The only real time I came into contact with a staunch antigunner was when I went to a friends house with a toy gun and his mother took it away and broke it because she didn't want anything to do with guns in her house. True enough, definitely wasn't my smartest move. I definitely learned my lesson immediately after that shit went down though. Thankfully I did manage to get on the good side of most of my classmates and professor throughout the semester.

But yeah, I definitely had a similar experience when I was younger, friend's mom wouldn't even let me bring in a god damn squirt gun within 10 ft of her house. I thought it was ridiculous then, even today it still baffles me.

Aguila's been pretty decent for the price with me. Not particularly dirty, good reliability, all that stuff. Obviously not top-dollar boolit, but I'd recommend it.

Tikka's are my personal favorite and are basically the standard for modern day bolt action rifles.
Weatherby are acceptable and quite cheaply available.
Howa is Japanese made and quite good.
Pre-Freedom group Remington (not modern day unless you check the rifle personally and know what issues to look for.
Swiss Schmidt Ruben if you want actually good surplus that can actually hit stuff.
Mossberg is alright
Ruger can be pretty decent but I don't like them.
Mausers are great but surplus rifles are typically innacurate (because of age) and modern day Mausers are really expensive.
It's kind of hard to make a shitty bolt action.
also I fucking hate Mosins and I think they are just a historic novelty moreso than a viable rifle.

Yes, we get it. There are all kinds of one-offs where people have taken gunshots from all kinds of calibers and somehow walked away. Someone once posted a video here from a school shooting of a college girl taking a 12 gauge blast dead center in the chest from maybe three feet away and walking off like it was nothing. These things happen sometimes - they're just freak occurrences where everything goes right (or wrong, depending on your point of view).
