Panini released the Awakening expansion packs just a couple months back. Anyone still play or collect the cards? The game is still fun as fuck!
The new show Dragon Ball Super just came out a few years ago so I'm thinking about hopping back on the TCG boat. What does /tg/ think of Dragonball Z and the Trading Card Game?
It's trash, play the Score version instead.
Politely saged.
>>52265060
Score has less limitations and rules applied to the card game itself and it's the dead version of the game. For example you only had to have 3 levels of your main personality instead of the legitimate 4. It's sucks dude.
Thanks but I'll stick with Panini.
>>52265026
Panini dropped the game. It is "officially" dead. The players have taken up arms to keep it alive, dubbing it "FanZ". Look at forums like Dbztoptier.com for news about it.
>>52265060
>>52265142
Yeah, Score was the OG. The only reason Panini picked up the game for awhile is because Score players kept it going at big events like Gencon. It was just a cash grab by Panini, and it sucked.
>THIS TOO SHALL PASS
Here's the challenge, /tg/. Look at this smug motherfucker. Just laying there. Sleeping. Just.. Zzzz. Get a job, you sleepy guy. Fuck. Or better yet, die.
Maximum damage for a Pathfinder character in a single attack. It can be any build, be it Dex or Strength. Don't worry about rolling a critical; he's right there. Sleeping. Coup de Grace will just plain do an X8 damage. So, your challenge is to, in a single melee attack, do as much damage as possible. Not multi-strike. Just one mighty whack.
Multiple-strikes are not necessary. You just need to do an astrological amount of damage in one attack.
You may use any Paizo sponsored or accepted source materials for weapons, race stats, feats, class builds. The damage can have an element of magic to it, but it must be delivered via a weapon and primarily be a martial attack with numeric damage, not a spell. Enchants and spells can enhance, but the point is to whack.
Assume your DM will be stringent with prerequisites and strict when it comes to 3rd party sources.
Bonus: Character build max damage for levels 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30.
Extra credit: No sneak attack.
>>52264963
CORRECTION:
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat/#coup-de-grace
>You automatically hit and score a critical hit. If the defender survives the damage, he must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage dealt) or die. A rogue also gets her extra sneak attack damage against a helpless opponent when delivering a coup de grace.
You may take class features or weapons that improve crit multiplier.
>>52264963
>Don't worry about rolling a critical; he's right there.
You don't roll to hit for a coup de grace, and it is an automatic critical
>Coup de Grace will just plain do an X8 damage.
That's not how they work.
Rolled 6, 4, 8, 5 + 78 = 101 (4d10 + 78)
Boring entry-level cheese here.
Two-Handed Figher 3/Bloodrager 1/Mutagenic Mauler 1.
Base 20 Strength + Bloodraging (+4) + Mutagen (+4) = 28 Strength (+9 Strength Mod).
Using a Tetsubo (1d10) two-handed, x4 crit modifier. Overhand Chop doubles your strength mod for the purposes of damage with a two-handed weapon and Power Attack is boosted by 1.5. BAB 5 so Power Attack bonus is 4 x 1.5 = 6 and bonus from Strength is 9 x 2 = 18.
4d10 + 6 + 4(18) at level 5.
Hey /tg/ is there some kind of Roleplaying Game with X-Com feeling?
I mean the "take Alien stuff and protect the Earth" kind of feeling.
>>52264802
Only War, while not expressly for it, should work pretty good.
Delta Green?
Mutants and Masterminds can work with that sort of thing. Just bump the PL down for PCs at the start.

Why in the seven hells was Lord of the Rings the template for Dungeons and Dragons, and not Conan?
Conan came first.
Actually has sorcerers.
Actually has dungeons with loot.
Actually has adventuring all over the world, and taking on many professions.
Actually has a class of people called "Adventurers".
Actually features more than 3 women.
Also loosely tied to the Cthulhu mythos.
Are the different species of humanoids that important? Fuck elves and dwarves. Just be a fem aristocrat or stout barbarian.
>>52263133
Because Conan focuses on a single hero, while LoTR was about an adventuring party.
>>52263152
Not true. Both Conan and Kull had lots of travelling companions and comrades.
>>52263133
LotR wasn't the template for D&D.
I'm not sure where you got you information, but it is incorrect. Tolkein races were included despite the template for D&D. The first published adventure is against space aliens in a castle populated by time-travelling frog men protecting a genetic-manipulation machine.
LotR is pretty incidental to the history of D&D.
I'm not experienced enough with 5e to know better, but I'm thinking of making it a house rule that CON modifier + armor AC is DR, and that raw DEX + shield AC negates hits. How muchwill this fuck the balance of the game?
1st rule of the houserules: Don't.
>>52262094
Does that DR easily exceed low level mob's attack dice?

Hey /tg/, I started a Dawn of World's game with some friends last week. The first session was a little bumpy, but still lots of fun.
For those not in the know, here is a link to the pdf.

