>The US-based clothing design website Teespring is selling T-shirts and sweatshirts branded with swastikas, aiming to make them a “symbol of love and peace”.

>The designs, created by KA Designs and sold on the site, all display large swastikas in the front. One shows the Nazi-associated symbol in rainbow colors with the word “Peace”, another one with the word “Zen”, one reading “Love” and a third design, in black, shows a spiral of swastikas. They range in price from $20 to $35.

>“Here at KA we explore boundaries. We push them forward.” the company wrote as a description for the products. “Let’s make the swastika a symbol of Love and Peace. Together, we can succeed.”

>Before being used by Hitler’s German Nazi regime, swastikas were commonly known as an ancient sign used by Hindus and Buddhists carrying positive associations such as auspiciousness and good fortune. KA Designs is attempting to relate the now negative sign to its origins.

>The company even made a promotional video claiming that the Nazis “took the swastika, rotated it 45 degrees, and turned it into a symbol of hatred, fear, war, racism, power.”

>“They stigmatized the swastika, they won, they limited our freedom, or maybe not?” the video continues. “The swastika is coming back.”

>On some of the tee shirts sold by KA Designs, the swastika remains turned by 45 degrees, similarly to the Nazis’ use of the symbol.

So... How long til we see some of these liberal protesters fighting in the streets whilst donning the swastika?

>So... How long til we see some of these liberal protesters fighting in the streets whilst donning the swastika?

Never.

They don't WANT you to take it back, they don't want to undo the stigma of any of this. Their entire goal is that when a symbol is attached with a stigma they deem offensive, it's outright GONE. This would undermine everything they wanted to do in order to limit how certain words can be used, what symbols are 'allowed', what actions are permitted, and so on. You'll sooner see them rioting to destroy every shirt 'for the sake of peace' than you will any one of them actually trying to let something they hate be anything other than what they've deemed it to be.

But they are insane and contradict themselves frequently... Surely there will be those who would done it... Otherwise this T-shirt wouldn't exit, right?
>>
>>165200
If that's the case fight in tie die and rainbow shirts.
>>
>>165225
kek, maybe that's not such a bad idea....

I don't usually say this, but fpbp.
Get out of here with your logic and reason, you fag

But the swastika was a symbol of peace and good fortune before Hitler took it and made it bad.
Like the cross was a symbol of torture in Romans times.

in actual fact the swaztika was a symbol of luck and prosperity used by ancient south asian cultures before the romans adopted it and then before the nazis used it

>>165198
I mean, far more people were killed under communist regimes than under National Socialism, yet communist symbols have nowhere near the stigma.
>>
>>165245
Just look at the perpetrators and victims of the genocides religious ties were and it should all be clear why their symbols are treated so differently
>>
>>165344
A lot of the same kinds of people died under both communist and fascist regimes, notably in Europe but also elsewhere. Totalitarianism doesn't discriminate much in terms of body count.
>>
>>165232
I agree and most people who learn this stuff would probably come around to those other common associations with the symbol.

But given how much some people suffered under the Nazis, attempting to reintroduce it while people who survived their regime still live and would still find it unpleasant in any context, I can see why it can often be really distasteful if worn with even the best of intentions.

Also, there are invariably going to be neo nazi trolls that wanna wear swastikas just to offend and then claim they meant well. They are going to spoil it for the rest.

>>165245
Well communism in general isn't inherently violent any more than nationalism and socialism but I think it's arguable that soviet symbols like red star and hammer+sickle can be considered similarly offensive, given that the soviet regime did commit war crimes and violate human rights without regard.

Still, that's not an important detail with reference to this story.
>>

A pretty big reason is time. The Soviets existed for far longer, and during that period it was the symbol of a nation, and you can't vilify the symbols of extant nations without causing some issues in diplomacy. For example, it would be sort of hard to broadcast current events involving the Soviet Union if the hammer and sickle was banned, and it would be hard to negotiate with communist nations if you called their symbol the sign of ultimate evil (this would have held true when the Nazis existed as well). There are also communist countries still around who use the symbol, while the Nazis are all dead, relegating their symbol to the history books. This long period of existence also allowed them to better spread their ideology around the world, thus making their symbols less controversial as more people were brought into the fold. Imagine if the Nazis hadn't started WWII and survived as a state, there would probably still be an American Nazi party along with the American Communist party.

I believe another element is that the swastika doesn't have the same sort of "balance" in terms of positive and negative opinions. There are people in Russia who feel nostalgic for the Soviet Union, meanwhile people in former Warsaw Pact states hate the Soviet Union (and hate modern Russia because of it). There are young people who believe in the idealism of communism, while there are old people who actually lived through communism and know it's total shit. Similarly, the Confederate flag has this dynamic: some people view it as a symbol of slavery (or white supremacy, in a negative light), others view it as a symbol of states rights (or white supremacy, this time in a positive light). Nazi symbols have a much stronger negative connotation, since much of Europe suffered under either Nazi occupation or attack. The few who would find Nazism positive are more inclined to back the more general banner of fascism than take on a specific symbol of German fascism.

Apparently the company already changed it so now the shirt has the swastika crossed out.

However they also offer shirts with other nazi/Hitler memes on them which has many Jewish writers still very angry with them.

Here's the strange thing about this story though. The shirts were posted on the make your own T shirt design site TeeSpring (they have pulled down by now) and the designer, KA designs has no website from what I can find in a quick search. There is almost no evidence that this a legitimate business move and not just some prank that was put up online, along with the Hitler meme shorts which are also already taken down. Anyone else have any luck verifying these stories are a legitimate business trying to sell this product?
