Max's Law moves a step closer as organ donor 'opt-out' bill unveiled in Parliament

>The move is a major boost for our Change the Law for Life campaign - or Max’s Law - which calls for the introduction of a system where every person is deemed an organ donor unless they specifically opt out.

>The system is already in place in Wales and is being introduced in Scotland.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/maxs-law-moves-step-closer-10832174

------------------------------

The UK is considering "Max's Law" which would make everyone in the country a default organ donor unless they fill out paperwork explicitly refusing to donate.

This is a huge big deal, similar laws have been considered in some U.S. states, most recently in Texas.

Under current US laws the donor is signing away rights without having any idea of the magnitude of their decision to "click the box". Current brain death testing guidelines are crude at best, and after signing up as a donor the donor's family has NO legal right to demand more tests once someone is declared brain dead. Mistakes regarding brain death diagnosis happen all of the time.

90% of organs come from living/breathing "brain dead" donors that undergo hours of surgery WITHOUT anesthesia. Yes, really, that is well documented in the protocol manuals turned out on the subject. Folks really need to know the laws and current practices to make an informed decision, if you do nothing you are at risk of undergoing vivisection without anesthesia even under current US laws that are not "opt out" yet.

Here is a video that covers the current US laws and medical practices involved with organ harvesting, it is scary stuff and includes multiple legit sources:

Doctor here. The amount of mistrust in the medical profession these days is staggering. Son, brain dead is brain dead, anyone who's finished medschool can spot it. This "controversy" has been created by families who can't accept reality that cause media shitstorms.
>>
You are right, a CORRECT brain death diagnosis really is "dead", and in fact the person's heart will stop within a short amount of time even on a respirator.

On the other hand people that have been MISDIAGNOSED as brain dead have in fact woken on, some while on the surgery table being prepped for organ donation. Since anesthesia is not used for brain dead donors even a 1 in a million chance of a "wrong diagnosis" would be absolutely horrific.
>>
In addition there have been criminal cases where doctor's were charged for overdosing organ donors to induce cardiac death. One is being investigated right now in Los Angeles, even worse the L.A. Coroner's department is alleged to have covered up for fatal drug overdoses by not testing the autopsy blood of organ donors for ages. So if people mistrust the "medical community" they may have legit reasons. Article here: http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-adv-organ-donation-20170612-story.html

http://www.jpost.com/Diaspora/US-T-shirt-company-sells-swastika-design-as-symbol-of-love-and-peace-501687

>The US-based clothing design website Teespring is selling T-shirts and sweatshirts branded with swastikas, aiming to make them a “symbol of love and peace”.

>The designs, created by KA Designs and sold on the site, all display large swastikas in the front. One shows the Nazi-associated symbol in rainbow colors with the word “Peace”, another one with the word “Zen”, one reading “Love” and a third design, in black, shows a spiral of swastikas. They range in price from $20 to $35.

>“Here at KA we explore boundaries. We push them forward.” the company wrote as a description for the products. “Let’s make the swastika a symbol of Love and Peace. Together, we can succeed.”

>Before being used by Hitler’s German Nazi regime, swastikas were commonly known as an ancient sign used by Hindus and Buddhists carrying positive associations such as auspiciousness and good fortune. KA Designs is attempting to relate the now negative sign to its origins.

>The company even made a promotional video claiming that the Nazis “took the swastika, rotated it 45 degrees, and turned it into a symbol of hatred, fear, war, racism, power.”

>“They stigmatized the swastika, they won, they limited our freedom, or maybe not?” the video continues. “The swastika is coming back.”

>On some of the tee shirts sold by KA Designs, the swastika remains turned by 45 degrees, similarly to the Nazis’ use of the symbol.

So... How long til we see some of these liberal protesters fighting in the streets whilst donning the swastika?

>So... How long til we see some of these liberal protesters fighting in the streets whilst donning the swastika?

Never.

They don't WANT you to take it back, they don't want to undo the stigma of any of this. Their entire goal is that when a symbol is attached with a stigma they deem offensive, it's outright GONE. This would undermine everything they wanted to do in order to limit how certain words can be used, what symbols are 'allowed', what actions are permitted, and so on. You'll sooner see them rioting to destroy every shirt 'for the sake of peace' than you will any one of them actually trying to let something they hate be anything other than what they've deemed it to be.
>>

But they are insane and contradict themselves frequently... Surely there will be those who would done it... Otherwise this T-shirt wouldn't exit, right?

