>Who at home mechanic here?
Had a little car trouble today when it wouldn't start at all, It would turn over, rumble a little bit and die right away
Opened the hood, fixed the issue since I know quite a bit about my own car and a thoght came to me, how many people out there really don't know how cars/engines work and they would just get a tow truck out there to tow to some shop nearby and the fix is literally an easy thing to diagnose...

They did a study in the UK and found that only 30% of the population knew how to change a light bulb. So 10% of the population being competent enough to work on a car could be generous.

cockroach brits can barely be considered people, though.
Two full sized bays, one big enough for heavy duty work the other for any other sort of vehicle alongside a 6x10 metalworking table. MIG, TIG, stick, plasma, lathe, steel rack, 200gal shop compressor, snapon overhead extension cords as well as trouble lights. HPS lighting with wall mounted fluorescents, office.
So the sheet metal on the underside of my rocker panels are rusting. Looks like all surface for now. Paint is peeling off.
Effextice way to totally halt corrosion?
I was thinking of removing the flaking paint then grinding the panels and coating with a couple layers of Tremclad and then clear coat.
Doesnt have to loom perfect. Its not visible unless you bend down.
>I was thinking of removing the flaking paint then grinding the panels and coating with a couple layers of Tremclad and then clear coat
Yeah, that's pretty much the best thing you can do

Any specific product you recommend commercially available?

I was told raptor spray is so strong that you could hide under your car during a nuclear explosion and survive
What do you guys think about my car. I love it its the 16v and everything works right. Im going to be doing some mods on it.
I usually don't enjoy acting like a cunt, but do you think you bought the right car if the things you like are the amount of valves and the fact that everything works? What about the way it handles? Its simple build? Its good design?
I want to go for this look but smaller bbs style wheels.
>>17208297
I think its fine, does it have the correct engine?
It'd make for an very interesting track car if you butchered everything.
Now that we live in a world where V6 engines have effectively replaced the V8, automatics transmissions are faster than manuals, and hybrid/electric cars are faster than ones with gasoline engines, how long until FWD becomes the new performance layout for drivetrains?
hmmmmmmm????
>>17208165
the moment laws of physics stop working the way they do.
>>17208165
soon, we just need to update the rear engine, front wheel drive layout
How long should it take a shop to swap an engine out for a different one?
Do it yourself for $500 and an afternoon.
>>17207952
No more than a day, tops. I watched 3 people do it in an afternoon in a field at a car show.
>>17207972
I have no idea what I'm doing lol.

ITT: how to spot nu-male drivers
>drives with hands at 10 and 2
>>17207893
Do you mean cuck boi's
If so , not weaving in and out, speeding, using blinkers if not specifically asking someone to let you merge in
10 and 2 I don't really agree with, if your driving hard it's probably a decent idea to have 2 hands on the wheel.
Except shifting, fags drive auto unless it's a work truck
Where do you put your hands, faggot? One at 12 and the other on your vape stick?

Any guy in a Prius
I want to DD a RWD for 1,5-2k€. But:
Old Mercs are heavy landbarges
Opel Omega isn't my type
Most of BMW sedans are beaten to death by shitty drivers.
I'm starting to think that buying a wagon BMW can be a good compromise. They aren't as much desirable as sedan or cabrio. Any of BMW made in 90s with 2.0l engine could work.
Redpill me, /o/.
pic related: '98 E39, 2.0, just 100km from my place. For 1700€.

Tell me why I should NOT buy an SW20?
Also eurofag, so only viable option is the NA.
>>17207656
The only problem is rust, and it might not be very good as a daily
>>17207656
Can you wrench? You're gonna be wrenching. If you can and are willing to or can't but want to learn and put in the work do it. If you cant, dont. You'll either pay too much for one to get one that you don't gotta work on beyond normal maint or you'll have a project on your hands.
>>17207675
Willing to learn and putting a lot of work on it, but I would pay more to get a good one.
Why do so many people here think cash is the best option when buying a car?
If you're in the market for, say, a 20k car and you have a good credit rating, you can gain more money by parking the cash you would otherwise spend on a car in a low-risk investment account. When will the 'only pay with cash' meme die?
I learned after the recession is better to have cash in the bank and a car loan than it is to have a car that is completely paid off and little money in the bank.
>low risk investment
>Having a decent turn with 20k
Pick one
>>17207634
I only recommend it because it's what I wish I had done.
I make $50k a year presently yet still live paycheck to paycheck due to student loans. Add rent and a 20k financed car payment into the mix and I have little left to actually "save" like I should.
Those memelords sperging about 3k civics aren't totally wrong.
Sometimes an auto loan is an irresponsible thing to acquire, even though dealerships are ready to hand them out like lollipops.
I'm thinking of getting a new mini soon. Anything stand out that I should know about it compared to the 2013 model I used to own?
>>17207535
yeah its shit and your previous car was shit.
>>17207535
r u a qt grl
>>17207547
maybe? I really like the acceleration on the mini. It's very swift.
So I have a legit question. Does anyone know what gives the 2017 BRZ and 86 5 more horsepower? I don't think they changed the bore/stroke or anything, did they just give the ecu a better tune?
Also discuss lesser known 86 mods (we all know about air intakes, exhausts, and turbos. I'd like to talk about shit like cam plates, fuel rail covers, the miniscule stuff. Velox motor sports has a lot of off the wall parts for the 86, more stuff like that)
And before you start memeing, everybody knows 205 horsepower is underpowered, we don't need to have THOSE threads again,
How much power/torque can I get out of a 86 while staying NA? I could get a supercharger/turbo for 3500 so let's say my budget is 2500.
>>17207267
Just get nitrous and the required supporting mods
Still N/A as long as you dont spray
>>17207267
I think around 40 more horsepower is the limit, and I believe that's on E85. Still 245 horsepower for a 2800 pound car is pretty tight.
I live in a snowy climate, and my shitty province has made buying disposable $300 shitboxes for the winter borderline-impossible.

>>17207114
A man who needs a car to look manly for him is no man at all.
What's the point of tachometers?
Any minimally skilled driver with an IQ above 70 can shift by engine sound alone.
Most manual cars in the 1980s and earlier didn't have one. This is the age of babby-tier vehicles.
