My car stalled in the middle of the road because of the ignition was on its way, the car was still rolling while the engine was dead and I panicked by putting it into park, I heard the worst gearbox crunch of my life. I thought my car was toast at that point but being the 1987 Corolla that it is, it still runs fine to this day.

Anyone use these quick drain plugs? I just picked one up. Would make oil changes for me tool free. Best part I can easily attach a hose, and not get hot oil all over my hands when I remove the drain plug.

You do this once, at most twice, per year
Its a single bolt, and the only trouble comes when its not properly lubed, the head is rusted or tightened too hard

Why depend on a mechanism when you can have a standard plug that is so much less likely to fail?

>Anyone use these quick drain plugs?
This is the case of a product looking too hard for a problem. It is a solution that basically trades convenience for engine risk. They have a significant chance of failing or even causing a lot of damage in some circumstances.

Negative Reason #1:
First of all, it protrudes quite a distance from the oil pan. If the car runs over an obstacle, this protrusion can "hook" onto something and cause it to rip loose from the oil pan.

Negative reason #2:
Anything protruding from the bottom of the car reduces the effective ground clearance of the car. Looking at the bottom of my car, this spigot would be the one thing protruding out of the otherwise smooth "plane" of metalwork on the bottom.

Negative reason #3:
The spigot reduces the flow rate of oil from the bottom of the pan where sludge can deposit. Thus, more of the sludge is retained between oil changes.

Negative reason #4:
The screw threaded portion of the spigot protrudes into the oil pan. This means that inside the oil pan, the bottom few millimeters of oil cannot be drained due to the height of the spigot intake inside the oil reservoir. This means silt will deposit and be stored in the oil reservoir.
>>
>>17198252
1. Most new cars have bottom engine covers that negate any negative protrusion

2. see 1

3. new cars dont get much sludge, but anyone who does their own oil changes should monitor the oil health, and remove the entire drain plug once a year anyway

4. false. As you can see the threaded portion is the same as any other plug.
and this is coming from a guy who ruined his oil pan with one of these because it was a bit too low, and I sheared it off going over shitty railroad tracks.

>lean over into passenger side
>repeat mirror adjustment

you now no longer have to check for blind spots

Lotus elise
vs
Porsche boxster
What would be a better sporty track car to aim for? I'm just dreaming here, they both seem like good cheap cars. Not something to drive everyday, but for weekends and the track.
Lotus' seem to be more expensive but I assume they would be better, but are they worth more?
I guess while we're at it, post your reasonable dream cars.

Lotus if we're talking pre718 boxster. Even then, still prolly lotus. The boxster/boxster S are basically just one of the most sporty, practical cars you can get and daily drive. Not so much for a lotus. They're just two completely different animals.
>>
>>17219247
>most sporty, practical cars
that's what I like about them, currently I only own motorcycles and while a lotus would be more pratical than a bike it'd be nice for some comfort with the porsche. Considering the boxster is cheaper I would be able to do some things to it hopefully, or would it still not be on the same level.
All that being said, the lotus attracts me a little more just the cost is the biggest issue I suppose.
>>
>>17219230
While the lotus is undoubtedly sexier looking, I'd strongly suggest you look at one in person.

Believe it or not, it's more convenient to go grocery shopping or driving a passenger around in a bike.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTLDP28XTlg
Just remember these britcucks in the video are manlets, compare the size of the little compact cars next to the lotus. If you're over 5'7" you're gunna have an awkward time.

Should I follow the sticky's recommendation on starter bikes, even if I have ZERO experience riding one? I was thinking perhaps a dirt or pit bike for experience/getting comfortable, then maybe a Ninja 300 a little later? Pic related is being sold used near me which I've been considering

starting on a dirt bike (in the dirt) is probably the best thing you could possibly do as a brand new rider.
anyone who says otherwise is a retarded know nothing commuter.
like every ama superbike national champion ever started in motocross or flat track.
the bike control you learn on dirt is invaluable and its safe(er)
>>
dont get a pit bike though get a fullsize frame.

i mean you can start on a little road bike if you want but if youre serious about acquiring bike skills and being safe, having a dirt bike for 6 months or a year or whatever will be the best possible path.
>>
>>17219157
That's what I was thinking. That, and riding around in the dirt looks major fun. I was unaware most professional bikers started off in motocross. Appreciate the input

Bought this intercooler for my car as the stock intercooler is 175x80 or something shit as fuck, still need to get cold side piping and a CAI and battery relocation to delete the cross over piping. Hoping for ~450rwhp.

What mods does /o/ need/want for their turbo cars? And what sort of power figure are you hoping to see?

The Problem: https://youtu.be/StEaqE3SFeo

The initial problem code was: P1297 No Change in MAP sensor from start to run.

What I have done so far: Replaced map sensor, it did nothing, anon mentioned to poke around with a multi-meter, so I did, using a haynes manual as reference, I found out that the Voltage supply is showing 0.01 to 0.02 volts The sensor ground is getting 5.00.

Also I'm getting a new code now P0122: Check for breaks, chafing, loose or disconnected wiring

Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input.

The P1297 No Change in MAP sensor code is not showing up anymore?

What do I do next anons?????

2017 STI owner here with 3,400km on it.

I have ground gears about 7-10 times in the 3 months I've owned it (learning to drive manual on it).

I thought I was over it but just today on the way home I ground 3rd while having some WOT fun. It lasts maybe a second then I nail the clutch. I guess some times I release the clutch before the gear is fully engaged.

Is my transmission kill? Honestly I feel like I should just park this thing until I can drive it properly.

Or is it not as bad as I think?

Please advise.
