Second for playing with fully painted armies and no bare resin.

Does anyone remember which sculptor was jacking off about Sanguinius? I want to know what other models he has made.

>forgot my list at home but mostly remembered what I was going to run

>see that my bike + knight list outnumbered my opponents TS, at this point I became somewhat worried that I accidentally brought too many units

>completely table my opponent, start feeling very anxious that I had brought way more army than I should have

>went home, checked my list

>not only did I not bring too many units, I had actually forgotten to bring my scorpius and that I had bought melta bombs for my praetor.

Well I can say for absolute certainty that atrapos are fucking overpowered, Jesus
>>
>>52252052
Hell yeah.

>>52252315
Makes me wonder if we overestimated Thousand Sons. What'd he run? What'd you run? How do the bikes work for you?
>>
>>52252052
>no decals
>"fully painted"
bruh
>>
>>52252315
See, thousand sons are not actually broken, they're costed pretty heavily and have actual drawbacks. I havent seen magnus take the field yet, only a pride list with Ahriman, but i'm tempted to agree with the doomsayers in that Magnus will be broken enough to centralise competitive gameplay. Which doesnt matter to me, since i dont do tournaments.

Son. I am disappoint. It's like making Death Guard that don't look like they've been dunked in the septic tank.
>>
>>52252462
I think a lot of the initial panic over Sekhmets was due to thinking that "may choose its powers from the Telekinesis or Pyromancy disciplines" meant they didn't have to roll. But they're the same base price as Justaerin (which surely no one disputes are top-tier after the latest red book) and cheaper to take more than 5. Sekhmets lose -1 WS, Furious Charge, and Implacable Advance but gain force weapons and psychic powers. I still think they're undercosted.

The rest of the army (Magnus excepted) seems like it's costed fine.
>>
>>52252753
Yeah, choosing powers was the really over-the-top thing for sekhmets, now they're merely really good instead of leaving all competition in the dust, which i have no problem with unless someones spamming 40 of them. Blade Cult and their scouts seem fine, sekhmets are great, and their characters are better than generic equivalents simply because they dont pay 75 points on top of being a base praetor and gear.
>>
>>52252172
I remember Angron, from a previous thread because he's one of my favorite Primarch models out so far.
>>
>>52247177
I'm being dense, can anyone explain how bananas can become impossible to hit? I can see how they get it down to 5+ (most marines hit them on 4s, then -1 for the shield) but can't work out how they lower things further.
>>
Are there any pics of what the plastic Chaos Space Marine/Khorne Berserker armour (Anvilus Mark V?) looks like "de-chaosified"? Do you think FW will ever make sets of them like they did for the other marks?
And is there fluff in the modern Horus Heresy books about the pattern of backpacks the Berzerkers have, like there is for the mainstream CSM backpacks?
>>
>>52253292
Its in reference to invisibility, which forces everything to ws1 in CC, so hitting on sixes, i.e. hitting on sevens. So some smug asswipe is probably going to try to bring a shield tribune, a Knight Errant psyker and a full unit of shield Hets to a tournament and claim them unhittable
>>
>>52253339
Ah, gotcha.
>once again, superfriends ruins everything
>>
>>52253402
Not really, its just a case of Invisibility being hilariously broken, once again.
>>
>>52253339
Seems like a waste, since when is a full squad of Hets + Shield Captain going to loose CC anyway?
And that's ignoring the fact that that's ~1300 hundred points

Huge 6v6 battle to end 30k campaign has been played. Was quite the battle with 3000 points per person.

Some highlights from my area of the battlefield :
>Despite my veterans shooting it with meltaguns and the laser-destroyer rapiers firing at it, an enemy contemptor survives with a single hullpoint. Only to be blown up by the opponents own deathstorm drop pod next turn. Just as planned.
>One of my Tactical squads is wiped out except for a single marine by the opponents MoS bombardment. This was the squad which I used Alpharius' One Of Many rule on, so that last marine was actually Alpharius.
>Alpharius joins the remains of one of my veteran squads. They charge an enemy tactical squad and wipe it out, losing every veteran but the sergant in the process.
>In the enemy shooting phase Alpharius and the sergant are shot at. Because the sergant is the closest model, I try to LO,S! the hit to Alpharius to keep the sergant alive. Every single LO,S! roll fails ... but every single armoursave is passed.
>Alpharius joins a tactical squad and goes off to clean up the remaining marines of the opponent. The lone sergant continues on to kill a landspeeder, the deathstorm drop pod, survive being shot at by a meltagun wielding marine and being charged by said marine, after which he crushes him with his powerfist. At the end of the battle, the sergant is still alive.
>One of my tactical squads that arrives a bit late from reserves actually happens to be at the right place at the right time, as they could deploy in the ideal position to prevent terminators charging out of a darkwing storm eagle from charging my allies' knight porphyrion.
>The same tactical squad then kills 5 enemy WE tactical marines with their bolters, stabs the WE praetor to death whilst only losing their sergant after being charged, and kill 2 of the terminators that came out of the darkwing.
>>
>>52252052

