I just want to shoot another thanks to the anon who gave us HH7: Inferno. I was looking online for a really high quality version of the OP pic, and the one in the .pdf is essentially the best out there.

Anyone have any recommendations on what colours you'd use to get that scheme down on your models? I'm not that good at judging it by eye.
>>
>>52265311
>>52265499
I see. And how long would it take to build up a force like that compared to something like 40k? I can imagine that its a bit more expensive than other games, unless you use recasts.

Like, say I wanted to build a up a force, and introduce it to others who play 40k, or just use my army against 40k armies straight up. How long would it take to do that? Currently, I am interested in the Night Lords as my legion of choice, loyalist if possible. I want to bring bloody justice upon the traitors.
>>
>>52266142

Points in 30k tend to be higher than 40k in general, so getting to 3000 isn't quite as much effort although the extra cost of the models offsets that.

Really depends on what kind of list you want to run, try reading up on the Night Lords rules and some other tactical advice on them and map out what you may be interested in building.

30k tends to be fairly weak compared to 40k since it lacks formations and only has one force org chart allowed.

Loyalist night lords are totally allowed and all you'll miss are the named characters
>>
>>52266142

3000 points in 30k is like 1250 or 1500 points in 40k. An army with like 1 primarch, 20 marines, 10 terminators, a big dread and some vehicles is already 3000.

Prime white. Several layers of property thinned Vallejo 'heavy goldbrown' until you have a uniform basecoat, then line recesses, seams, and panel lines with agrax earthshade. Go back with the base color and touch up your lines anywhere the wash ran over, and then for highlights I used a 50/50 mix of the base color and P3 Menoth White Highlight. It's a really weird creamy off-white that gives it a little more of a bright yellow hue rather than a bright gold.

Following this, I'm still going to try for a bit darker recesses around the chest and head, but that's my method thus far and it makes for a very deep golden yellow.

Here's how it looks on a smaller model with more of a drybrushy highlighting method.

is that from the sigmarine scout dudes?
>>
>>52266829
Sure.

The issue I have with being a totalitarian is when the plot has morphed into the Emperor being a totalitarian that intended for the Hors Heresy to happen all along. It defeats the setting whole handedly.

There's no surprise, suspense or even awe at the galactic civil war if it was "Just as Planned"

That's the issue, the Emperor being a sentimental sod is stupid but far superior to the new appalling lore that would have him instead be smote by Horus so he could eat souls and become a god ten thousand years in the future.

But before anyone suggests that height not have been powerful enough to Best Horus in the initial stages of their duel, don't forget that at the death of a mortal he erases Horus from existence, with such might that the Gods themselves bail out.

>>
>>52267445
Having just finished master of mankind yesterday, the whole abloobloo about ADB saying the emperor had "just as planned" the heresy is complete bullshit. There is actually a passage in there where he makes a distinct point to Ra Endemyion about how future sight allows him to see the goals, the path to reach those goals is difficult and ever changing from countless millions of variables. It's actually a pretty well-written passage. I'll see if I can screencap it once I can get to my tablet.

The dread wear and tear are freehand. Druss's armor was pretty dinged up on the stock model, but his arms are plastic. He's actually recently been re-equipped with a boarding shield to roll with my breachers. The axe and fist were kind of redundant.

It's not really irrational. Normal religions will tell you, do X and don't do Y because that's what God wants, maybe. You have no way of knowing if that is true or not, though. Atheism on the other hand will tell you specifically to not be religious because the historical record shows that religion fucks a lot of things up.

Within the black books its confirmed that there where after the Custodes culled the Thunder Warriors.

It now being confirmed doesn't remove that other piece of information coming from the same source.

Between Arik escaping with a functional Progenoid Gland and the Thunder Warriors dying 1-5 against the War Hounds, I'm sure there is some relation or overlap there.

I'm atheist, and I've met other atheists who just won't shut up about it. They're obsessed, dogmatic, and prejudiced. Irrational is more up for debate. But anyway, it's the "obsessed" part that's the problem. Lorgar needed something to be obsessed about and that was never going to end well.

