>So, your party have finally defeated the BBEG.
>As you enter the treasure room, after disabling the traps, you first find a discouragingly small treasure, a few dozens gold coins and some magical trinkets, barely enough to heal your companions and live off for a few weeks.
>However, in the centre of the room, surrounded by all kind of protections, there's a painting.
>According to the BBEG's diary, the painting is worth literally millions upon millions of gold coins, a treasure way ahead of its time.
>Unfortunately, the nobles through the entire continent are a bunch of uncultured swines who can't fully appreciate its value.
>"But one day, people will awake from their ignorance, and then they will appreciate it as the revolutionary masterpiece it is. Lords and peasants by equal, all will cry at its radiant beauty, and the war won't spoil this castle out of fear to harm it".
How do your party reacts?
Gotta be a shitty DM to be telling us about the painting as we see it and not seeing whether we remember the painting prior or not.
Also tear up the painting and slap anything dirty and liquid around the room on it. I'll be remembered for ruining it longer than the painting would be remembered.
>>52281835
A thing is worth exactly what it's purchaser will pay for it.
So right now, that painting is worth next to nothing.
Somewhere out there, someone who's going to become famous is holding an item that will be worth a thousand time's it's usual value. Sinatra's shoes. Bono's cock wax.
But right now? It's worth nothing at all.
Value is not a fundamental constant. One gold piece isn't worth anything on the continent made of gold.
>>52281982
By the way OP is worded, and using a Van Gogh painting (which, you know, could never made a living out of his paintings), I think he's implying the painting isn't a forgotten treasure, but an undiscovered one.
So the party is in possession of something that was recently created, and in their context/age is worthless. But the previous owner is convinced some day will be worth a metric shit ton of money.
Imagine Da Vinci giving away the Mona Lisa to your grand-grandparent, and becoming just a heirloom for you and your descendants.
Would you agree with the statement "you can't claim to be strong if you don't save the weak?"
>>52281834
See this guys gets it.
Just think about it yourself. You will come to the right conclusion logically. Don't have other people think for you.
>>52281834
The fuck kind of mental gymnastics is that? It's clearly a blatant attempt to shackle the 'strong' to whoever's considered 'weak' in the search for fairness. They just want the powerful to have no recourse other than continuously sucking their cocks while constantly mindful of saving and protecting the weak, the innocent, civilians, order, etc. The powerful are never meant to be proactive or ambitious, they must always be submissive to the will of those less powerful than them and dedicate their lives to jerking them off and wiping their asses for them.
It's simply a dominant-bottom power fantasy.
First letter. Your turn.

A
On today's agenda, we need to discuss problems we have had in the past with our respective adventuring parties, and how to better crush their attempts to usurp our power.
Refreshments have been brought by our Treasurer, Yestav the Oblivion Bringer, and will be available during discussion.
No capes allowed.
Yeah, I think our problem is that we don't have a regular guy whose only power is telling the adventurers and police what we're gonna do before we do it.
Fellow villains, it is I, the Plaguebringer. I can already see some of you cringing and moaning, but I would like to bring this issue again - I suggest we should clarify our no cape policy and make it that it only forbids actual capes.
As you know, my regular attire includes a cloak - which is not a cape, and therefore should be allowed as a part of a dress-code.
My reasoning is very simple - when I wear my mask, but not my cap... Excuse me, not my cloak, I look downright silly.
>>52281882
Plaguebringer, we have been through this before. Cloaks do not technically count as capes, but they need to be secured so as to avoid work related accidents. The policy only exists because Dr. GoreGon is getting rather annoyed with putting our members back together after they get their apparel caught in something. If you can approve it with the Doctor, outside of this meeting, we will make due changes to the policy.

Wow, anon must be tall to come up to Red's knee. She takes all the height perks.
>>52281317
Not as much anymore. The focus is much more on demons this time around it looks like.
>>52281345
Oh no. I still take all the height perks.
People just don't hear about it for this new chain because I haven't posted builds as much anymore.