In a dossier compiled by the liberal ALDE grouping, which is headed by Brexit negotiator Guy Verhofstadt, MEPs call for “EU integrated military forces” to intervene on behalf of the bloc across the globe.

They say Brussels needs “autonomous” military capabilities which would have their own budget, be under the direct command of eurocrats and wear the EU ensign into battle.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/837340/Brexit-news-MEPs-unveil-plan-for-EU-army-navy-and-air-force-Britain-left

It adds: “The integrated military forces should be progressively put under a single command, accountable to the EUCO President. As is the case with Eurocorps now, the European Integrated Military Forces would be marked by an EU insignia.”
The dossier concludes: “The ability to defend one’s citizens is the ultimate embodiment of sovereignty. Europeans have dithered about common defence for more than half a century. Now it is time to face facts.
“National militaries have been economised down and hollowed out. At the same time, Member States face urgent problems of a magnitude far beyond what national responses can hope to solve.
“European defence is therefore not about giving up the ability to act, but about reclaiming it - and safeguarding everything that European integration stands for.”

this is an insane power grab. Y people who were not even elected into their positions. They already speak for other smaller countries on immigration, now they want an army that countries inside the EU have no say in?

This is ridiculous.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- The United States is preparing for a "preventive war" with North Korea among many options to deal with its missile and nuclear threats, President Trump's top security adviser has said.

In an interview aired Saturday on MSNBC, National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster said the president has been clear he will not tolerate North Korea's threats to attack the U.S. with nuclear weapons.
A preventive war is initiated to prevent an enemy from carrying out an attack.

http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/national/2017/08/06/0301000000AEN20170806000200315.html

"What you're asking is are we preparing plans for a preventive war, right?" McMaster said. "If they have nuclear weapons that can threaten the United States. It's intolerable from the president's perspective. So of course, we have to provide all options to do that. And that includes a military option."
North Korea carried out two tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles last month, claiming the entire U.S. mainland is within its striking range.
Trump's willingness to go to war with North Korea was mentioned by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) earlier this week. He said the president told him there would be a war with North Korea if the regime continues to try to hit America with an ICBM.
Many experts doubt the North has mastered the technology to mount a nuclear weapon on a missile capable of reaching the U.S. But they also recognize the faster than expected pace of development of its nuclear and missile programs.

There is no way to make shooting a criminal in the face anything but brutal....but if it is justified I am tired of hearing these moron "activists" complaining about cops just doing what cops are supposed to do......

Police are supposed to represent morality and justice, and justice has no reason to be unnecessarily brutal. There's no reason that an officer should be allowed to injure a criminal once they have been subdued. The criminal is already facing legal punishment and will have their freedom taken away, that is punishment enough. Standards for police behavior are what separates us as Americans from less progressive/developed nations (and we ARE a progressive nation, consider reading our constitution if you disagree). The fact that even our criminals have limited rights is what makes us an example of a nation with morality written into law, and it is, in fact, the very ideal that "makes America great".
And FYI, sage doesn't mean dick on /news/, because most everyone views posts by date posted. You should go back to your containment board and stay there.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) apparently wants struggling working-class Americans to stay poor, saying he is opposed to President Donald Trump’s proposed immigration cuts.
Trump, along with Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA), this week introduced the RAISE Act, a largely merit-based immigration program that aims to protect U.S. taxpayers and American workers by reducing legal immigration and putting upward pressure on wages.
“I just think arbitrary cuts to legal immigration don’t take into effect the economy’s needs as the boomers are retiring,” Ryan told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Friday afternoon. “With baby boomers leaving the workforce, we’re still going to have labor shortages in certain areas and that is where a well-reformed legal immigration system should be able to make up the difference.”
Breitbart News’ John Carney’s analysis determined that the bill, which would cut “legal immigration into the United States by half and grant entry based on education, the ability to speak English, and jobs skills,” would actually make working-class Americans wealthier because “the gross domestic product per U.S. resident would grow.”
Massive and unchecked legal immigration based on current law often prevents many Americans from moving up from the middle class for it allows high-tech companies, for instance, to use H-1B visas to displace Americans from good-paying technological jobs and replace them with foreigners who are not as qualified. In addition, it also prevents millions of Americans from moving into the middle class or even entering the workforce and getting on the economic ladder by putting downward pressure on wages or making it more difficult for Americans to find jobs that do not require advanced degrees.

