Stop making me want a milled rifle.
Last thread drove off a bridge edition.
/thg/ is a thread for discussion about tanks, tracked armor and other armored vehicles. Please keep things civil and cite sources.
The US Medium Tank M2 was an attempt to give Armored Branch something approximating a medium tank after decades of little funding post-WWI. Based on Light Tank M2 and using many of the same components the Medium M2 was accepted in 1939 and was armed with a 37mm gun in a rotating turret and eight .30cal 1919 machine guns, including two fixed guns fired by the driver. A notable feature of the M2 was the use of bullet deflectors installed on the rear fenders of the tank. The idea behind these was that the tank could fire its machineguns into a trench it was crossing by hitting the deflectors. These devices were not installed on any latter tanks. This number of machine guns was excessive for the five man crew.
In December 1940 an improved version of the M2, the M2A1 was accepted into service. The M2A1 featured a new turret with a hatch on the top rather than a door on the rear, an improved gun mount and splash deflectors on the hull front. Armor thickness for both the M2 and the M2A1 was 1.135 inches on the hull. A total of 18 M2 and 94 were accepted into service. Obsolete the moment it came of the production line service the Medium M2 never saw combat, being used exclusively for training purposes within the continental United States and being redesignated as a training machine.
Armored news as per the format:
- A single BMPT has been deployed to Syria, it is a combination of a BMPT hull and BMPT-72 turret.
- Turkey is seeking bidders for its Altay tank program, the estimated value of the program is more than $10 billion.
- France showed off a the VAB replacement in the form of the Griffon multirole troop carrier during its Bastille Day parade.
- India has selected its state-owned Ordnance Factory Board to upgrade 693 BMP-2 IFVs, the value of the contract is $375. Upgrades include
- improved fire control and fitting for improved power packs and more modern ATGMs.

how many guys were supposed to work all those goddamn guns?
>>34620148
Three or four gunners, a driver with his two fixed guns and the commander.

At what altitude does fighters usually operate in particular mission types i.e. CAS, BVR air to air and WVR air to air and reconaissance?
Interested mainly in realtion to ground based anti-air.
>>34619118
>CAS
Low - below 20,000ft
>BVR air to air
That's not a mission type. Its a method of engaging air targets. It could take place at any altitude.
Missions aimed at air-to-air are generally Combat Air Patrols or "CAP". You have things like BARCAP, AmbushCAP, HAVCAP, SARCAP, etc.
Generally CAP missions take place at medium to higher altitude. 10,000 - 30,000ft
>WVR air to air
Again this is an engagement type, not a mission type. a WVR engagement could take place at any altitude.
>reconaissance
Generally medium to high altitude, depending on the power of the aircraft's camera and maximum service ceiling. Ideally recon aircraft fly at very high altitude (40,000ft+) and have an incredibly powerful camera and fly on a clear day.
Generally recon could be conducted anywhere from 10,000ft to 70,000ft. Aircraft that can actually reach 70,000 ft are rare - Only one I can think of is the U-2.
Why do you want to know OP? writing a wargame or something?
>>34621385
>>CAS
>Low - below 20,000ft
Not sine 1991, anon. CAS has shifted from low altitudes and now generally has a minimum altitude of 15kft, as that's the highest altitude MANPADS and AAA can (realistically) hit you at.
>>34621479
15,000ft is still below 20,000ft.

How does /k/ feel about mega city warfare? Do you think it will rely more on clandestine troops? Or will we attempt to use some space marine power armor type shit?
Either way I'm ready for lunar core /fa/.

KEK
megacity warfare is hell
imagine having to clear hundreds of huge metropolis buildings, you don't know where anyone is, buildings can be rigged to explode, there's traps everywhere, robots dropping grenades from vents, etc
i just think heavy head to toe armour, use of grenades and handheld machineguns and possibly ballistic shields would be used. like the guys from jin roh wolf brigade just more modern
>>34619029
Thats what i was thinking
Can anyone give me some good suggestions for a new pair of boots? They would be mainly used for route marching, long range patrolling, hill walking and general ground related shit. Im in Europe so water proofing is a must since alot of the terrain in question is boggy as fuck, and ankle support because boggy hills suck cock. Also they preferably have to be black unfortunately. Thanks in advance /k/. Pic unrelated.

What is the best modern submachine gun and how does the B&T MP9 stack up next to its competitors in an increasingly small niche?
MP5 in 10mm.
>>34618077
The B&T is pretty high up there. I'd say the MP7 and P90 are competitors. MP5 is a meme gun.