Anyone have any good ideas for Stake-Crossbow bits for the SoS command squad? There's the new 40k inquisitor, but that's a combi-weapon and I'd need five of them since I want to run it on the whole squad (mostly because it's a free upgrade to have a S5 bolter instead of 18" assault 2 4+ poison).

If I had to guess may Maxifoux might have something but I no basically nothing about that game. Basically, we're looking for a relatively modern-looking crossbow that hopefully has some other contrivances like a curved box magazine or an optical scope.
>>
>>52268456
Your damocles has essentially no usage at all, Mortis-Naughts get very little usage from a havoc launcher since you cant hit flyers with blasts and a s5 blast is kinda useless. At 3000 points you're very light on AA with only a contemptor. Your heavy support is good, but you have no CC squad you want to put Perty into-and he will never, ever make back a third of his points without a retinue, and gives very little to this army overall. I would either build more around pert, or more around artillery, since atm you're trying to do both and that'll never work. Consider dropping Pert and your Damocles, and bringing either a bunch more quad launchers and another tac squad to do the objective game, or a fellblade/glaive/typhon/something shooty

How do Deredeo Dreads w/ the Arachnus Lascannon Battery do in an anti-armor role?

the answer is well, unless you're firing into the flare shield of a Spartan
>>
>>52268826
They pop armor like nobodies business. Give them a launcher as well for extra evil.

Against 90% of vehicles they will murder everything. Running two is guaranteed to scare people.

>>
>>52268970
Yes. Very well. The autocannons are effective at suppression fire.
>>
>>52269010
So if I were to choose between a Contemptor-Mortis w/ Kheres and a Medusa
or
Deredeo w/ Lascannons and Missile Launcher, which is preferable?
>>
Would the robed Deathwing Knight bodies fit on Cataphractii legs? I've been studying the sprues but can't tell if the gap between the legs is wide enough.
>>
>>52269078
It really depends on what you want them to do. The Contemptor is meant for smashing shit and shredding units even before that. It will handle CC and will be much more vulnerable, but will wipe the floor with most units as long as it's properly supported.

The Deredeo is aptly named "Mad Cat MKII" for a reason. It is a walking engine of fucking death and will kill just about anything it fires at. If played correctly it will be safe more often than not and will tear apart anything that looks in its general direction. Use it to pop vehicles and wound high profile units. A pair of them will annihilate most armored units in the game on their own.

Contemptor is more risk for more reward and Deredeo is more streamlined effectiveness.

>>
>>52270472
They're pretty good, but if allow me 2 critics, the white on the helmets is a wee bit tacky. Have used pure white or light greys?

Secondly, the dudes pointing with his chainfist is not looking at finger. Either turn his head, lower the bolter, or both, but do something if you can. Right now you have two points of the model pointing at different places.

Other than that it's pretry good man.

>>
>>52270844

You just have to sort of quietly accept that the writing staff don't grasp the scale of tasks or how much a marine can accomplish.

Realistically the biggest limit to the great crusade would be how long it takes to subjuga- uh, incorporate a world, work it's hierarchy into the ministorum and raise armies from it to keep the pace accelerating as you move onto new worlds.

Starting with 20 marine legion spearheads to assign to armies and whatever you can recruit from Terra, Mars and the immediate surrounding area... It would presumably take maybe three decades to build the imperium to a hundred worlds, maybe 30% of which are well enough integrated to raise new recruits from on a full war footing.
>>
>>52270875
Pre-heresy it had 500 systems, in M41 after Bobby's return it regained same size.
>>
>>52270416

3mm dia magnets minimum, try to not have them smoothly touch - leave a little space so they don't click together and have a bit of resin/plastic 'burs' from the drill hole still there so they bind. I have zero problems with arm droop, even on (plastic) Contemptors - make sure that you have stronk neodymium type magnets for this

tl:dr - it's only gay if the magnets touch
>>
So now that Custodes have their own 40k warlord trait table. Does this mean it can be used in 40k and 30k? Or only 40k?

