Why?

Friendly reminder that the over-engineered, gigantic, super expensive main battle tanks are completely redundant in modern warfare, due to the vast access to anti-tank weapons that can penetrate any type of armor. Any multi-million dollar tank can be blown up with even a simple RPG.
The only "tanks" that have a place in modern combat are small, super vast, agile, multi-purpose, support, reconnaissance and fighting vehicles such as the Weasel, which can fulfill many roles such as anti-tank, scouting, command, air defense, ambulance, mortar system, and more, for a fraction of the cost for a MBT, excluding the ease of logistics. And of course there's place for armored troop carriers, but that's it. MBTs are completely redundant.

The Weasel is such a great machine, its got the be the most practical vehicle.
>>33917670
The Merkava is one of the best examples of how shit and redundant MBTs are in modern warfare

How much is too much?
Would jeagers be a powerful tool for power projection?Say if the US had Gipsy Danger out of nowhere could it be used to shift interenational policy and be a powerful war machine? How would you react if Jeagers were real?
>>33917295
most men would be too busy living a mech pilot fantasy to fight
>>33917295
No it's a retarded idea. Hell even in the movie the concept was retarded (but cool)
>>33917303
just create a ring of attack submarines around the portal and shoot the fuckers while they are exiting.
the scenario says the jeager is already built out of nowhere.
>he doesn't know about the ultimate cqc weapon
>>33917045
It isn't though.
>>33917045
Polearms are pretty good if you're a brute. I prefer to play as a fast and sneaky rogue. Sometimes I get lucky and find a poisoned short blade so I don't need to waste blowgun darts.
>>33917045
We're fighting inside a home or narrow hallway. What do you do now?
How the hell can they get away with 45,000 psi from a 9mm?
It's like 124 grains at 1500 fps and from a polyshit pistol nonetheless.
But damn do I want this ammo, too bad about the cucked laws regarding AP ammo.
>>33916828
Slav magic
>>33916828
where are you getting these numbers from? show me an uncut video comparing 7Nxx to 9mmNATO on the same chrono
>>33917103
It's an 82gr bullet for the 7n21 and a 65gr bullet for the 7n31 going by Modernfirearms.net's figures. I'm inclined to believe it with a 42kpsi loading.
OP, they get away with it because modern materials science has advanced since the 9mm was invented.
Hey /k/, I know I'm comparing apples and oranges but I'm trying to decide between a CMP M1 or a Smith & Wesson M&P Sport 15 II. Part of me wants the AR for the practicality in a shtf situation and affordability of ammo, but the other half tells me I'll regret not getting an affordable M1 while I have a chance as I live an hour away from Camp Perry. I only have enough money for 1. Let the shitposting begin
Get the m1. We've got 4 years of safe gun prices for in production guns. You can find a decent AR sub 650 dollars every day of the year. The m1 is just going to get pricier as they dry up.
I'm not really a milsurp guy or into historical firearms at all, and I'm also cheap when it comes to ammo, so I'd go with the AR.
M&P Sports have been under $500 recently, which is absolutely amazing. It's a brand new, modern rifle that shoots cheaper ammo and will cost you less money than the Garand.
You really just have to decide if you're into the history enough to drop a ton of money on a classic rifle like that.
>>33916809
Thanks anon, I was thinking the same thing. I went to a gun show last weekend and this bubba wanted $3500 for a fucking rack grade 1945 Springfield. I told myself, "shit's getting out of hand"
/c/k//
So I've been experimenting with making my own MREs (not for long term storage mind you, just stuff I can throw in the car for a few weeks at a time), but I was trying to think of a way to heat them up in lieu of a microwave that doesn't involve buying bulk MRE heaters.
I know they make reusable gel hand warmers, is there anything like a reusable MRE heater?
I was thinking of maybe using pic related. Would that work?
>>33916690
Esbit tablets are cheap and plentiful.
Get a consumer grade stove (or military if you want to be a LARPing faggot) and just do that.
>>33916690
iirc the zippo heaters only get like . . . 120f or so in direct contact with the case and require fluid to refill so I dont see how its superior to anything else.
>>33916690
How does that thing even work?
Has anyone had a chance to check out the Gander Mountain closing sale?
I'd like to pick up a few things if they're well priced, mostly ammo and camping gear,
possibly a Mossberg since I don't have a shotgun yet. Closest one is 2 hours from me though,
so I don't want to waste the trip if everything is 5% off.
>>33916673
No decent sales yet. Guns and ammo go on sale last.
>>33916673

Why don't modern bolt actions use stripper clips?
I mean really why not? that's like half the fun of a bolt action and the other is the bolt action itself.
>>33916509
Because most modern bolt actions have a bridge for mounting scopes over the entire length of the action
>>33916509
Speed really. People like larping as military (/k/s hatred of Leverguns, for example.) and the military liks speed for reloads.
>>33916522
This plus detachable box mags. Even rifles with the classic Mauser action nowadays use box mags, because it makes scoping the rifle so much easier.
Redpill me on chiappa
>>33916346
Apart from their 9mm M1 Carbine clone, I haven't heard much bad. Their leverguns in particular seem to be well-received.

We've heard stories about conscientious objectors being badasses, just look at Desmond Doss. What does /k/ think about normal conscientious objectors? Are they cowards? What does a C.O. have to be respected?
t. anon whose parents are pissed he isn't a C.O.
>>33916261
I'm worried myself to tell my parents I didn't apply for co status, interested to hear /k/'s opinions on this
>>33916261
Conscientious Objectors usually have deep devotional beliefs that prohibit them from taking up arms or even uniformed service. The ones that take uniformed jobs in the military such as medics, stretcher bearers, cameramen, and reporters were generally treated well. The men who refused to accept any form of military or uniformed service were assigned hard labor for a length of time equal to military service. Men who refused all work were imprisoned.
Andy Rooney was a conscientious objector in WWII and accepted a job as a field reporter for Stars and Stripes, it's how he got started in journalism.
