My sister is considering buying a Nikon p900 (Which is like $700 canadian dollars) because her friend took pic related with it.
Could I have a less expensive alternative, and other things that I should tell her regarding photography? Because I dont think you need such an expensive camera to have similar results. She's only 14 and I dont want her to waste so much money on something she wont necessarily need.

nikon d3300.
Entry level DSLR. Still takes really great pictures.
My girlfriends pic, not mine. I'm more of a canon fan because I do video, but if I was into primarily stills, I'd definitely have fun toying around with a d3300 and kit lens.
But, I'm assuming this thread is bait.
>>3128602
Shiiiit nigga, My Iphone 7S++ Portrait Modeā¢ takes better snaps than that. And it doesn't add those giant ovals either
>>3128615
No it's not I dont really know anything about photography and cameras but I assume you dont need a 700$ camera to take similar pictures.
Are there any good digital cameras under or 150 usd? I've been doing a lot of research but I thought I'd ask some people who know what they're talking about
>>3128584
Your cellphone
Honestly OP he's kinda right. You're not going to spend 150 and get a camera better than the ones built into a newer flagship phone.
I guess my question is why digital? If you're trying to buy a camera that's NOT your phone, you'll still need to carry a camera AND your phone assuming you'll always have your phone with you while shooting. If that's the case, it says to me you want something you can take great pics with that's a step up from your phone camera... but phone cameras are so good these days the only way to do that is to spend the moolah on a mirrorless. OR just spend a fuck-ton less than that and get a film camera. That way you have your digital shit on your phone for quick use, and a real camera for artsy use to take out when you get a good opportunity. Furthermore, you won't be dealing with the pitfals of a cheapo digital POS camera with a shitty censor that produces noisy, garbo images. Instead, you'll have neat looking grain and artsy looking colors. Just my thoughts.
Alright lads I'm ready. How do I use manual mode?
lock in your iso, determine if what you're shooting requires a certain shutter speed (is it moving), determine whether you want a shallow or deep depth of field. Adjust shutter speed and aperture accordingly
Which order you do this is up to you and what you're shooting
>>3128555
This. If you're gonna be moving around odd lighting conditions use auto iso and set up your EV what you want the exposure to lean too.
>>3128552
Easy. First figure out what aperture to use. Need short depth of field? Use the lowest number aperture. Need sharpness? Use f8. Need long depth of field? use f16-f22. Then figure out which shutter speed will produce the correct exposure at ISO 100
If the shutter speed is too slow, increase ISO and faster shutter speed.
Sounds complicated, but it's very simple.
90$ did I get fucked or did I just get a nice start in film photography?
a little
is a nice start though
Have fun! Post results.
Given I saw one of these for $13 and it's an average fixed lens rf that requires a discontinued 1.35V mercury battery to run its meter, you could have gotten something way way way way better for $90. A decent SLR, for instance. If the price includes that whole portra pack it's *slightly* better.
The real answer is: whatever, you already have it, enjoy it. Asking after the purchase is just redundant damage control.
So I'm looking into getting a good laptop for photo editing. My price range is $800 or less, and I want the best color accuracy for that price. I currently have a 2012 MacBook Pro that is pretty great for what I do but it's obviously old and runs slow hence why I want something new. I've read some articles online that say gaming laptops are good for photo editing. I'm not sure if that's just a meme but it would be cool if I got something that runs games better than my Mac AND provides the best display for photo editing. Help me /p/, you're my only hope.
use the laptop you have with you
>laptops, price range: <$800, high to low, kill yourself
>>3128394
practically any laptop is good for photo editing as long as it isn't shitted up with garbage. photo editing isn't that demanding.
if you want to play games, build a PC. there's no point to buy a laptop for that.
personal recommendation: used thinkpad t420 + a good SSD, throw in for an external hard drive on top of that if you store a lot of photos

hey niggers,
i wanted to get an optical viewfinder for my EDC digital p&s, but don't want to shell out a 100 euros or more. so i figured i could make a poverty one myself by buying a disposable film camera in the thriftstore and getting the viewfinder out.
like so.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw2a9pwYoEo
did any of you /p/haggots ever do this? is it worth the effort?
Yes and yes, if the deafult one/lack of thereof is an issue. It's worth the effort because it's nearly effortless beyond getting a donor viewfinder and callibrating/fine-tuning the fov and framing to match your lens/camera. Helps if you butcher a variable focal p&s i.e. 35-60mm like mine, 'cos you can precisely adjust the fov to match your [whatever] within the range. If you're not a retard and do it right it's a very convenient addition. I keep mine on a string around my neck to frame shots without even having to take the camera out - as a preview tool. Really fuckin' neat. Or just buy a KMZ turret multifocal viewfinder if you have the time, money and lack of skill/aptitude to dabble in DIY.

looks interesting should i fuck up. where best to get it cheap?
>>3127730
ebay? idk dude. that turret finder is a great aid for learning the fov of classic 35mm focals, I carry it around to try out which prime would be best for a shot I see. Also, obviously, great for rangefinder users.
I shoot film so I just adjusted the diy finder fov against the image the camera renders. I guess it'd be even easier for digicams.

If you're good looking yeah tinder is an option, most of my success comes from a local site called Kijiji - it's pretty much craigslist with a friendlier U.I, if you don't have that there might be ModelMayhem, but I found the models there to be a little harder to work with.
For instagram just spam the local tags under every picture you post, models will come to you if your portraits are at least passable and your bio doesn't sound too creepy.
An alternative, some anons have had wins on craigslist, how dirty and disgusting that place is really seems to depend on the city so it's a bit of a 50/50
>>3127444
trips checked
i don't think craigslist or anything like kijiji exists in my country :( i'd give tinder a go but idk what to put on as bio or pics. First time is really scary
also thanks anon

Generic as fuck my man. Not that rules really matter but you put your horizon in the center of your picture and your subject isn't on an intersection point. I suggest you try killing yourself as your next project.
As expected, didn't put much time into it and it shows but its just landscape
>>3127300
Honest question: How does one "put a lot of time" into a photo? Initial composition and framing? post processing? Would taking 100 photos of the same subject in order to get the "perfect" light and angle? At what point does a putting a good amount of time into a picture make the picture good and at what point does it just make you a bad photographer?
I am now feeling really psychologically occupied with this new hobby. I finally have something to want to be good at, i finally have something to obsess about, to work on, etc etc. I used to be very devastating, like i jerked off too much, i was bisexual, i was sad all the time, i had a hard time being attracted to female, etc etc all that /r9k/ stuffs. Now i rarely jerk off, pretty women start to attract me again, i'm getting less and less attracted to men, and i feel like i'm less socially anxious now. That's great. Thanks guys for making me lust over gears and shooting great photos.
