Recently started playing a campaign, we are on session 3 now, I quite like it, as does my party. What do you wan to know?
>>
>>53429290
We especially like the character creation, you create a whole backstory together with the stats to your character. They also like the Arcana system (xp)

I like the setting a lot, thats why I wanted the book.
>>
>>53429290
I think the most basic question are:
What is unique about it?
How does combat go? fast? lethal?
How is magic?
Is it high fantasy? like what is the most over the top thing you can do?

I accidentally discovered a good technique for creating rivers: make an elevation map out of kitchen foil, then pour some gravy over it.

It's damn well annoying when you're trying to reheat a roast, but it creates perfect rivers and lakes. Stick it on top of your rice/bean landmasses and you're good to go.

What is /tg/'s opinion on MajiMonsters? Me and a friend have been reading through the rulebook and like what we've seen so far.

How is this different from all the /tg/ Pokemon homebrews

basically, explain the game mechanics as if you aren't a shill.
>>
>>53474016
What's the core mechanic, and how does the system balance the "Six Pokemon" problem?
>>
>>53474039
>>53474047

Core mechanic is 2d6+Modifier, roll to beat a TN. Except for PC skills which for some reason go from 2d4 to 2d6 to 2d8, which I don't see the point of - a modifier would have made more sense, imo.

By default you can only have 3 Mons "active" at a time (you basically have to spend a rest period to switch out which ones are active).

I haven't played yet so I can't honestly say how well it runs, but from what I've read in the rulebook, it seems way simpler than, say, PTU or whatever.

The mechanics seem pretty simple - most attacks are 2d6+Stat vs Static Defense, roll Damage.

It seems like 4e d&d inspired, which obviously going to immediately turn some pepole off, but it also seems purpose bhilt for what it's doing, which is nice.

I think monster hp might be too high, I will try it as normal and see how long battles take, and then see.

How can you manage to run a horror campaign and make it legitimately scary ?

It always seemed like a difficult thing to do for me because most of the times the players are simply not in the mood to be scared and even when they are, pretty much anything can get them out of the immersion.

So how do you pull a horror game that legit scares your players shitless ?

Horror games, like haunted houses, require a certain willingness on behalf of the scarees to play along. If your players aren't willing to meet you halfway, there's nothing you can do to pull them into it short of locking bomb collars around their throats and telling them that if they die in the game, they die in real life.
>>

>>

>So how do you pull a horror game that legit scares your players shitless ?
It's pretty easy to make players scared for their character's lives, if they're invested in them. Make them roll perception checks, put them through difficult combats, have them fall through floors and twist ankles and break their hands in machinery. This requires the right group and mindset, though, and a session or two preluding the start of the horror. It's why horror movies can take half an hour to establish characters, to make us care about the people who are about to be hurt on the screen.

Actually scaring your players is more difficult, because everybody's scared by something different. But if your players don't even meet you halfway, you'll never have a chance.

Say goodbye to Dark Angels and Black Templars

There seem to be 3 common schools of thought on how to deal with radiation in games and fiction it seems like

1.) treat it as magic

2.) treat it as magic poison

3.) somewhat realistically portray it's deleterious effects on the health of living things but don't portray its effects on other things.

I'm eventually planning on introducing an NPC in a game I'm running who is passively just a bit below the boiling point of water and pumps out a lot of ionizing radiation. They can crank this up significantly.

They live in an exclusion zone on an island.

Though one better maintained then Pripyat or Fukushima because, instead of it being an abandoned developed area crumbling from neglect, it's a bunch of undeveloped land with a complex build for and maintained by a single person in the middle.

I try to go for a realistic portrayal of things like fire, air, water, radiation and such in my games.

So I've been searching for information on what radiation does to things and devices but haven't been finding much besides how UV rays from the sun fuck up plastics and ionizing radiation can cause digital video cameras to glitch and show artifacts.

I've found plenty on what radiation does to PEOPLE, but not their homes, clothes, and belongings, or what regular exposure (instead of one contaminating event from a bomb test or meltdown it's an unshielded reactor taking it's morning stroll through the same part of a forest, beach, or field every day for weeks, months, or years.) does to a place.

Would their wallpaper all be bleached? Would they go through a lot of clothes and bed covers? Can they own a phone, Gameboy, or PC or would they breakdown quickly?

I'm interested in this because whether the party figure out how to visit themselves, or send in a drone I want to figure out what physical signs this person would leave on their home environment and personal belongings to convey the dangerous and alienating condition of such a being.