Next level will be no plastic.

This one's actually hard as fuck since a lot of FW kits use some plastic.

>>
>>52253769
No what I meant is using a darker bronze on the lower areas to create more depth. On the dread and tank you can also see that it still looks like a flat gold surface. But giving large gold models a painting scheme that is interesting to look at is difficult.

>>
>>52254104
Oh it does matter, as 1w powerfist terminators vs 2w powerfist terminators almost always means the 2w terminators lose combat due to losing a higher number of wounds, even if they kill more of the 1w terminators.

i am actually curious as to how you come to that conclusion when sekhmets were not even mentioned, but you're just shitposting anyway
>>
>>52253920
Alongside the Emperor Himself. I'm phoneposting, but many examples can be found in the Fists section in HH3. Hillariously, that'd mean Khârn has it too, since he fought alongside Him and Perturabo when he was young.
Perhaps it only applies to Emperor-led Unification campaigns, though.
>>
>>52253920
Raptor Imperialis indicates unification actions. It predates the Legions personal heraldry as the first universal symbol of the Legions.

It began with the Thunder Legion who bore it originally, then was carried by the earliest Legions participating in the conflict.

>>
>>52254243
And outside of one autist telling me about how that couldn't be a Thunder Warrior because all Thunder Warriors where blue I received positive comments all around with just a singular suggestion to highlight with fulgurite copper and maybe add some bits to the bases.

I have another base that has Typhus corrosion beneath it, the texture magnified the drying effect of the Martian iron earth.
>>
>>52254260

>>
>>52254291
>>52254264
That's not true, a few people (myself included) said it looks over-weathered, to the point that the armour looks like its seized up and wouldn't actually be able to move. You just ignored those remarks because you didn't like them. "Positive comments all around" indeed.
>>
>>52254275
sorry, my friendly meta is filled with spooky D-ghosts, so I don't survive any better with more wounds :^)
>>
>>52254293
at that point it just feels like being beaten over the head with it.
>>
>>52254284

They are powerful, that is true. but i feel they took a page from Tzeenchian Chaos armies in Fantasy 6th Ed with very much the same drawbacks, low numbers and no way to prevent mindbullets going wrong, the upside being that they are capable of unleashing some of the largest barrages of powers in the game (again, much like 6th Fantasy Tzeentch WoC)

My only real gripe is that Magnus is underpriced, Sekmets need to lose their picking powers and the Court of the Crimson king needs to reworked. Other then that, i feel they are mostly fine.
>>
>>52254308
im trying to push a corrosion via radiation/+ crazy technology that's corrupted the war zone too.

The overall mental image is of a small band of Thunder Warriors that have fought theough and escaped the culling that also have a few progenoid glands to make more Thunder Warriors.

I wanted to press that feeling of weathering through unknown means. Yeah?

There aren't any clear replications of that sort of effect. So when you say that the armor looks weathered to the point of seizing and being non functional, the overall intent was to create that sort of
Impression. It's an objective victory, now to push the theme I want and make it believable is where I'm looking for further criticism. I do apologize for the positive marks comment. I'm looking to further stamp the idea out and need advice Anon,

A combination of Cadian Goggles + top knot, cadian + Rebreather+ top knot, MkII with top knot, MKIII with top knot. I'm experimenting with using Age of sigmar chaos Warriors plate legs + leather boots for some of the models as well.