A new product created in a "desperate attempt to avoid using condoms" involves men using a sticker to seal their urethras shut during sex.

The product, named "Jiftip", is a sticker that covers the urethra during sex, and is touted as a way to “Feel your partner, Feel Freedom, Feel Safe.”

Except it's not exactly safe.

While Jiftip may sound like a dream come true for those who don't like the way condoms feel during sex, many health professionals warn there is no evidence the product is effective in preventing STDs or pregnancy.

Jamin Brahmbhatt, a physician with Orlando Health, said users who visit Jiftip's website also have to dig to find the company's disclaimer that the product is "not intended or approved to prevent pregnancy or STI's." Whoops.

And the product's disclaimer gets even more alarming in the frequently asked question section:

"BUT WHAT ABOUT HERPES, HPV?" the company asks. "Jiftip only protects pleasure and convenience, not STI's or pregnancy." Bottom line: You're on your own, friends.

Brahmbhatt notes that the entire marketing campaign around the product is alarming.

“Consumers often get caught up in the hype and forget risk,” Brahmbhatt said. “Even in the product’s disclaimer, it says it will not prevent pregnancy or STDs, which is the only reason people wear condoms in the first place.”

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/08/03/should-you-seal-your-penis-shut-jiftip-sticker-during-sex-its-risky-doctor-says/535588001/

The website notes that Jiftip, which comes in a three pack for $6, should only be used with the pull-out method, and that it's not recommended to ejaculate with the patch on during sex.

Brahmbhatt notes that those who do leave the patch on when they ejaculate may experience pain or irritation from the patch blocking the urethra while the man has "natural spasms that evacuate all the fluid." It's also possible that the adhesive could be an irritant for some with sensitive skin.

He said for those who are worried about STDs or pregnancy, the bottom line is condoms are the safest option.

"Condoms are tried and tested," he said. "They are an effective form of birth control and control against STDs. Condoms are not the enemy."

As President Trump and congressional Republicans ponder big tax cuts to boost the U.S. economy, Kansas has become a cautionary tale.

>Prodded by Gov. Sam Brownback, a Republican, Kansas embarked on a major tax overhaul in 2012, reducing the top income tax rate from 6.45 percent to 4.9 percent and eliminating income tax on some businesses altogether.

>Convinced they could turn the state into a heartland magnet for businesses seeking to flee high-tax states on the coasts, Republican lawmakers instead punched a huge hole in their budget. Facing mounting bills and shrinking revenue, the Legislature last month defied Mr. Brownback’s veto and moved to reverse some of its cuts.

>Whether the Kansas experiment is a referendum on conservative, low-tax policies is an open question. Obsession with tax rates often obscures other factors in businesses’ decision-making, such as the availability of a good workforce, quality of life for employees, and proximity to airports and other infrastructure, analysts say.

>“You can’t just have the tax issue in isolation,” said Richard C. Auxier, a tax policy researcher at the Urban Institute. “There’s no clear link between tax cuts and growth.”

>With the next big round of gubernatorial elections looming next year, debates over competitiveness and supply-side tax policy are likely to heat up.

>At the national level, the Trump administration is counting on a massive tax rate cut to pay for itself in the long run through accelerated economic growth. Mr. Brownback’s office is rejecting complaints by liberals and centrist Republicans in the Legislature that the tax cuts did not attract enough business to the state to pay for themselves.

>“In efforts to make Kansas the best state in America to raise a family and grow a business, Gov. Brownback cut income taxes for all working Kansans and completely lifted the income tax burden from small businesses. It worked,” said communications director Melika Willoughby. “Kansas set a record for new businesses formed every year since the tax cuts, and the state’s unemployment rate is under 4 percent — the lowest it’s been in over 16 years.”

>Kansas is hardly the only state facing a budget impasse. Deep-blue Illinois is struggling with its own tax-and-spending problems, in part a legacy of generous pension promises to state workers that the state cannot meet.

>But Mr. Brownback’s critics say overall growth and job creation lagged behind the national average and even behind other Midwestern states despite the tax cuts in 2012 and 2013.

>At the same time, the state was facing an estimated $900 million budget deficit over the next two years despite a series of spending cuts. The state Supreme Court ordered the state government to increase funding for lagging public schools by $293 million over the next two years.

>It’s hard to celebrate because Kansas is in such shambles,” state Rep. Melissa Rooker, a Republican from Kansas City suburb of Fairway, told The Wichita Eagle after the June vote to override Mr. Brownback’s veto of tax hikes. “The magnitude of the problems that we have to correct is so great.”

