I am launching a street vending/food truck/catering business in about a month. I anticipate doing at least one social media post per day. The addition of Snapbridge on the new D5600 is very appealing, assuming it works the way it is supposed to do. Unfortunately, I've been burned before by Nikon's wireless adapter and Olympus's so-call wifi connection. To make matters a little more complicated, buying a new D5600 will mean I have to sell my D7100.
So, anyone have any experience with Snapbridge and/or the Nikon D5600?

Tl;dw it sucks, just get a USB SD card reader and a USB OTG cable.
>>3047118
That was hard to browse, but thank you for sharing. I actually do own an official Apple SD reader. I had completely forgotten all about it until a guy at the camera store reminded me today.
>>3047113
>assuming it works the way it is supposed to do
Your assumption is wrong, it doesn't.
What did he mean by this?
>>3046973
Meh, leave him alone. He means well.
He's a little bit of a gearfag but that's likely why he actually tells you gear doesn't matter.
>>3046973
Because he is a trendwhore, instead of setting them, he just rides the wave of sweet views and clicks.
The Nikon F4 memery was really cringey, as if everyone was trying to shill their old gear and this was some attempt to raise their value.
I'd love it if he stopped rambling, because 70% of his speech is just wasted time.
"Gear doesn't matter but there's some that's a cut above the rest"

I mean you can do anything..
Easily? Still life shots at home especially of your cat.
But you need to understand that photos are meant to be shared and seen by others and as someone who has taken plenty of pictures of my pets I can tell you safely that no one gives a shit about your pets.
People like pictures of other people. They want to see other people who are attractive, or working, or fighting or doing literally anything. So get out there and start taking candid shots of people.
pretty girl pictures is about the easiest possible genre if you have the social skills. stick any 18-22 year old girl in front of your camera and within six months you'll have 3000 instagram followers and people dying to know what kind of camera and lens you use (even if it's the most basic possible shit; people get confused by their own boners).
If you don't have social skills, architectural photography is an easy way to piggyback off the hard work and design choices of others, and it seems to impress stupid people.
why does Sony produce APS-C cameras with 24 megapixels isn't that a little overblown wouldn't it be better to have 16 megapixels but 1-2 full stops better light sensitivity
>>3046909
No, bigger pixels != better low light performance.
It used to be more of a factor when the pitch in between pixel sites was much larger, leading to wasted space with higher mp counts, leading to a loss in sensitivity.
The sony a7rii has better low light performance than the a7, which has better low light performance than the a7s, this is because you can resample the larger shots and take an average from a group of pixels, giving usually more accurate results.
>>3046909
~24mp is the sweetspot for a modern sensor. You have no real light loss compared to a ~16mp from a few years ago.
Combine that with Sony's OSS lenses and IBIS bodies and it us a pretty solid setup.
Also, we have gear threads, post there next time.
>The sony a7rii has better low light performance than the a7, which has better low light performance than the a7s.
Uh no, the A7RII is better because it has a more advanced sensor architecture than the A7.
And the A7S is actually as good as the A7RII at high isos when you compare downsampled photos.

what do you guys use to view and edit your photos? i'm looking for something lightweight and quick, honestly the windows 8 photo app thingy works pretty well but just VIEWING the photos they're compressed as shit unless you zoom in and zoom back out, after which the photo looks crisp again. it's fucking annoying. looking for some shit thats not retardedly gaudy like gimp. honestly have not tried photoshop cause im scared to torrent it and y'allreadykno i'm a broke ass bitch
also side note ive noticed that setting pictures to my wallpaper is compressed to fuck as well, any fixes for this or the windows 8 photo app thing?
photodump in the meantime
So I have an Epson V600, and no matter what settings I use to scan negatives, it seems like I can never really get that much detail and the results just look kind of messy? I've seen a ton of people recommend this scanner and I've seen results online that don't have the issues I'm seeing in my scans so am I just missing something or is there better software that will improve my scan results? I'm scanning at 4800dpi with 24bit color and medium sharp mask.
Thanks, pic related is a crop of a test shot I took, notice the weird noise pattern and overall lack of sharpness despite it being in focus

