So I have an Epson V600, and no matter what settings I use to scan negatives, it seems like I can never really get that much detail and the results just look kind of messy? I've seen a ton of people recommend this scanner and I've seen results online that don't have the issues I'm seeing in my scans so am I just missing something or is there better software that will improve my scan results? I'm scanning at 4800dpi with 24bit color and medium sharp mask.
Thanks, pic related is a crop of a test shot I took, notice the weird noise pattern and overall lack of sharpness despite it being in focus

Don't fall for the flatbed meme as a 35mm shooter.

Can't afford drum scanner tho and the results I got from photographing negatives were even worse because the colors required a lot of adjustment

No what I mean is the colors from the scans are fine, the detail isn't. I'm not doing anything to correct for detail so the above pic is a crop from an untouched scan.
With photographing negatives (not scanning), the colors are just really bad and require heavy adjustment to look reasonable, in my experience.