Make them lose hair and get cancer.
>>
>>53470646
...I suppose I haven't really looked into this much, but I had the strong impression that radiation just doesn't do all that much to non-living things. It damages living things because they're full of molecule-scale parts which need to be ordered in a precise way.

I have a dim recollection that radiation can screw up microelectronics-- flip bits in RAM and so forth-- but not much beyond that.

What are some actual interesting "Oriental" races for a High Fantasy Oriental Adventures setting?

Dungeons & Dragons has done an Oriental Adventures sourcebook in 1st edition and 3rd edition, and if that pattern holds true, we're due for one in 5th edition.

Here's the thing though... the Oriental Adventures races? They tend to suck.

Traditionally, we've only gotten the three: Korobokuru (Japanese Dwarves, which are basically Jap-Peasant Halflings in flavor), Spirit Folk (Japanese Elves), and Hengeyokai (a clumsy shoehorning of various animal shapeshifters into a single race). 3e at least gave us Rokugan's Nezumi and generic Vanara to go with it.

But, /tg/ is smarter than that (sometimes) and can get shit done (when it feels like it). So, I want to put this challenge to all D&D anons, 5e fans or not:

Don't forget, Oriental Adventures can also cover Chinese and Korean, and maybe even Indian inspiration as well as Japanese, so be creative.

Personally, I can easily see Kitsune, Tanuki, Inugami, Oni, and Jorogumo off the top of my head, but I don't actually know that much Oriental fantasy lore.

Also, apologies of the OP, but it was literally the only pic in my collection of that fit both the "is an oriental race" and the "isn't smutty" criteria boxes.

>>53469708
I think you'd pull off a better oriental adventure using human-only races for player characters.
>>
>>53469754
Yeah, but any DM can do that without a hitch. It takes, like, no effort whatsoever to just come up with different feuding human clans and making all the political backdrop revolve around their loving, feuding, trading and scheming. That's *easy*.

Coming up with properly fantastical races with an Oriental feel? That's *hard*. That's why I'm asking other anons for their thoughts.
>>
>>53469708
I'm gonna say to just steal from Kamigawa here. Small Kappa, sage moon-rabbit folk, kitsune, oni, and humans should give you a pretty good selection.

>MFW you think Tyranids have even a sliver of chance of being good.

In all honesty, just look at swarmlord, 15 power for far worse stats than a knight errant at 23 power.

8 power for double the wounds, double the movement, and 2 more toughness, a very easy choice to make, I'd take the Knight errant any other day.

Tyranids are completely fucked for yet another edition, and all the editions to come, face it boyos, its your punishment for playing a NPC faction

Technically no, but without SS they can't do the more refined applications like sealing and summoning-just hurl around globs of magic like a big dumb DBZ character.

Thor does magic all the time, for example. His signature spell is "I hit you very, very hard with my hammer and the thunder goes boom"

I've never heard of Cubicle7, but after perusing some reviews of their LotR RPG, they sound good. We'll have to see how it is.

Also, if/when they start doing 40k RPGs, it'll be interesting to see if they divide it between pre/post-Gathering Storm, since they're divying up Old World and AoS.
>>
How bad is AoS that, they went back to the Old World as a setting for the new RPG?

I would have thought GW would have forced any new rpg to based in their new setting.

Why would you ever take a Brigade when you can just use 3 Battalion Detachments instead?

>buy 6 hqs and 9 troops, get 9 command points
versus
>buy 3 hqs 6 troops 3 elites 3 fast attacks 3 heavy support for 9 command points

>have 6-9 hqs, 9-18 troops, 0-9 fast attacks, 0-9 heavy supports, 0-6 flyers
or
>3-5 hqs 6-12 troops 3-8 elites 3-5 fast attack 3-5 heavy supports 0-2 flyers

Three battalions are cheaper, give the same command points, and allow you to take way more of the same types of unit (especially flyers). Why would you ever take a brigade?
81 posts and 9 images submitted.
>>
>>53465100
Maybe your HQs and Troops are really expensive and/or really shit and you'd rather take as few of them as possible?
>>
>>53465100
There might be a limit to how many detachments you can take in matched play.
>>
>>53465187
So take really cheap ones, you're still saving points over a Brigade. Batallions only force you to take troops, which you'd have to take anyway. A Brigade forces you to take heavy support even if you don't want any, etc.