>>
>>52271070
>>52270416

I make do with 2x1 mm neodymium and I have 0 issues with arm drop on termis and the like.
Actually letting the magnets touch makes the bond that much stronger, so yeah make sure they aren't covered with paint or glue residue.

Hell, I made do with 2x1 mm on my plastic contemptor and I only get some armdrop on the kheres/MM side outside of the 4-8 clock zone. (Yes, I ran out of 3x1 mm magnets).

The ones for 40k should be confined to 40k becausethey were made to interact in that cheesy environment...but all factions should have their own WTs, not just the fucking special snowflake furries

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/User:Unification#Legiones_Astartes_Warlord_Trait_Tables

Which by the way, reminds me of this:

Ultramarine Warlord Traits

>Gladiarch
The Warlord gains an single increase of +1W on an ongoing duel (after the first round), until the end of it. Glorious Interventions do not cancel the bonus if the Warlord is being swapped out, but swapping him in doesn't count as having already fought the first round.

>Peerless Logistician
+1 to Seize the Initiative, while the Warlord lives you can add or substract 1 from a single Reserves roll each turn. For units with the Legiones Astartes (Ultramarines) rule, this is increased to +2/-2 if wished.

>Courage and Honour
The Warlord has the Fearless special rule

>Dominio Lectora
The Warlord has the Crusader special rule

>Unbreakable Will
The Warlord rerolls Ld tests, Deny the Witch and is immune to the Concussion special rule

>Master of Command
At the end of the movement phase, the Warlord can designate a unit with the Legiones Astartes (Ultramarines) rule within 6" (including his own). That unit rerolls charge ranges and to-Hit rolls of one.
>>
>>52271580
No. A siege breaker allows medusas to "exchange" their normal shells for phospex ones, not keep them and be able to choose.
>>
>>52271370
Wait, do all the Tyrants have chainfists? Aren't they first and foremost a shooty footslogger squad? Perhaps you could bring something else is you let go of the chainfists.

Also, Artillery squads are still 0-1 even with Hammer of Olympia, so you cannot bring 2 Medusae in two different squads.
>>
>>52271640
>artillery squads 0-1

>chainfists

The black carapace isn't required for using Power Armor.

Muh "Snowflakes" haven't hand waved much of anything, Should I run S5 T5 Space Marines and have no narrative in mind? Oh yeah some random Magos fucked with my muhreens Gene Seed so kewl.

You are fucking faggot Anon for magnifying non existent issues based on differences of personal opinion. You statistically are unlikely to even HAVE models, let alone have started painting them or put thought into your forces back story.
>>
>>52272188
There's a difference between having a story for My Dudes and picking one of the most unlikely explanations possible. And I don't know if you noticed, but your story also includes some asshole fucking around with geneseed, 'so kewl'

>"you probably don't even own models REEEEEEEE"

fucking kek.

Also, space marine power most certainly does require the black carapace in order to function properly. Without it you can forget about the fibrebundles assisting in moving the weight of the armour without hindering your own movement, as well as the benefits autosenses provide, just to name some examples. There's a very good reason the implantation of the Black Carapace is considered one of the most important steps of turing kids into marines.
>>
>>52271953
These are gorgeous, but they do look Dark Green instead of Black. Look at black armour painting tutorials as the tron scheme is equally weird.

Sure, but in 30k and 40k non-Marines are perfectly capable of using power armour, even terminator armour. Power armour of the Sisters of Battle is even based on the Marine armour.
>>
>>52272188
>Muh "Snowflakes" haven't hand waved much of anything.
For starters, there was never mention of a surviving force of Thunder Warriors of reasonable size in the Heresy.

Secondly, whilst power admin needs no black carapace to work, Astartes power armour does require it to properly link the user to the suit, otherwise the muscle fiber bundles, augmented sensor suite and all other increased bodily functions are not there. Thunder Warriors didn't get a carapace because MkI PA didn't have such advanced systems, after all, only the upper torso was actually powered.