Has anyone else played DoW? I once played it here on /tg/, but the game fell apart after maybe 5 or 6 turns.
House rules? Problems? Suggestions?
Some questions that my group hasn't yet answered:
What are avatars supposed to do? are they just a cheap bonus action?
Movement. How far can armies/avatars move in a turn?
One house rule that I implemented is that we didn't start with a continent, but instead just started filling in a void. We decided the Shape Land action fills 3 hexes worth of terrain.
>>52260185
gonna bump this, it's falling under all the generals.
Anyone played DoW?
I have.I'm also one of the dirty questfags
Avatars are an additional action, but they're also the heroes of the world. They're the big movers and shakers in the fictions, the noble dynasties and legendary sages that give the world some history and colour. Some things (like Command Avatar>Create Race) are only supposed to work once.
There's no movement rate afaik.
Here's a review of it, one of the devs is in the comments and gives some good feedback on updates he would make to the game. That's where the avatar limit comes from, along with some other house rules I use.
http://www.gnomestew.com/game-mastering/tools-for-gms/collaborative-world-building-dawn-of-worlds/
>>52261891
Cool, I'll give this a read. Thanks for coming over to /tg/ as well.
I'm considering letting Avatars fight as if they were an army, so long as the god controlling the avatar pays the cost to raise an army. If it is defeated, then the avatar is reduced to a weakened state and can't fight other armies.
Movement seems important not for the sake of realism, but for allowing reaction. If an army marches and smashes a city all in one turn, you've got no chance to defend or use Catastrophe or something.
I'm considering that an army moves on a turn, and then can attack something at its destination on the following turn. This gives a chance for other armies to arrive to defend the thing, or for another army to flee.
Seems like DoW could really use a Second Edition. I downloaded Microscope, because I heard it was similar, and while it looks like an amazing game, its not really what I want for DoW.

Sorry the thread died before I could respond. I'd say instead of completely covering up the auric highlight, leave some of it showing when you do the silver edge highlight so the transition is less harsh.
Never tried linking to a dead thread so sorry if it doesn't work, it's for Chaos Dwarf anon.
Just finished my Vampire lord, advice and criticisms welcome since I'm still a beginner.
What are some interesting field exercises for a squad of players in a WW1 era setting?
I am using D&D 5th edition rules.
There are 5 players with 10 NPC cadets under their command.
They will be fighting with rifles, swords, and non-lethal magic against a company of cadets in a series of field exercises.
>>52257661
You serious OP? I can dig stuff up if you want.
>>52260295
I am super serious.
I have like 2 and half hours before I GM the game. I have an NPC platoon ready, but my plans are lacking for the next few weeks.
Hook me up please.
So I was reading Miss Militia's interlude recently and realised she shouldn't have seen some of the things she did.
Miss Militia is a natural trigger cape (confirmed by Eden her/him/it's-self, meaning the visions she saw would have been from scion's memories(that's just how shards work for some reason.) However Scion parted ways with Eden *before* she crashed, so scion wouldn't have been able to see that happening.
Also, worm thread.
>>52257362
It's not like Zion is blind to his partner's location, he would see Eden approaching the planet, just from afar when their communications break. Until they actually landed they were sending messages back and forth constantly and were aware of their respective statuses.
But Hannah didn't see Eden crashing. She intuited it, but her flashback terminated just before Eden actually made contact.
Why does every new parahuman think that the best way to use their powers is to beat up gang bangers with 0 training instead of more constructive and safer things?
Post some /tg/-related comics, webcomics, etc.I have preference of the DnD kind, actually but anything is great too.
If you haven't read this D&D comic, you should vacate the board

Yeah?
There's the Gray (Ethereal), the Black (afterlife/Shadow), the Elemental planes (fire, earth, wind, water), and the Paraelementals (sun, silt, magma, rain).
Do you have a specific question?
>>52249739
>Barker?
Yep.
>Which dungeon?
Famously, the Underworld of Jakálla was the dungeon Barker ran in OD&D, and eventually, as his house rules accumulated, in EPT.
>Link me, anon.
Sorry, no can do. Like all the grand dungeons of the Oldest Days, it was never published or otherwise released. The best I can do is link you to this by Dyson: https://rpgcharacters.wordpress.com/maps/my-private-jakalla/

>>52255533
Maybe instead of making the orcs automatically evil, just make them like any other primitive culture.
They want to survive and thrive.
>villain is weak, not extremely intelligent, pathetic, unlikable, and prone to being mocked
>all the townsfolk hate him and ridicule him behind his back
>he's still crafty, ruthless, and vicious, and has tremendous power purely through the lengths he's willing to go to fulfill his schemes
Why don't we see more of these?
>>52254985
Is this a joke? It's because the PCs are going to kill him. If all his good qualities are off-screen, he's not going to make for a good boss-fight.
If he can't really impress the players as to why he's bad, he'll just die messily and without much ceremony. If a villain isn't at least good-looking or charismatic, he's unlikely to have a large-tier plot: A guy whom everyone hates can't pull off a massive, world-ending conspiracy on his own.
>>52255002
If to you, a good villain is all about a good climactic boss fight, just give him some powerful bodyguards. Bonus points if you reinforce the idea that this man is a coward - have him cowering the whole fight, or taking cheap shots then running away when they fail.
>>52255002
That's why the main villain has a a second-in-command who's strength and combat prowess is exceeded only by his seemingly irrational loyalty to said main villain.
