hello I come seeking guidance.
im not a photographer just a guy with a camera who gets dragged places and takes snapshits.
I have 2 things to talk about.
1, because im always trailing behind I can never stop to take photos, so I have to be quick. problem im having shooting my Nikon d90 in manual is I cant seem to change the dials fast enough to keep up with the changing exposure meter.
I move the dials but the camera cant seem to keep up. I have to wait a second then change slowly.
2 is my raw processing, pic related is my workflow.
I neutralize everything to average grey. that way no one bit is over or under exposed.
then I move the sliders back deciding how much highlights I want, how dark I want the shadows to be.
the fourth image I sometimes put through a preset see if it does anything interesting.
1 is this a normal issue people have? is it me or the technology?
2 whats a normal raw workflow?

Your raw processing was a failure in the first step. To get a decent photo, you need to expose properly. In this situation, the lighting was indeed very shite, but still, you should have exposed for the statue in the first place.
This is very important, you CANT just correct it all in post, even raw woudnt save you from that.
Bringing it all to null in your second picture is absolutely not needed. You need to start out with a decent exposure to only slightly adjust later.
Also, your image is also soft and blurry. Take images with a faster shutter speed (wikipedia), and make sure your camera autofocused on the correct thing.
Your composition and subject matter is also very shite, but thats a lesson for another time. First learn how to expose properly.
>>3131629
youre right, that was the first time id switched to using manual, and I guess that's why I have to go through so much post processing.
what shutter speed do you recommend? that ken Rockwell recommended between 30 - 60.
>>3131637
1/30 -1/60?? nah that cant be.
it depends on your focal length (wiki). But you need to be a lot faster than that. Typically in the day I would go around anywhere from 1/320 in shadows to 1/2000 in the sun.
Your f stop? The sharpest f stop for most lenses is around f/5.6-f/8, that would be ideal for you to use, but you can EASILY go down to your minimum f stop, which should be somewhere around f2-3-4 in darker spots like this
So, do you guys got any tips for me on which camera I should buy? Budget: $500
Never taken pictures other than with my cellphone. I want an upgrade desu.
>>3131557
used pentax k-5 and 40mm f2.8 limited
>>3131587
I was thinking about a new system camera? How's system cameras compared with SLR?
fuck pentax. Used Canon 5d mark II. It'll serve as a decent workhorse. No, you won't have leftover money for a lens too but who gives a shit anyways? Why not kill yourself OP?
Suggestions for a good program that does watermarks for photos?
I am watermarking product photos with a logo and/or website address for a client and i need to do large batches of multiple (20-100+) at a time. i would prefer a free program, but would pay for something that is useful as i do these fairly often.
Thanks in advance
inb4 use PS, etc..... take too long when doing 100 pics...
Pay a professional to make a logo that won't look like ass when small and then use the built in feature in lightroom.
>>3131484
Lightroom can do this, including bulk export.
>>3131500
i have a good logo. just need a program that will auto throw it in say, the bottom left corner, on 100 photos quickly.
I have a 35 mm equivalent and a 50 mm equivalent (among other lenses) Should I get a 28mm, 24 mm, or wider?
>tfw too many fucking lenses as it is

full frame or crop sensor camera? and what are you shooting?
>>3131186
Mostly street I guess. I have a pen f, so I have a 17.5mm, a 20 mm, and a 25 mm among others so it is micro 43 so the crop factor is x2
I am trying to figure out if there is a 14mm or wider worth buying
>>3131211
I'm planning to buy the samyang 12mm 2.0 for my aps-c mirrorless, its a very compact lense for small cameras and yields quality results, manual only though. it becomes a very comfy 24mm on m43 so you might check it out.

Why do I start feeling nervous and shitty and depressed when I haven't taken pictures for a few days. Am I fucking addicted to this shit? Is it healthy to be addicted to something. How do I stop this? Jesus Christ my life is spiraling before my eyes. What have I done
>>3131051
Because you're a photographer and photographers like taking photos and humans in general like to do things they... like?
>How do I stop this?
Fuck that. Lean into it. Do a picture-a-day project for a year. When that year's up, keep going. Take a photo every day for a decade. You'll get really good at photography.
Step 1 stop grimesposting
>>3131051
get a job at a camera store
you'll never take a photo in your life again
Idk how good this stuff is? In my opinion I should be burned at the stake for proving witches exist by creating these things. Jk, but idk if they're any good. Thoughts and comments?
>needing to self-deprecate in order to ask for constructive criticism
Is this a millennial thing?
Do you not have the balls to just post your shit with a few words of context and then asking us for our opinion?
>>3130809
Ultra gay. Don't take gay ass pictures of bugs and plants and shit. That's gay noon shit. People will think your a faggot.

Isn't it Big Benis?
So I have a Nikon D3200 with an 18mm-55mm vr lens. I want to be able to run through literal thunderstorms with high wind and rain. How can I make the camera waterproof?
>>3130428
caulk the seams.
>>3130452
and Rain-X on the front lens element to repel water
I saw this online with the EXIF: 20 seconds f/9, ISO 250.
So its presumably taken at night, yet I'm really confused about why is the mountain top and clouds so nicely lit up, as opposed to everything else.
Nice picture though..
>>3130349
infrared
go out at night and look up, that's your answer.
>>3130362
oh I've done some long exposures about some mountains in some national parks.
Never ever do I encounter this kind of contrast anywhere
an older dude who shops at the grocery store I work at just gave me this, three lights, a bunch of stands, and an entire second setup with a separate power supply. did I make the come-up of the year?
>>3130271
nice score, put it to use or maybe sell it, wish i knew more people who were willing to give stuff away
>>3130271
nice!
Have you used speedos before?
first thing to do is check the connectors for melted pins, if you notice a melted pin set that head aside until you can repair the connector.
second thing to always remember is to always power it off and discharge the pack using the test button, before plugging in or unplugging a head. doing so while it has a charge can cause it to discharge and arch. The arch if you are lucky will only melt a pin and if you are not lucky go through you. The arch WILL give you a very nasty burn and at worst can kill you.
3 never open the pack up unless you know what you are doing, you have 4 coke can size capacitors in there and each one can seriously fuck you up.
if you always power down and discharge it before handling it, they are very safe and you should have years off lighting options.
have fun

spedo uses Ready, Push to Flash not test
get a wireless slave like pocket wizard or cactus because the sync can send a charge to the camera.
and sometimes it matters which direction the houshold sync cord is positioned
I use a Norman pack which is very similar to Speedotron

Is bokeh really the be all end all ? What about the infinity focus point and shoot ? That will definitely reduce the quality of a shot, right ?

Bokeh is love. Bokeh is life. Anyone who tries to tell your otherwise is a filthy heathen who needs to be hanged.
come on guys
Bokeh is the crutch of the bad photographer with more money to waste on meme lenses than talent.