I do not advise you running this gimmick, at least in Curse of Strahd. There are two reasons for that.
1) Unless my memory fails me, foreign languages never come up in Curse of Strahd. You'll have no opportunities to show off your gimmick.
2) You are a cleric, and you have Comprehend Languages as a spell.
>>52281286
Yah Barovian is Common language
If you want to help your friends be a Paladin and solo Atrahd or be a cleric and destroy all the undead
How viable is the Oath of Treachery? What are good options for multiclassing with it?
I'm going to be running the Tomb of Horrors for a group of friends tomorrow, and something about the place doesn't make sense. Room nine, with the secret doors
Finding each secret door in each area marked on the map is relatively easy with a DC 25 Search check.
However, each secret door is marked on the map by a letter indicating the unique method where by the door is opened. Each method differs from that of the previous door.
The various secret doors open as follows:
A. Pull down.
B. Pivots centrally.
C. Pull inward and up at bottom.
D. Slides up.
E. Double panels pull inward.
F. Slide left.
G. Seven studs—press all and door opens; 1 and 7 trigger a swinging door trap (which also opens the door).
I assume by the letters they are referring to A through G, but how are you supposed to figure out "Slides up" from the letter D?
>>52281004
You reach into the ground/a hidden handle and slide it up
>>52281113
I guess I should have been more clear, I don't see how you're able to extrapolate the method for each door from the letter. I am in dire need of explanation.
>>52281152
The players are going to have to use trial and error. The letters are just for your convenience in DMing.
Is it a good idea to advertise if you are a rookie or first time GM?
I could see your players being more understanding ahead of time, but also it might undermine your 'authority' at the table and encourage people to try and break or fuck up your game.
>>52280688
Easy option is to say you're new to whatever specific system you are playing, but you're experienced otherwise, that's forgivable
Depends, how do you think your players would react? Are they notorious for derailing games?
>>52280688
If someone is going to shit up your game or be That Guy who always argues, they'll do it regardless. If they know you're a rookie it just means they'll do it sooner and be more bold about it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing because they've 'outed' themselves earlier. You'll have to deal with them either way, so there's an argument for saying the sooner the better.

Why do you guys love 40k so much? Why do you think 8E can save it? Not trying to agitate, just seriously interested to know.
We literally had this thread yesterday.
And the fluff hasn't gone nowhere, it has gone down the shitter.
>>52280636
1. I don't any more. I started with 2E (I had RT but never played it before 2E came out). 40k got shit around 5E. There have been a few decent things since then - e.g the new DE and Admech lore - but most new stuff has been meh, crap or terrible.
2. 8E will be all the worst of 7E with a few new token rules to make people buy the book.
>>52280636
Can I say one thing
Discussing 40k on /tg/ makes me hate it.
The orcs have been united by a napoleon tier leader and are about to go to town on the elves
The elves however have been massive dicks to everyone and kind of deserve this after aggressive expansion into orc lands for decades not expecting any consequences
It will be a bloody war, but it will ultimatly end in a stalemate unless your party steps in
Who does your party side with and why?
Which side has the better waifu?
>>52280249
Who pays better
>>52280249
In this situation, I would allow the Orcs to make considerable headway against the Elves, before showing up to turn the tide when it's two minutes to midnight and save the day.
This way the Elves, who are "better," will ultimately win, but will be shown that their actions have major consequences and they survived only because of another groups generosity.

most the stuff in it is for the DM. You can easliy study up and teach them as they go. Although they will have to read for character creation stuff.
This man summons you to fight against the tide of chaos. Do you answer his call?

>>52279209
I absolutely do. I already play Empire.
Hey there, /tg/, I'm setting up a Digimon game using Digimon Digital Adventures, and I need some help.
I'm trying to come up with some system similar to or identical to the crests in Adventure 01, and I'm not sure how to go about doing it.
My first thought is to make some kind of questionnaire for the players, and the choices they pick regarding their characters determines their crest. I'm not sure this is the best approach though, especially as I've never done a questionnaire like that before.
How would y'all suggest going about doing this?
Digimon is shit, play PTU instead.
>>52278200
Thanks for the help.
>>52278178
Hey anon, I'm about to run the same shit, but I'm forgoing the crests. What I'd suggest is look at the fluff on their character and their torments. What's a virtue, or just similar good thing since there's like 9+ crests, that they have a seed of but struggle with?
For example, one of my player's characters nearly caused someone to commit suicide, doing the teen age bracket for this campaign, but has never stopped regretting it to the point of serious depression. Clearly, I'd give him the crest of friendship.
GM or DM?
Referee
GM is a general system neutral term, DM is specific to D&D and various associated fantasy RPGs. Lots of games use their own variation, but GM is best used for ease of understanding outside the context of a specific system.
