Ramillies_1706,_initial_attack.png

It is 311 years since the Battle of Ramillies was fought during the War of the Spanish Succession. For the Grand Alliance – Austria, England, and the Dutch Republic – the battle had followed an indecisive campaign against the Bourbon armies of King Louis XIV of France in 1705. Although the Allies had captured Barcelona that year, they had been forced to abandon their campaign on the Moselle, had stalled in the Spanish Netherlands and suffered defeat in northern Italy. Yet despite his opponents' setbacks Louis XIV was desirous of peace – but he wanted it on reasonable terms. For this end and in order to maintain their momentum, the French and their allies took the offensive in 1706.

The campaign began well for Louis XIV's generals: in Italy Marshal Vendôme had defeated the Austrians at the Battle of Calcinato in April, while in Alsace Marshal Villars had forced the Margrave of Baden back across the Rhine. Encouraged by these early gains Louis XIV urged Marshal Villeroi to go over to the offensive in the Spanish Netherlands and, with victory, gain a 'fair' peace. Accordingly, the French Marshal set off from Leuven at the head of 60,000 men and marched towards Tienen, as if to threaten Zoutleeuw. Also determined to fight a major engagement, the Duke of Marlborough, commander-in-chief of Anglo-Dutch forces, assembled his army – some 62,000 men – near Maastricht, and marched past Zoutleeuw. With both sides seeking battle, they soon encountered each other on the dry ground between the Mehaigne and Petite Gheete rivers, close to the small village of Ramillies.

Villeroi assembled his forces in a concave formation, with the right and left flanks further forward than the centre. Both French flanks used rivers and marshes to their advantage, preventing the Allies from outflanking them.

Hello all, I'm making a Harakoni Warhawk fandex for 7th and I need some special characters. I know 8th is coming, but it's been the subject of much skub in my group, so we're holding on to 7th for a bit.

The Warhawks are Drop-Heavy Infantry, and the 'dex reflects this. They all get Deep Strike and a homebrew USR, Drop Specialists (subtract 2" from scatter during Grav Chute Insertion). They all get Carapace Armour and Hellguns/Hellpistols (S3 AP5 21" RF and S3 AP5 11" Pistol respectively). Vets also get Operation Hot Drop as a Special Rule. They have most of the standard HQs, with USRs plus wargear for a significant price bump. The only ground vehicles they can take are Tauroses and Drop Sentinels, but they get Valkyries and Vendettas at Elysian points costs to compensate.

The only special character I have so far is Father Marcus Schoeman. He's an ornery Ministorum Priest with (redundant) carapace, +1 to WS, W, and Ld, a Crozius Arcanum gifted to him by an Astartes Chaplain, and some fuckhueg books that give him a single-use 3++ that kills a War Hymn if he passes. He also has to take an Ld test every time his squad is issued an Order. If he fails, he leaves the squad, autocasts the Smash War Hymn on himself, gains Fleet and Move Through Cover and the ability to both Run and Charge, and runs towards the nearest enemy unit to go crack some skulls.

Some characters that have arisen from the group's tabletop campaign setting:
Commissar-Captain Rhodes, head of the regimental Commissariat. Headshotted a cultist champion with his Bolt Pistol from the ramp door of the last departing Valkyrie despite a broken leg and acute shrapnel poisoning.
Lieutenant Hanekom, a tactically-skilled but racist and cowardly Tauros Venator commander.
Colonel Van Zaal, 63rd Warhawks CO, notable for rescuing a planetary heir by carting her out of a 7th-story window via grav-chute.

Any help statting out existing characters or coming up with new ones is greatly appreciated.

bummer that scatter is going away, but what why not just make it easy on all of us and use 20 inch rapid fire guns? not a bif difference and it avoids half inches, which are not in the rules really. 10 inch pistols would be nice too. losing 1 inch compared to a regular pistol isn't much at all.

I don't have the obligatory "this is bait" reaction image on hand, but pretend I posted it.

I don't like Blue Rose because I'm not the target audience. There's just not really anything there for me. I don't like the style of fantasy they were going for, and I'm not a homosexual who needs to fight back against Catholicism.

I will give them credit for including magic dolphins and implying people fuck those dolphins on the reg, though. That's some progressivism right there.

And while it's hamfisted about being a Liberal gay suetopia, it's not as bad about it as Beast: the Whatevering from Onyx Path is.

>>
Haven't heard anything about the new release. The original was one of the better designed iterations of the D20 system. The setting seemed like a socially progressive take on LotR, and I haven't read any of the associated genre's fiction so I can't say if it was true to genre or not, but since LotR is not my bag, neither was this.

What are some essential tips for a first time DM?
I want to start a campaign and I have a general idea, but I want to know if there is anything else

>>53485017

Take any and all advice you are given with a hefty amount of salt.