Don't fall for the flatbed meme as a 35mm shooter.
>>3046813
Can't afford drum scanner tho and the results I got from photographing negatives were even worse because the colors required a lot of adjustment

Howdy /p/hotographers
Quick question from you guys since I've gotten some mixed opinions on a camera. I am not a photographer in the slightest, so I have no real idea of what things are good and bad, but I found this camera in a box with a bunch of other photography stuff in my grandma's house when we were cleaning out some old things from the basement. Its a Pentax ME Super, but that's all I really know. I asked some other folks I know but they didn't really give me an answer either way if its decent or not.
In the box was a short lens, a really long lens with a sliding jacket around it, a case for when the small lens is on the camera, a flash and a strap, I assume so you can wear it around your neck or something.
So, what are your guys' opinions on it? Should I keep it and try my hand at taking some photos to see if it even works?

The ME is, assuming it works, a well serviceable film camera. It doesn't have a cult following unlike some other K-mount cameras.
> Should I keep it and try my hand at taking some photos to see if it even works?
Yes.
>>3046552
Before taking any photos check the mirror foam. Old, sticky foam will leave hard to clean residue on the mirror so it's better to be safe than sorry.
>>3046567
I'm not sure what that is but I'll take a picture of what I think it is.

Got 15 minutes to decide, should I buy a Olympus E-410 10.0MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Kit w/ 14-42mm Lens) for possibly less than £75?
please dont buy a 4/3 slr. Yor viewfinder will be smaller than a late 90's bargain bin compact 35mm point and shoot with the f8.3 lens and zoom ovf.
>>3046461
So it's viewfinder will look like a 4:3 ratio screen and have shitty zoom? I am a green as grass beginner and I'm thinking of picking up photography as a new hobby and maybe career if I get good.
>>3046471
the viewfinder will be 4:3 and look incredibly tiny. not to mention dark. a panasonic g1 or olympus ep2 with clip on evf are both much better choices, but slightly more expensive at about $80 body only
Does this movie romanticize the photojournalist lifestyle? Ir are photojournalists just inherently rugged, philosophical life gurus?
>>3046365
yes
Mostly frauds who forge poetry or symbolism out of nothing.
>>3046399
This is what I typically see with photojournalists although war photography is another topic.
Hey I'm usually from /toy/ and I need to get a filter fory camera (canon powershot SX50 HS). Right now when I go outside to take photos I have to do it in the shade or when it's cloudy because the sun light is too harsh. Which filter would work? And where can I get such a thing?

get a neutral density filter, it will filter out bright light
>>3046133

>>3046153
tell us what sort of camera/lens you have.
Hey, /p/, I come to you to ask for help or at least come knowledge.
I'm not nearly someone experienced with photography, but I'm pretty excited to start out with it, being in a third world shithole though, it's kind of impossible to get a camera, so I got one borrowed, it was a Canon Poweshot S3 IS (pic related)
So after putting the batteries on it and turning it on, all I can see it's black, like something was in front of the camera or as if everything was dark, but i can see the icons of the display.
Is something broken? Is there any way I could fix this?

Going to SFMoMA tomorrow with a friend I haven't seen in 6 years, turns out he became an artsy photofag like myself since I last saw him. I want to take him to some good spots before he goes back to Canada.
Any good/hidden spots near MoMA?

Bay Area resident here.
the walk along the bay is beautiful, at night there are new lights along the bridge that light up the water across the bay in a sort of mirage, perfect for photography.
AT&T park is cool.
China town is a close walk and is probably the best china town in the country, very authentic and pretty, I recommend you go to Li Po's cocktail bar.
Union Square is also a close walk.
Nob hill is very upscale.
If you go to china town go to Coit Tower, sure it is a long walk but if you guys arent bitches coit tower is one of the best spots to see things in the city. Don't go up the tower itself, you have to pay and the view is whatever, the base of the tower is very cool.
If I were you I would go to the Beach Chalet Brewery & Restaurant, very beautiful area. From there you can go to an amazing spot the sutro baths.
Baker Beach is the best photo place for the bridge.
Hope any of this helped.
>>3045387
Also, stay off of market mostly, market street is garbage.
>>3045387
Thanks! I'll be sure to do some research on the spots and plan out a route for us to go tomorrow