All models will be receiving a MKII or MKIII shoulder pad with the raptor imperialis. (I'm casting these myself)
>>
>>52254374
Your unfinished test model that you keep posting looks like a very uncared-for bronze sculpture. It does not look like it could be a real suit of armour that could move, or be of any protection further than old bronze. The crackle base is a decently different colour shade (could do with looking more like real ground though) but the crackle just adds to the impression of your mini being something that's stood still and went to fuck for a very long time.

So, the positive comment from me is that you have successfully painted and based something that looks like a lump of old metal.
A negative consequence however, is that it doesn't look like a cool PA model and I fear a whole army will look stupid, especially larger models.

Also, fucking finish it. Half done test models are almost worst than unpainted ones that get posted like we're supposed to be impressed someone can glue objects together.

Still building up my Dangles army, started at 1500 and finished a few 2500 last night. Been working with Ironwing Protocol and I've been doing real well so far. I've been keeping my Heavy Support slots filled with Vindicators, Predators and a Leviathan and it's time I'm trying to switch things up.

Is a squadron of Land Raiders worth working into my list? I have some Tactical Support Squads sitting around, thinking about giving them plasma repeaters and sticking them in a Proteus with my melee Veterans in a Phobos.

The BS bump is nice and all but I have some reserves. Should I sink my points into a squad of Raiders or should I look else where?

First off if you painted that Marine great job it's awesome.
Second javelin speeders are great now after the points drop. They should do fine killing all the light vehicles and artillery.
The dorito seems out of place... and why even pay for the vexilla in SA, you HAVE to reroll the highest dice if you fail a test to begin with... it's like a free vex anyways.
>>
>>52256217

I find the flesh of newborns is easiest to sculpt into Gal Vorbak, though as always the really tricky part is getting it to hold it's shape as you mummify it to avoid rotting.
>>
>>52254234

No, it's not mine, I don't even play SA. I'm helping a friend get into HH.

I see what you mean with the Dorito, any ideas for replacements? Though as is it's a good source of AA and removing pretty much any light ground forces, though perhaps redundant with all the other stuff. He just likes Dreadnoughts, and a Leviathan seemed overkill.

I love Javelins, and they're fantastic, but my point is more that it's 200-something burgerbucks for 3 models that can easily get ruined by a new player.

Also good point about the vexilla. I'll just give the MEQs meltabombs instead
>>
>>52256351

Hmmmmm, approximately what consistency should the flesh of the newborn be? How soft am I looking for?

Should the newborn have eczema or rough skin to further simulate texture?
>>
>>52256460

No no, you don't use the skin, you flay the baby and use the meat underneath.

Didn't you watch Duncan's tutorial?

Firedrakes are the top of the top tier.

Justaerins were garbage until the Age of Darkness red book gave them 2W, and now they're usually thought of as being up there, along with Siege Tyrants.

Or you can compare Sekhmets to Phoenix Terminators, Gorgons, and Lernaeans - that makes the Sekhmets look good for sure.
>>
>>52256549
They're certainly viable, but they're a bit like an All-beepboop or Knight only list where you either stomp effortlessly or get obliterated by anyone prepared with S10 arty and such. You want to avoid shit like 3++ rerollable Tribunes and D-stick Dread spam, but the rest is OK.
>>
>>52256415
You have a dual Kheres Contemptor Mortis. You got AA covered, at least for the normal 'one lightening with all the penetrators' folks bring to kill Spartans.
If he likes dreads go Leviathan. Between two land Raiders full of punchy dudes AND a fat dread rushing forward, the enemy will have to make some tough life choices in target priority. Will also give the speeders time to pop shit, and the Mortis to get into a good mid field position.
Also Machine spirit on the Vindicators if you can. Not!Fast Vindicators scare everything but Flare shielded Spartans.

I don't play nearly enough games to give good advice, but a couple of things to keep in mind for Salamanders. Vexillas are fairly cornercase thanks to the ability to reroll one of the dice when you fail a leadership check. For your Praetor, it's important to note that he can get a 3++ in artificer armor for 5 points cheaper than teminator armor without trading his gun for the shield. If you really want the terminator command squad then it doesn't matter, but it's something to keep in mind.

>>52253722
Yeah, those look very flat, try to get a better picture, otherwise I can't comment a lot. The bases and tank look stellar anyway, but the gold is either too flat or washed out in the pic.

>>52254225
While I agree that three colours plus a wash is extremely lazy, I'm also glad that at least some people post painted armies in here, especially since lately we've been getting a ton of newfags and spergs that bring no models, no contribution, only shitposting. This thread needs more models.