So yeah, your cherrypicking of fluff that suits you and convenient forgetfulness of conflicts certainly make your force look snowflakey, claiming to have the upper hand lorewise is just petty.

>You are fucking faggot Anon for magnifying non existent issues based on differences of personal opinion.

Please, try to avoid ad-hominem attacks, they only make you look immature.
And no, this isn't just a difference of personal opinion.

>You statistically are unlikely to even HAVE models, let alone have started painting them or put thought into your forces back story.

Nice assumption.
Well then, let's just say I beat the statistics by a good margin. I happen to own a nicely sized army which is all painted and fluffed up.
>>

Dude, he's just providing narrative for his Chymeriae bois, chill.
Not to mention those guys do have a -1I penalty that could easily be seen as the downside of lacking Black carapaces, which leaves them in mortal speed like Inquisitors in Termie armour or SoBs.
>>
>>52272363
What would the difference be between my Magos comparison, which is arguably MORE hand waving than having an story that is supported by fluff?

Arik Taranis created Thunder Warrior Gene Seed, it happened.

Following through with a separate Warrior Culture that isn't just Marines +1 satisfies my own interest in the Unification era and technology that is cruder, more barbaric.

>>52272423
A sizable force survived immediately after the Unification and wiped the floor with the War Hounds, it was a force of 500 Thunder Warriors. Arik made his gene seed sometime after that.

Lacking a Black Carapace is explicit stated as only hindering the user in terms of encumbrance. You don't have a leg to stand on Anon.

>Please, try to avoid ad-hominem attacks, they only make you look immature.
And no, this isn't just a difference of personal opinion.

It clearly is a difference of lore interpretation, Power Armor is being utilized by common humans prior to the Crusade, during the Crusade and AFTER the Crusade, by Human Empries, the Silent Sisters followed by the Sisters of battle.

This comes down to "I don't like your ideas" vs "These are my ideas"

The problem with your guys is that you're going against very well established lore. Thunder Warriors are dead and buried during the Great Crusade and they just won't come back like that. They weren't even meant to last more than a generation.

In the 31st millenium? What are they? You said common humans wore it prior to the crusade, but that's not exactly descriptive.
>>
>>52272558
Different guy. I think there are multiple types of power armor.

Space Marines use the Black Carapace, which makes them one with their armor and makes them perhaps the most adept at using it. They can benefit from its enhancements more, and have faster reaction times.

All other non-Carapace users can still use power armor, its just marginally inferior. They'll never be as fast or strong as a SM, but they still get your usual suite of power armor benefits, as the armor reads their muscle twitches and maybe any standard neuro-ports they may have.

The Black Carapace just takes an already good concept and buffs it out. Like a gaming PC to a standard one.
>>

>You don't have a leg to stand on Anon.
Matter of fact, I have two of them, they're quite serviceable.

>It clearly is a difference of lore interpretation, Power Armor is being utilized by common humans prior to the Crusade, during the Crusade and AFTER the Crusade, by Human Empries, the Silent Sisters followed by the Sisters of battle.

Well, I think I missed the part where your dudes have lower initiative and strength than normal, considering they're interfacing with an armour that's clearly not made for them.

Regular humans have power armour, but it's not as good as Space Marine armour, again, no physical augmentation, no linked auto senses, in many cases not even life support systems at all. Not all forms of powered plate are made equal.

It's even mentioned in 40k fluff that in order for an inquisitor to be equipped with termie armour, kit needs extensive artificer-made modifications to make up for a human body, and even then, it will never function as well as with an actual Astartes.

recess shade: Nuln oil OR i have started to use a Very fine (.005mm) black marker instead, it gives it an almost anime/ cartoon look to the white scars that i like.

edge highlight (optional) just White scar or Dead White from VMC.