>Adam Michel, a tax policy analyst at the conservative Heritage Foundation, said Kansas’ problem wasn’t the tax cut but how the state handled it. He said eliminating taxes for some corporations created an incentive for businesses to “recharacterize” income, which created an unsustainable financial picture.

>“Their reform wasn’t designed properly,” Mr. Michel said.
>>
>Other commentators haven’t been so kind. William G. Gale, an economist and senior fellow at the left-leaning Brookings Institution, noted that Mr. Brownback in 2012 promised that the tax cuts would represent “a shot of adrenaline in the heart of the Kansas economy.”

>Mr. Gale wrote in a blog post last month: “While the tax cut turned into a debacle, there is a potential silver lining: three clear messages for policymakers on federal tax reform. First, tax cuts won’t boost growth. Second, special tax rates for businesses will surely generate tax sheltering and revenue losses, but will not produce much new business activity. And third, most important, when Americans see what their tax dollars buy, they choose higher revenues and more government spending over lower taxes and draconian program cuts.”

>Tax cuts and business decisions

>Done right, however, tax cuts can draw businesses to states, Mr. Michel argued.

>“We see in large, aggregate data that tax cuts would affect a company’s decision,” Mr. Michel said. “If you’re going to build a factory in a low-tax state versus a high-tax state, you’re going to pick the lower-tax state. It’s not always the case that the company leaves a high-tax state, but their next factory or venture, the lower tax rate will be a factor.”

>General Electric Co., the technology conglomerate, faced such a choice.

>GE officials warned Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy in 2014 that the state’s business tax was already high and the company would consider moving if it was raised.

>Mr. Malloy, a Democrat, promised he wouldn’t raise the tax. After winning his re-election bid in 2014, he announced $750 million in new business taxes. Massachusetts lawmakers swept in to offer GE $25 million in property tax breaks and $120 million in grants toward public works.

>GE broke ground on its new headquarters in Boston this year. Boston offered more than tax relief, though.
>>
>GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt cited the region’s concentration of high-quality universities, Massachusetts’ commitment to research and development, and the state’s tech-savvy workforce.

>“Boston was selected after a careful evaluation of the business ecosystem, talent, long-term costs, quality of life for employees, connections with the world and proximity to other important company assets,” Mr. Immelt said in the press release announcing the move.

>In a study of the move last year, Manhattan Institute fellow Aaron Renn said Boston has the right combination of workforce availability, accessibility and growth potential that draws companies to the area. With the right incentives, including tax breaks, companies can be enticed to move to such states.

>It’s all about finding a mix that fits a company, analysts said. Arizona and Florida have some of the lowest corporate tax rates in the nation, but they also have some of the lowest high school graduation rates in the country.

>Wisconsin might have higher graduation rates, but its population migration continues to be net negative — meaning more people are moving out of than into the state.

>Chris Edwards, an analyst at the libertarian Cato Institute warns that states can make only marginal changes because the federal government represents such large parts of their economies.

>“State governments follow the national government,” he said. “The federal government is so much bigger and overwhelms what states can do.”

>Amid global competition for businesses, there is only so much one state can do to affect outcomes, analysts said, and tax policy is just a small part of that.

>“The federal government dominates everything states do,” Mr. Edwards said. “The federal government is so much bigger and overwhelms what states can do.”

Nearly half of self-identifying liberals feel their relationship with a friend would be strained if they voted for Donald Trump, while conservatives remain far more tolerant of their liberal counterparts, a study from the Pew Research Center has found.

The national survey of 2,505 adults, conducted by the Pew Research Center from June 27 to July 9, found that 47 percent of self-identifying liberals claimed their relationship with a friend would be strained if they found out they supported Donald Trump, while among Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, the figure is 35 percent.

White or well-educated Democrats find it even tougher, with 40 percent of white Democrats, and 44 percent of college graduates, saying they would also feel strain over a friend’s support for the president.

Meanwhile, right-wingers tend to be far more tolerant of their liberal or Democratic counterparts, with just 13 percent of Republican or Republican leaning voters claiming a friend’s support for Hillary Clinton would put a strain on their relationship.

Such sentiments were also endorsed by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton last year, who described half of Trump’s voters as a “basket of deplorables,” made up of “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic” people.

Another takeaway from the study was that 68 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters found it “stressful and frustrating” to converse with someone with a different opinion on Trump, while just 52 percent of Republican and GOP-leaning voters feel the same.