>>52254234
That looks sortra flat and lackluster, it needs some rubble or at least rocks to add more variation and make it interesting.
The model on the other hand needs still a lot of work, as it stands it lacks distinct details, the scheme blends in too much with the base and it's overall messy. There's potential in it though.

>>52254406
Dude, don't drybrush metals, it looks dusty and plain lazy. Try to learn proper highlighting, add scratches and battle damage here and there, that mini looks like a status, as >>52254431 says, and not in a good way.

>>52255795
Looking good m8, lightning could be a bit cleaner.
Is the blue metallic?

>>52256791
That will only give the models some rosy-red splotches all over. For blood effects to work, you need to use a paint that's both got a degree of translucency and gloss, otherwise it just looks like red paint smears, which over the white models will most definitely look pink.
>>
>>52257138

I'm not too sure due to not fighting them yet, but the shield dudes are by far the best troop choice, and even with all them you'll be fitting about 35 bodies in a 2k list. If you want a goodly proportion of cool toys, I expect that'd be closer to 25.
You're the undisputed kings of melee, but even with arae-shrikes you won't last long for your points facing down something like a Reductor Vindicator squadron or Dracosans. Oddly enough, the army of T5 W2 2+ 5++ are glass cannon on a tactical level. Get in close fast and pick your targets.

Just spent a good chunk of this month's pay check on my first units. Getting myself a World Easters tactical squad, a bunch of chain-axes and a Spartan tank to carry them in. It's good to join you, brothers.

Is it weird that I don't really like the Praetor models? I dunno, I guess it bugs me that you have to buy a seperate weapons kit if you don't want what they're packing.

Also, why the heck do they sell Assualt Marines in groups of 5, when a basic unit is 10?

forgeworld is bad at numbers
alternatively fantasy flight is absolutely horrendous at numbers

If you're talking about the GW numbers, that's because they're based on the average civilian knowledge of tank capabilities back in the mid-late 80's.

>>52261914

the Basilisk is essentially a WWI gun mounted a APC chassis.
Starting with the gun, its uses a screw breech, rather then a sliding breech commonly found on modern artillery, this means that the loader cannot load the gun while its in elevation, as such, the gun needs to return a lower elevation, at which point the loader can open the breech, and ram in a new charge and projectile. This essentially brings your rate of fire down from 6-10 rounds per minute a meager 3 or 4 if you are lucky.
Secondly, the Basilisk has a commander a loader and a gunner on the back platform, which means that the loader has to ram in both the projectile, needs to go back, grab the propellant, ram in the propellant, close the breech, elevate the gun and then the gunner fires.
the M109 uses a pair of loaders, one that rams in the shell, and one that rams in the propellant, reducing the time between shots.

Then there is the Tank itself, apart from the mess that is the gun and its system, there is no turret or any form of lateral movement in the gun, which means the gun needs to be aimed by turning around the tank, again, slowing down the maximum rate at which the Basilisk can fire. Secondly, the crew is completely exposed, making it incredibly vulnerable to counter battery fire. Most modern day systems solve this by either an enclosed firing compartment (like the Armageddon pattern), or by being highly mobile, or most commonly, both the Basilisk is neither
>>
>Basilisk
Its main weapon is the Earthshaker Cannon, firing 132mm shells to a range of over fifteen kilometers and a muzzle velocity of 814 m/s.

Maybe, but check the scale - there is what appears to be an access point on the gigantic-ass Gatling gun behind those flowing banners on its right side. Considering also the scale of the people in the foreground, I'd say it's an access point (possibly a big one at that). If you want to get truly theoretical, those statues in the windows next to the BC can't be anything less than human size, and are likely far larger considering this is Warhammer. If they aren't BCs, they are something larger.

The autocannons on the Salamander and Exterminator are quite a bit larger than what you find on regular guardsmen.

Also, at least in old art, you could see some dudes manning those parapets on the titan's shoulders. It's not THAT massive of a structure. So that spotlight on the right shoulder, for example, would be closer to what you find on most vehicles, rather than some huge bat signal.