Red is mephiston Red then edge highlight with evil sunz scarlet or wild rider red, can't remember right now) i find an extreme highlight of orange doesn't look good on it.

i don't personally put gold on my white scars but instead i use Vallejo Liquid copper in the areas where it would normally be gold. i find the works nice with the scheme. do a shade or Rikeland fleshshade over it and neaten up the areas after.

How big is the army gonna be? Honestly, I feel like it's good either way. If you want to run a Tribune you need to make Custodes the primary since they have to be at least 2000 points, but otherwise the list is almost purpose built for the restrictions of the allied detachment since one of each slot is plenty.

On the other hand, if you do primary Custodes there's a few things you can do with LA but not a ton. Bubble wrap a quad gun squad, stick in some anti-air, maybe just a bunch of bolter dudes to add more scoring (although honestly you're better off just using Sisters for that since they're so cheap, infiltrate for free and are fearless).
>>
>>52273678
I suppose I'd be aiming for 3000 points as an end goal. I'll probably end up with Fists as the primary detachment, since they have a lot of toys to bring and a lot of slots to fill. The Custodes will most likely be 2 troop squads, shield captain, Achillus dread, and a caladius tank.

It's mostly for fluff, but I want to steer towards an army that has the potential to accomplish something.

Don't ignore the jetbikes as a potential option, the D3 lascannons they can take make them a very deadly and versatile vehicle/elites hunter. Granted, the models need to come out, but I don't think it's gonna be too long before they do.

Depending on how you wanna do the army it's also worth considering doing one squad in a transport just to take the transport for the guns. It's honestly a really good tank.

There is normal human power armor that doesn't require the carapace and also doesn't have all the benefits of marine armor like strength enhancement and sensors, but those are in normal human sizes and not in thunder warrior sizes.

Guy, "Note that a Space Marine needs the Black Carapace to use his Power Armour to its maximum capabilities, but general power armour technology itself does not need this implant in order to function. The Sisters of Battle, for example, as well as some Inquisitors or wealthy functionaries such as Rogue Traders, also wear Power Armour. However, since their central nervous systems are not linked directly to their armour's Machine Spirit as a Space Marine would be, movement is cumbersome in comparison to the grace and natural movement afforded by Astartes power armour, and the suit is likewise less capable of providing bio-monitoring and auto-treatment functions."

Well the tank is flat out underpriced if you compare it to a Sicaran, so it's not like it's bad. You're definitely getting a lot of bang for your points. The carrier models are also a lot more expensive than the tanks.

If you do want to get the tank I'd also wait until the new gun comes out. For only 15 points it's pretty much flat out better unless your meta involves lots of jetbikes.

Fists first. You'll have better games with them - specialized armies like Custodes can be a bit paper-scissors-rock, in that you'll often wing big or lose big just based on army composition. There are also a lot more Imperial Fists in the galaxy than Custodes.

In the absence of Mk I armor models, I'm fine with TWanon saying that his army has jury-rigged Mk III armor to almost work. Maybe it's Thunder Warrior internals with a bunch of Mk III plates welded on. Conversions to make it look lower-tech would be helpful, but there aren't many good bits to work with.

Is there any good 3rd party stuff, like segmented pauldrons or heads with sunglasses?

For some reason I can imagine the Emperor doing some hilarious pranks with that when he's bored.
>>
So my iron hands force has a veteran tactical squad. 5-6 dudes depending on points, everyone with combi plasmas, leader has artificer armor, marksman to let them outflank.

To free up the elite slot, since I'm not using any FA, would it be worth it to turn them into seekers? I'd have to give them a rhino to let them outflank still, and the sgt doesn't get a combi weapon. So I'd be paying an extra 70 points for 5 dudes and a rhino, but it frees an elite slot up for something else and gives them +1 BS, special ammo, precision shot, and marked for death.

I use metal on the operating parts and Skavenblight Dinge for the boltgun housing, highlighting both with eshin and a nuln wash. it works pretty well.

So far I've found that including details like the bolt pistol hlosters and combat blades on XIX dudes is super important as they help break up the constant black/metal monotone a bit with some different color.