A separate study conducted by Pew Research last August found that 47 percent of Clinton supporters said they had no friends supporting Trump, compared to 31 percent of Trump voters who had no friends supporting Clinton.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/31/health/opioid-commission-emergency-declaration/index.html

The opioid epidemic is a symptom of a sickness: a broken human society.

The reason why opioids have become such an “overnight” epidemic is because they are produced by pharmaceutical companies that profit from their production and sale.

Easy solution in ONE DAY:

The U.S. Congress can pass a law TOMORROW that bans the production and sale of all synthetic opioids. If they do, the Senators and Congress Representatives will lose the support and campaign contributions of the pharmaceutical companies.

Put The Humanity Party® politicians in power and we’ll stop the epidemic … and replace it with something that just might cure the cause: a broken human society without hope and full of depression.

And, until the cause is cured, we will offer alternatives to address the symptoms: THE LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA and other natural drugs that a person can grow in their own home for FREE.
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Many of the deaths from opioids are the result of the illegal sale and transfer of the drugs, not their legal use for actual chronic pain disorders.

After a further review by THumP®’s Board of Directors, here are the first five steps that a THumP® government would take to solve the opioid epidemic:
>>
>>163555
Make Marijuana legal
>>
1. Control the money supply. Eliminate a cash based economy by eliminating all cash transactions. Eliminate, by law, any form of a financial transaction that isn’t government regulated. This would allow the government to track every financial transaction, of any kind. This would greatly impede the black market and virtually eliminate the illegal drug trade.

2. Decriminalize ALL drug use, of any kind. Enact stronger laws against unscrupulous doctors and drug manufacturers, not laws against the people who take them. Fund FREE rehabilitation centers throughout the United States, making these centers safe, secure, free, beautiful places where one would want to go and stay to get help with their addiction.

3. Fund the research and development of drugs that help the chronically ill, however they need to be helped, but regulate how doctors prescribe the medication. Once prescribed, the financial transaction is followed, because the government pays for all prescribed medications with THumP®’s single-payer health insurance plan. Because all financial transactions are transparent and subject to government oversight, no person can sell their prescribed medication to another without realizing that their financial transaction is recorded and monitored.

4. Regulate the medical fields with pragmatic and humane laws that protect the people. Doctors will no longer be allowed free reign to prescribe the medications to people who don’t need the medication.

5. Give all people the Basic Necessities of Life, FREE of charge. Most of the misery experienced by people comes from the job that they FORCED to do out of necessity. Providing people with the freedom of choice to pursue individual happiness as they perceive happiness, will greatly reduce the hopelessness and emotional strain modern slavery causes human beings. Drug use is dependent on the user’s emotional health.

The Humanity Party® has the solutions.

On June 9, the telecoms got an Anton Piller order, a civil search warrant that gives a plaintiff access to a defendant's home, without notice, to search for and seize relevant evidence before it can be destroyed.

Cool, so when do citizens get to take out warrants on these corporations to investigate the myriad crimes they have almost certainly committed?

I would just say I won't open the door without a public defender and a cop present, then microwave all drives.

They will just kick in the door. You have no right to refuse a court order. You can call your lawyer from the front lawn. The police are already there to enforce the court order (and stop you from denying entrance)

Chinese tourists were detained in Berlin for making the straight-armed Hitler salute for photos in front of the Reichstag parliament building, a police spokeswoman said on Sunday.

The holidaymakers were spotted by officers on a routine patrol Saturday snapping smartphone pictures of each other posing with the banned gesture outside the historic landmark in the heart of the German capital.

"A probe on suspicion of using the symbols of anti-constitutional organisations was opened against the two Chinese men, aged 36 and 49," the spokeswoman told AFP.

The pair were questioned at a local police station and released after paying €500 bail each.

Using the symbols of anti-constitutional organisations, a charge frequently levelled against members of far-right groups, can carry a sentence of up to three years in jail sentence or a fine.

That was the supposed maximum if he were charged for all. Last time I checked, it was major ones. At the very most, I doubt he's gonna serve that long.

*no major ones
Probably for his case, he might serve less or none depending on what happens next.

Good. Institutional racism needs to be abolished

I'm generally left leaning and I think this is a good idea.

Diversity in and of itself is all right, but at the end of the day race quotas and this 'against merit' system are more evidence that schools in this country are getting progressively more greedy.
