?
Where is the nearest dragon or other monster with Type H treasure?