Have a look, the breech cannot be opened when the gun is at elevation because the way it hinges and the fact the Chassis is in the way.
The Paladin circumvents this by way of the gun is located in the Turret, which would allow for firing at elevation,

An argument can be made that the M109 is a bit past its prime, given the fact that the modern Euro howitzers far outclass it in terms of rate of fire. (The CEASAR is the exception, but that is literally an icecream truck with a gun, because the French wanted it to be capable of airlifting)

>The CEASAR

For a second I thought you were talking about the Swedish(?) gun truck. I watched some documentary about it and what struck me was that the breech closes on a timer, giving the loader a few seconds to pop a new shell in. How long do you think it'll take before someone loses a finger to that thing?

Does tg have a problem with recasts

I bought some small stuff via FW but was thinking of getting some recast tanks
>>
>>52263726
I'm going to save 10 of the Mk III's from my BoP box for that purpose, with the rest probably being traded to folks at my local store who are grabbing BoP for something other than Sisters and Custodes. What traitor legion's colours I use will be something I decide on later.

One thing I do plan on is have the Galatus stomping down on a traitor marine and killing him, and perhaps have half another laying nearby, cut in half by the sword.

I'll get the Achillus with my tax return, since I'll need to grab the necessary HH game books too, and want to buy everything in one go for free shipping (and FW is also a lot easier to deal with than eBay, if the spear is fucked up out of the box). Was thinking of having him impaling someone on his spear, but that's 'been done'.
>>
>>52263799

CCoN recast. I thought he had switched from yellow to grey but maybe its an older one.

>>52263820

Fuck no, FW is unbelievably profitable and could single handedly keep GW afloat.

Stuff like assault squads that cost nearly the same in $$ for plastic as the FW resin you should buy straight from FW.

If you only want 1 super heavy, buying from FW aint a big deal either.

But for multiples of plain tanks, especially rhino chassis? Nobody can blame you for going with a recast.

This is putting it lightly.

Javelins cost more in dollars than they do in points from FW. Recasts are almost the only way to have a decent squadron of them without blowing as much cash as a super heavy would cost.

>>
>>52263866
>>52263866
Personal recommendation is to think the Siege of Terra and what traitors were there. Even the Thousand Sons are shown to have a contingent present on Terra during the Siege.

If I can recommend a pose for the Galatus I suggest it battering a marine aside with the shield, and the Achillus thrusting the spear forward since it can hold the Dreadspear in one or both hands.

>>52264039

The Lucius vs FW Mars have about the same proportions on the skeleton, its just the shoulder turrets on the FW Mars are fucking enormous compared to the more modest turbolasers on the Lucius.

The other thing is that the epic Lucius has a very skinny waist while the FW Mars is a bit thicker.

The FW Mars guns are also bigger on its body compared to the epic Lucius, its probably just scale creep rather than any height difference.

Tl;DR they're differences between 5mm and 28mm scale and are far from not being rectifiable.
>>
>>52264039
>It's taller

>and more upright.

In what way? The torso looks to be a little taller, but other than that, it's got the same profile. Square shoulder plates, square plate over the head, square plates on the torso, square plates on the thighs, crotch and chins. Same locations the Mars has round plates.

Lets face it, anon, if they're ever gonna make a Lucius, a conversion kit is about the most you're gonna get. Why would they make the same thing twice? They already got rid of the Lucius Warhound.
>>

I bought a Caladius and Galatus from FW; then bought an Ixion Hale, Achillus, Galatus, and Coronus recast set for the price of both FW purchases.

>the shoulder turrets on the FW Mars are fucking enormous

Because FW and people just keep using the triple barreled blasters instead of the twin turbo-lasers. Probably because FW hasn't put the ones on the Realm of Battle Imperial Primus Redoubt into sale, even though they look awfully lot like ones that would fit the Warlord's shoulders.

Is there any kind of rough release schedule? There's been so much news lately I'm not sure if FW has that kind of transparency

Magnus is coming out during the May event. Sanguinius sometime after that.

Welcome to the Legion, Brother.

Convert a dude, it's the only way to make sure you get an HQ you like.

Question: What size is the minimum point amount for you to have to fun with? I mean, at what point do you feel that the game really excels at what it's trying to do, and is the suggested game size.

Absolute minimum would be 2500 imo, with the real fun starting at 3000.

Unless you're talking about Zone Mortalis, which is great at 1000-1500

If you can play zone mortalis with your group, 1000 points is more than enough.

3000 is where the game is really balanced for, 2000 may be a bit low.