GMing is more art than science, and there is no one 'right' way to do it. You might get sincere advice from a veteran GM who has been gaming for decades that will completely fall flat if you try it with your group because of a difference in playstyles.

This doesn't mean they were wrong. but it highlights the importance of context. Be willing to try things out and fool around and make mistakes. Communicate clearly with your group that this is a learning experience for you, get feedback from them on what works and what doesn't, and be willing to collaborate in learning together how to create an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
>>
>>53485017
Just fucking do it. Most of the theory/prep stuff is gonna be pretty useless before you get some actual experience.

If you wanted to learn how to ride a bike, you get on a fucking bike and figure it out. You can't just spend a month reading books about biking before you start riding.

Once you've actually ran a game, then come back to /tg/ and ask for advice about the stuff you want to improve. Our advice will still be garbage, but it will probably be slightly useful garbage.
>>
>>53485017
>Know what type of game your players want
>Learn to improvise as well as use your player's ideas/suggestions to create scenarios.
>If you find players aren't doing anything at all, don't be afraid to push an event onto them
>Don't over describe areas unless asked. Give a short description and mention the important aspects
>short lists of names, traits and personalities will be very helpful
>NPC dialogue does not have to be strictly you talking as the npc. Feel free to summarize what he's saying as well. But do voice out the important lines if you can.
>If players are quiet or does not actively engage in roleplaying, try to initiate dialogue with them first.

Mostly it depends on your players and the setting and what not. Keep some essential rule tips written or easily accessible without having to flip through a ton of pages, but also rely on common sense or consistency as well. The most important thing is to have fun with it and don't treat your players like an audience.

PART ONE: THE WOLF LORD
In the Space Wolves, Great Companies change hands often. As one Wolf Lord falls and adds his name-stone to the Grove of Heroes, his successor reinvents the Great Company in his own image. His heraldry becomes their heraldry, his tactics become the company's tactics. In essence, the Wolf Lord is your Great Company personified in a single astartes.

WHEN WAS THE GREAT COMPANY FOUNDED?
Most Wolf Lords have reigned for no longer than a few centuries at best. A rare few may have risen to power in ages ago, were lost to a tragic warp accident, and re-emerged in the modern era to fight again.

Who cares about those? They're already accounted for in the OP.

The chessgames.com stats for King's Gambit Accepted give White a very slight edge in winning percentage while King's Gambit Declined has a much more lopsided winning percentage for White.

Those are pretty good stats. Why isn't the King's Gambit more popular?

>>
You play with en passant right?
>>
>>53482427
47%+18%+31.5%= 96.5%?

Who wins the other 3.5%?

At the very top level of chess 31.5% chance of winning really is a lot for Black, especially when coupled with 18% chance that Black will draw.

Most GMs inherently dislike gambit openings because they're too risky...you either win or lose, there's no in-between. They prefer an opening which gives White a small chance to win, a very large chance to draw, and no chance for Black to win.

Also keep in mind the trickle-down effect--amateur players typically like to use the same openings as the big boys, which means a lot of Ruy Lopez and Sicilian. If Magnus Carlsen started suddenly using the Center Game, you can bet the popularity of that opening would blow up overnight.
>>
White puts himself at an inherent disadvantage with this opening--there are a number of ways in which Black can get a good and essentially even game, so by playing KG, White is engaging in a lot of risk with a low chance for reward.

Database stats are not a good gauge of anything since a lot of the King's Gambit, Center Game, etc games on chessgames.com were played back in the 19th century with opening lines that have since been refuted.

Do you want the anime-style where there are no humans and it's just exploration and fighting Ceruleans, or do you want the mobile game story where there are humans around to influence Friends?

Anime mostly. The focus on exploration and meeting new Friends is the real draw.

Walk through him

Where we have walked we didn't need eyes to see the Hounds of Tindalos.

Show him the wonders of technology

I just realized that with the changes in stat lines, all old model rules are going to have to be updated.

The thing is that I just picked up the limited ed. skulz terminator captain and he has the special rules for his weapon printed on the sheet. and as far as I am aware, these rules are not present in the standard space marine codex.

So my question is are models such as him with special rules going to have their stats/rules updated or is GW going to leave them in the dust?

They claim they're going to update all current models.
It does depend on how current they mean by current though. And any really specialist stuff from forgeworld (especially xenos) is going to be left in the dust.
Space marines are probably going to be safe, although you might have to use the standard weapons.

Is that not the one with the power sword and the power fist with a gun on it? Just run him as the new Chadmarine captain, he has that exact same armour. Just raise him on his base a bit to get the height right or extend his legs.

You'll be able to use him as a normal termie captain. Dont expect new special rules.
